  1. Hello my VJ friends!

So, i am hoping someone out there can help with my question... sorry if it is a repeat, I promise i did look through recent posts first!

I plan on speaking with a tax professional about this as well (as i know that the deadline is coming up), but do i need to report my income in Canada as well as in the USA? I know that as a CR-1 visa holder, I need to report my global income to the IRS. My visa took 16 months to process, so I wasn't prepared to move the second that it was issues, so I maintained working in Canada, commuting back and forth. I was not out of the US for over 330 days in a 12 month period.

Just super confused if i should speak with my bookkeeper in Canada, or my tax specialist in the USA.

Any assitance would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

  2. I am sorry that this may not be what you want to hear, but our case was a the NVC from June 18- Mar 31. I have piles of letters telling me that our case is still under review and that we can expect to hear something in "60 days"... i called all the time and was told that 60 days was the standard, but that "weather, holidays etc" were causing slow downs. It's the same logic as when you call and are told "the next representative will be with you in 20 minutes" and then youre on the phone for over an hour.

In terms of what can you do...nothing but wait. Make sure you have things in order for your interiew...start packing things you wont need until you move...play hungry hungry hippos....

I hope that you're case goes quicker than ours did!

    good luck

  3. I have my interview coming up this coming tuesday, I was wondering if anyone who went to the montreal consulate (for ir-1/cr-1 visa) had to pay any extra fees? I know they have to fingerprint, does that cost around 90 dollars?

edit: also, is it cash only?

My interview is next week! Wee so exciting!

My understanding is that for CR1/IR visas, the fees were already paid for throughout the I-130/ IV process. I have heard that there is a photocopying fee if you need to make a copy of a document (something like $1/page! Make sure you have all the copies you need before you get there!) But otherwise, my undersanding is that you shouldn't have to make a payment at the consulate.

Please correct me if i am wrong!

    Good luck!!

  4. It would depend on how it was coded on the Visa letter. Mine reads "F"- "THE NVC did not request this form or document" so for me, it is not required that I bring a photocopy or the original.

    However, if it was code:

"J" then "the NVC only recieved a photocopy of this document. You must present the original document at the time of the interview"

"S" then "The NVC only received a scanned document. You must present the original document at the time of the interview"

"+" then "The NVC returned this document to you per your request. Present this document at your interview"

Just make sure you read your letter carefully! :)

I've seen some people mention that they were asked for the US citizen's birth certificate. Do you guys think it's necessary to have an original or a copy will do?

  5. Hi Terri,

After reading some of the other topic you have started here, to learn a little bit more about your fiancee and your situation, I will offer you my two cents.

Take immigration out of the picture for a moment- this is someone who you are going to marry. Marry- as in promise to spend your life with. Someone who is going to be with you throughout all the good and bad times, someone who you are supposed to trust more than anyone in the world- someone who is not supposed to lie to you, or hide things from you.

No one here knows about your relationship more than you do, and yes it is normal to have cold feet about marriage- but the feeling are more based on "what ifs"... "what if we discover that we can't live together without driving each other crazy?" "what if we have to move for work" "what if...". However, your concerns seem to be more based on concerns about HIM as a person, not the two of you as a couple- "what else hasnt he told me?" "How could he not have told me about his neice?" "what about our religious differences?" etc. As already said- trust your instincts. It sounds like maybe the two of you need to spend some more time together before you decide to commit your lives together. Is there a way for you two to share a meal with your families? I understand you may not be able to stay in the same hotel room, but surely there are other ways to be able to look at your fiancee's eyes other than through skype or photographs.

You deserve to be happy- and I don't think you will be until you are able to put some of these fears and concerns to rest. I understand that you are egar to get to your "happily ever after" but you have to go through the rest of the story first. Would you have agreed to marry him if he lived down the street? or would you think it was too soon and just want to date? Has he been dishonest with you in the past? Do you trust him? Do you know about his past? (Remember, there is a 5 year old child that is clearly important to him- and he didnt tell you...? What else hasnt he told you? will you be OK having her in your life?)
It is easy to get swept up in romance and fairy tale love, but dont let it blind you and have someone take advantage of you.

Take some time- talk with your fiancee, your sister, your parents, friends... your feelings are vaid, and you shouldnt rush into something you are 100% ready for!

    Good luck

  6. I didn't see the Loomis confirmation page amongst your list.

And, double-check that your police certificate is less than a year old (just in case your "visa journey" has been a marathon)!

Good luck at the interview, and congrats!

Good catch- thankfully i have it printed off, just forgot to include it on my list here!

Lol it has absolutely been a marathon, but thankfully the police cert is from last July, so it's still good! :)!!

  7. Hello VJ friends!

I recieved my interview notice a few days ago- my interview is only 11 days away! Not a whole lot of time to prepare! I am so nervous that i have forgotten something, so if anyone is able to give some feedback, I would really appreciate it!

As per the list in my Interview letter I need to bring:

    - The interview letter itself

    -My Passport (+Photocopy)

    -My Birth certificate (+ Photocopy)

    -Marriage Certificate (+ Photocopy)

-Financial Evidence (Hubby's request for tax entension + last years tax return, + bank account statements)

    -2' x2" passport photos (x2)

    -Medical exam results

As per the MTL packet 4 for Immigrant Visas (What is not included above)

    -Confirmation page from DS-260

    -Police certificate (+ photocopy)

    -Financial Evidence I-864

    - Copy of US petitioner's status in the USA (Photocopy of hubby's passport and Drivers License)

-Copy of documents providing petitioner's US domicile ( I am confused about this... hubby lives in the USA-always has, and when we filled out our peition we indiciated as such... will proving his passport photocopy be enough?)

Sorry for the long post... I am a so afraid that we have overlooked something! I really apprecite any advice!

  8. Hi! We got our interview date yesterday....for May 8!! We never received a packet 3 email. Do we have to fill out the DS-260 or do any of the packet 3 process?

Also, how do we register for DHL? All of the information I find on this site is from 2011.

    Thanks!

I am confused on this as well. We got the interview package, with instructions to review packet 4 online...and in packet 4 there is a section taking about packet 3. Now, it does say: "FOR CASES PROCESSED AT NVC PLEASE FOLLOW NVC’S INSTRUCTIONS" therefore, i am going to assume that i dont need to do this section.

    Is that correct?

  9. I am in a similar situation.. Interview date was revealed yesterday- May 6th!

I have my medical scheduled for this coming Monday, and am just organizing the documents we need.

I am having trouble reigstering my interview.. it keeps telling me that my case number is not ready to be scheudled... sooo im just going to keep trying until it is! haha

Random question: I have some passport photos that were taken in September- they are stamped as such. It is now 7 months later, but theses photos still look like me... do I need to get new ones done?

  10. HELP PLEASE!!!!

Nvc just booked my interview for Montreal yestaurday, they put my son and I for MAY 6th 2015!!!! I'm soooo excited BUT there are no available appointments for any medical..... I called everyone in Toronto and Montreal! What do I do? How could NVC schedule us on such short notice and we can't even get a medical done? Everyone is fully booked, what can I do...please help...

My interview is May 6th as well! I was able to get a medical with Dr. Lyndon Mascarenhas (scheduled yesterday)- they prefer email communication, and got back with me withing 30 minutes (i spoke with them late yesterday afternoon.. around 4) you can reach them at visadoctor.com. Not sure if you already tried him, but it may be worth emailing!

Good luck- hopefully see you in Montreal on the 6th!

  11. Bring the tax transcripts to interview you will be fine. If transcript not available than bring what you submitted to IRS. ALL of it.

They are just asking you what you copied to them bring that original to interview.

By the way Congratulations on the Interview date. Have some Canadians on the Interview thread waiting. When did you find out the interview date? I have added you to the spreadsheet. Come on over to the Interview thread.

Thank you for your reply and congratulations! :)

We found out yesterday afternoon... interview is now less than 2 weeks away!

  12. Yay!! Hubby and I finally have our interview date!!

Now, here comes the questions haha!

In our letter from the NVC, there is a list of documents, each with a Alphabetic code beside them corelating to a key on another page.

This is all pretty straightforward, except for one:

Document name: F- Financial Evidence Document Status: S- The NVC only recieved a scanned document. You must present the original document at the time of the interview.

What exactly do they want to see? My American husbands tax records from 2013? (2014 docs not yet available, likely wont be before the interview) my bank account statements? I believe that was all we submitted electronically... Any insite or tips would be most appreciated!!!

  13. I think some countries require a drug test, Canada would only require one if you use, medicinally or otherwise.

ohhh ok... I hadn't considered that, or thought to look at what country the poster was from! D'oh!

  14. Thanks!

Ugh i would love to know what happened!

We recieved a request for a freaking pay stub on Dec 19 of last year (even though we had already submitted it... we had some issues when we submitted everything electronically so I am not sure if it ever made it to the NVC or if it was just over looked). Anyways, we responded to the request the same day. I called frequently to the NVC after that and were told that it had been recieved and that it was waiting to be processed. Then, a few weeks ago we got another letter saying that our documents had been received on Feb 10...even though we hadnt submitted any documents since December, and we already had our confoirmation that they had been recieved. At this point, I'm freaking out because I'm wondering if someone elses files are attached to ours... 5 phone calls and 3 conversations with supervisors later we were told it was "being looked into." My husband was going to call on Monday to follow up but got tied up at work and wasn't able to call when a supervisor was there. He was going to call yeserday but we got our letter at 730 am!

So... as far as i know that's what happend!

Congrats! That's great news! Your timeline shows that you sent in your documents a long time ago can I ask what happened?? Also what was your last scan date and did you file electronically?

    CC for me today!

Wondering if you have any insight into how far in advance MTL interviews are being scheduled these days? 8 weeks?

    Congratulations!!

I would also like to know the answer to this.. :)
