We were given 221 g after interview we don't know the reasons of denial

Ask them the reason through email. And yes your dad can also apply for you. But knowing the reason is important, so if there is something wrong on your side, you can correct it before reapplying.

Applied for Passport & card today December 22nd, through post office in NYC. Didn't do the expedite service. Lets see how long it takes. Btw I was impressed by the 8th ave midtown Manhattan post office, it took only 15 minutes for the whole process.

Got my Passport and Naturalization Certificate in the mail today. Don't know when the passport card will arrive. I don't know I got lucky or what, the entire process was too quick and I did not even use expedite service. Its not even a month from my oath ceremony. It was printed in Arkansas. I'm glad I didn't pay for the expedite service, it was done even before 4 weeks.

    Oath ceremony: Dec 18th

    Routine Service:

Applied: Dec 22nd (NYC post office)

    Received: Jan 6th

    Approval & shipped: Jan 12th

    Expected arrival: Jan 19th

    Actual arrival: Jan 15th

Hi everyone, I applied for my passport in NYC expedited on Dec 23rd. Don't see a case found on the state department website. Actually I don't even think there is a tracking number telling me whether it was delivered or not.

Based on what I read here it seems that it may take a few weeks for them to even receive and update the system.

Has anyone else applied towards the end of December ?

Hi, I think that's pretty normal given the current passport operations. I also applied from NYC on Dec 22nd, routine service and my case showed up on 6th Jan in the system. It got approved yesterday Jan 12th. Status says, it is being printed and I should expect it to be delivered by Jan 19th.

You can't force an airline to let a person with an expired green card fly.  They are within their rights to refuse to fly him.

Whatever US laws are, they do not apply in other countries.

OP needs to get the proper documents to satisfy the airline he wants to fly with.  Getting help obtaining those documents is the right path.  Fighting the airlines to force them to fly him is a losing battle.

Yeah I think fighting was a wrong choice of word, convincing is the right word. It is at the desecration of the airline crew to let someone board, but if you present your case and satisfy them, I think exceptions can be made. Now its up to the airline how they look to resolve your case, weather it involves contacting the US authorities, making passenger purchasing a return flight or whatever.

  5. Oh you gotta be perpare to fight this.

    Steps you can take.

You can still come to the US with an expired Green Card, given it was issued for 10 years, and your stay in Pakistan was less than a year.

But the airlines are  being a #######. You can refer to the CBP guide for carriers, in that guide o page 22 it says "A Lawful Permanent Resident may travel to the United States without a passport with a Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551). Cards with expired I-551s may be boarded
without penalty if the card was issued with a 10-year expiration date.
    "

While you are fighting with the airlines, I would say you better start the green card renewal process. Its online, you can do it from Pakistan too. In case you can not convince the airlines or your foil is delayed or in any worst case, you can use get your renewed green card to Karachi, aslo USCIS is not asking people to do fingerprints for renewals due to covid, they are using the old ones in their system.

Another option, which I just think of, may work or may not. Get to Abu Dhabi, from there book a flight to US, the difference Abu Dhabi will make is that CBP has a pre-clearance facility there, if the airline don't let you board, you can ask them to take them to CBP, airline won't be able to bullshit with CBP and CBP will decide your fate right over there. If you take Etihad airlines, people coming to US are stamped in Abu Dhabi.

According to you, consulate in Karachi told you to file a FOIL, however, it is not required. According to US embassy in Islamabad, their website says you can present an expired Permanent Resident Card with a 10-year expiration date at the airport rather than applying for a boarding foil.

I'm just a student, not a lawyer, but I think this is a fightable case without the need of a lawyer. Please share how this goes. I hope you can pull this off.

Did you request name change at the interview ? And sign two papers about request name change at the interview?

No I did not request a name change. Nor I signed any papers. The only thing I signed was on the computer, were to confirm my details.

Did you request a name change, or are they just taking long to schedule an oath ceremony for you?

Congrats! Did you request name change?

I was temped to do it, but I declined. My first name is a religious name, but no one call me by my first name at home, my given name is my middle name. I still ask my parents, if you gave me a religious first name, why don't you call me by that name. And here in the U.S. my original name is lost somewhere. I wanted to bring my first name into middle and middle name as first name. I don't know if I'll ever make that change, I will feel a little guilt about it though, if I ever did change it.

  8. Hi folks,

So I did my interview yesterday, nasty weather but the interview was sweet. Interview was at 2:15 pm, I got in to the building around 1:55,  went to the 9th fl, they sent me to 4th fl to the wrong room. Then people at the wrong room sent me to the correct room. I was called in within 5 minutes. The officer who interviewed me was the same guy who interviewed my mom last year in December. Last year, I went in as a translator for my mom and officer and I had a good chat about my study plans, career, and some scholarships, and he also told me about his college and his career.

I was obviously wearing a mask, so he couldn't recognize me, then I told him I have met him before, gave some details about the previous encounter, then he recalled it. The interview took place in such a friendly way, I never felt like I was being interviewed. We were discussing how the world is such a small place that we met again, he asked me how my parents were doing, my education plans, he also said that I should consider joining USCIS after school.

He asked me 6 civics questions, and standard yes/no questions that are listed at the end of N-400 application. Besides that, no questions at all. Nothing about employment, taxes. I didn't even took taxes or any documents with me except my green card and evidence of Selective service, we he said he already know about, and I don't need to show it to him. After that, he said you are all good and told me he has approved my application, then gave me outcome the interview on paper. He said, you'll be scheduled for oath in the same building(federal plaza). Then we said good bye to each other, and hoped we'll meet again at the oath ceremony. It only took me 30-35 minutes in the building. Yesterday my status showing was waiting for oath ceremony and today it changed to oath ceremony notice was mailed, I think it'll take some time for the letter to show up in the docs tab.

I hope y 'all get the same friendly treatment as I got, and hope you get your interviews and oaths soon.

  9. So, I just randomly checked my N400 status, and saw I've been scheduled for interview. Finally!

The interview letter hasn't showed up yet in the docs tab. I don't think I'll be able to register to vote in time. 😥

Are they doing same day oaths in NYC? I'll request them in advance anyway. I have a somewhat valid reason, I'm an undergrad cybersecurity major and qualify for many national security program scholarships. I went to the USCIS NYC office last year (Dec) with my mom, it was her interview, the officer was so nice, he told me what was was happening with my N400 at the moment, then gave me career advices.

Case accepted Oct 8th 2019, Queens NY office.

  10. Applied N400 in Sep 2019, case got accepted on Oct 8th 2019(paper based). Case completion date passed in early August 2020, but same lame message " we are taking longer..." I sent a message to USCIS that if they can tell me when should I at least expect to be interviewed. Cause, I'm an undergrad student in senior year and I have to go for a study abroad for my final semester. I don't want to miss this opportunity of studying abroad and want to graduate on time. They replied, "Your application information has been entered into the system which schedules applicants for interviews at their local Field Office." And said they are waiting for a slot to be available for my interview. I don't know how truthful they are at this point or if this is a standard reply. Btw, I got this reply on Aug 30th.

  11. My estimated wait time is 3 months, case completion is August. before it was June then July, now August. Case submitted date is 8th October 2019. Never really bothered to apply for citizenship, now need it for a scholarship. My dad was angry that I didn't apply on time. My time was due in November 2018. I hope it gets done before September. Status hasn't changed from Actively reviewed... since Oct 28th.

    I'm from Queens though.

  12. So sad to see people are still stuck in this damn 221g, guys don’t lose hope, Inshallah, you will get out of it. I’ve been there and know how it feels, I remember, this was the most hot topic in 2013, the threads were so long, that they created additional ones just for Islamabad’s 221gs. I was just randomly checking this website after 6 years.
