  2. DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! DUAL IN HAND! Can not stress how greatful we are to all that helpped us in this processss...

Now we have a trip to Germany planned in June, does he need his american passort to travel or can we save the expense for now and still travel in and out with his German pass? hmmmm

    Best of luck to all!

US Citizens are legally required to enter and exit the US with a US Passport. So your spouse will need to get a US passport.

  3. Wow yours went by really fast!

It did. But both of my co-workers naturalized last year and theirs went really fast too (although one of them was in the military at the time, so I don't know if that really counts. She naturalized in less that 2 months) so I know that my local office usually works pretty quickly. There was someone else with my local office in the December 2011 thread and they progressed pretty quickly too. Though they haven't come back to update since their Oath Ceremony date.

  4. Still no interview date for me. sad.gif I did get a notice that my case was placed in line for an interview and I assume my fingerprints were waived since I took them less than a year ago for my removal of conditions.. but I am anxiously waiting for the Interview letter! Updating my status for fingerprints.

At least you have been moved onto the next step. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before you and USA82 get your interview letters.

Speaking of getting notices... I just logged into the USCIS website and got this lovely message:

On March 27, 2012, we scheduled you for your oath ceremony and sent a notice providing the date, time, and location. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

:dance:I am hoping it's for the April 22nd Southern California ceremony.

  5. Yes I know, but the idea was she could be here to help during that difficult period immediately after the child is born

I understand that, I'm just saying if you decide to have the baby in the US going on a plane with a baby isn't as stressful as it might seem. I hope your MIL gets approved with a second try, though.

For getting the baby back, I understand you must just take the birth document to the embassy to get the baby's citizenship document.

Oh and our wonderful health care system here, well this year our insurance company introduced a $3950 deductible this year I must pay.

We would have been buying a plane ticket anyway for her mom. Plus she could be with the rest of her family there. Who knows what we will do

The only thing I would ask about this plan is, are you sure you both want to risk you not being present for the birth of your child? Will you be able to be on the birth certificate if you are not there when the baby is born? Because you need to have your name on the birth certificate to get a CBRA. Just remember that unless your wife is scheduled for a c-section, a baby can be born anywhere from 37 weeks (and sometimes if there are complications, quite a bit before that) through to 42 weeks. That's a pretty big window of time to take off work if you intend to be there for the birth.

Just a few things to consider if you hadn't already. But hopefully these will just be back up plans and your MIL will be able to get a tourist visa to visit.

  6. sorry if i misread this but this is the way i understand that statement... the person who only wanted to visit the US is forced in to immigrating at a later date because a tourist visa wasnt granted due to immigrant intent which means that the US ends up with an immigrant that never wanted to be an immigrant???

It is crazy, but yes. Some people from high-fraud countries will never be able to get a tourist visa, due to not having enough evidence to convince the IO that they don't have immigrant intent.

This happened with my co-worker. She is originally from China. Her parents wanted to come and visit her and their grandson in the US and see how they live over here. They were very happy and content with their lives in China and have 2 other adult children and other grandchildren there. They applied many times for tourist visas, but were denied every time.

Eventually my co-worker was able to convince them to try coming over to the US to live and applied for visas for them. They are now greencard holders. Her father is very easy going and doesn't mind living in the US very much, but her mother (much like my co-worker), is more of a social bee and loved being able to walk or get the bus wherever she wanted to go. In California, she can't do that and neither of them feel up to the challenge of driving on US roads since they never even drove much in China and they are older so it would take them a long time to learn the skills and information they would need to pass a driving test. So she is not as happy here and was much more reluctant to come. But they are giving it a shot and know that they can at least go back and visit China once or twice a year, so long as it is not for too long.

OP: I wouldn't give up too easily. Like others have said, at least give it a second shot.

If she is not successful, know that it is not always too bad on a long flight with a young baby. We took our son over to see my family when he was 6 months old, he slept most of the journey to the UK, he was up a fair bit on the return leg, but did well. We went over again when he was 10 months old and that was more of a challenge since he didn't sleep as much then as when he was younger and needed to be entertained more. Also, try and get a bulkhead seat as they usually can attach a travel cot for the baby to be strapped into when sleeping.

    Good luck!

  7. Well we are still side by side with you Miguel.

Same date for: in line, interview scheduled, letter received. And same interview date in Houston, TX. See you April 26...well depending on the time.

Copies and originals? I guess originals of whatever you sent plus anything else that comes to mind (original +photocopy.) They want to see the original with their own eyes, but can then put the photocopy in the file. If there's anything new you want to bring, providing a photocopy will allow you to have your original back.

Congrats on the progress Nich-Nick & Miguel! Another step closer for the January Filers.

I want to change my Filed for status to Naturalization (Approved), but don't want to tempt fate. So I think I will wait until I get my oath letter in hand. I am envious of those of you who had same-day oaths!

  8. For those of you who have recently just passed their interview.

what test questions did they ask you? if you can remember.

I just had my interview yesterday, my IO just handed me the pre-printed sheet of questions and asked me to read and then answer the questions. Even though I got the first 6 correct, she had me read all the way to question 9. Like you, I was worried about learning the questions, but it turned out to be fairly easy. Do you have a smart phone (android or iPhone) or a tablet/iPad? If so, go and download a US Citizenship app. I did that and just went through the questions once a day a few weeks leading up and over the weekend I had my husband read the questions to me every evening. There were one or two that I would was a tiny bit hesitant on because I am terrible at memorising numbers, but I got those all correct too before we even started having my hubby test me each night.

I think at the beginning it looks more intimidating than it is. Judging by your flag, you most likely have English as a first language, so that's half your battle already won there. Don't worry (easier said than done), you'll learn them all just start having a read through of them.

  9. Well we had a little curve ball today thrown at us.....Hey not like we or anyone who has gone through this whole process is surprised by those anymore eh? :)

Anyway back on 2/28/12 we saw online we had been put in line for a interview....SO we assumed we did not need Biometrics because my wife just had them in 12/11.

But today the letter came & we were all exciting thinking interview & Oath but.........It is a paper for biometrics.

Kind of a bummer because we live on an outer island of Hawaii so it is an additional $$ to fly over to Honolulu Oahu for a 5 minute finger printing....again

Third time I think? because the original...2year then the 10 year & now this. I mean do they really think I am sneaking in another person? :)

Ah well nothing to it but to do it I guess. But we will be soooooo happy when we are done once & for all.

Updated my line to show finger prints instead of waived.

    Good Luck to all!

Ugh, I bet that's a pain in the #######, manias (as we would say in the UK ). Sorry you weren't able to skip them and save yourself some $$$. Still another step closer.

  10. Hi everyone! Checking in. Security at the field office were very nice and let us in an hour early. Not that that helped any! I ended up being interviewed an hour after my appointment (this was after I went up and asked if they knew how far behind they were, I think they misplaced my letter since they took my greencard and took several minutes to get back to me). Nothing really every goes smoothly for me and my hubby. We always end up getting missed on appointment lists etc. It seems to be our niche in life.

Anyway, I finally got called for my interview. It was fairly quick. I was asked to swear I'd tell the truth. I did. The Officer checked my greencard and my California ID card and then they went through my form with me. For my writing section I had to write "We pay taxes". Then she had me read my own questions and answer them to cover both the reading and the questions section in one go. I got them all correct, but she let me get to question 9 before she stopped me. Then she told me I passed and that I should receive my oath letter soon, she gave me a form that said I passed and some information about the oath ceremony.

  11. Hey everyone. On the west coast here, so it will still be a few hours before I leave, let alone before I start the interview. Glad that we already have one success under our belt for today. I will probably be the last to report in after my interview. But I will stop by and let you know how it went.

Congrats, Pandawars! And best of luck Rodgieslove!

  12. Check our "Direct Consular filing." You marry in the UK, then because you are a citizen there as well, you file through the consulate and go fast fast zoom for a spousal visa (a CR1, not a K3). Good luck.

I agree. I don't know DCF very well, but it sounds like the best fit for you guys. But you will need to be married in order to do it. Here's the DCF guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/dcf Check it out and ask some questions in the Direct Consular Filing forum, I think you can call the US Embassy in London too and they will advise you as to whether you qualify (I think you should once you are married) and will let you know what documents they require.

  13. :D Well if it is any consolation, we haven't actually received anything yet. Our notice at the USCIS website changed to that message that everyone is getting, but apparently it just means that you are "in line" and who knows how long it will be until an interview is scheduled. Nothing in our mailbox yet.

I wonder if that message changes once you are actually *scheduled*?

We still may be at the same oath ceremony - especially since they only happen every ~ 3 weeks! On another note, I was reading some reviews of the ceremony @ the Paramount Theater. Every review I read said there were ~1100 people from 100+ countries. Fun!

Once you are scheduled the message does change. It tells you your interview has been scheduled and that you will receive your letter in the mail soon. Call if you don't get it in 14 days (I think).

  14. Y'all crack me up! Know what... we should throw a virtual celebration when all this is over and maybe send USCIS some flowers or something!!! :D Y'all remember the ROC journey? Man, I'd never been stressed in my life like that time! lol

I don't recall being too nervous or stressed about ROC, but I was glad to get my 10 year GC in hand and know that I didn't have to deal with the USCIS for 10 more years if I didn't want to (man, how tempting...!). Finally decided this January that I was ready to hop back on the USCIS train for one final journey, so to speak :P. To continue the bad analogy, hopefully within a few months I will never have to travel USCIS Rail again.

  15. I would play it safe and wait another month. I understand you want this processed as fast as possible, but if they deny your application, you will lose both money and time.

I agree. If you go submit early and get denied because of it (there was someone here who was recently). Then surely you will be delaying getting your husband over by yet another 5-6 months. While it must be horrible to be living apart, surely one month is a small sacrifice to make to ensure you don't get denied and have to add half a year more to your wait to have your hubby by your side Stateside. Just my 2 cents.
