  1. Wait until you get the EAD or GC and then change the name on your SSN.

They can do it without it, but many of them don't know how and send off for verification.

Just use your maiden name SSN until them. The number will be the same. Good luck.

    Thank You so much Harpa!

  2. Hey everyone... So I got my social security number with my maiden name right when I first came in, in order to be added to my husbands insurance, we got everything else taken care of so my married name is in everything... Now the problem is I tried to get a new SS card with my married name and I haven't heard back from them, I went down twice... I can't get any other form of ID because I need my EAD card... Is this the case with the SSN?

  3. We got ours today too!! We are going to try and do a walk-in as well. I read online that our local office (Austin, Texas) accepts walk-ins. We are also still on acceptance and signed up for email and text notifications if there is a change in our status.

Congratulations to everyone!! I am glad to see we are all moving forward.... slowly but surely :)

In order to visit this office or to speak with an Immigration Services Officer, we recommend you schedule an INFOPASS appointment on the USCIS website. Persons without appointments will be served between INFOPASS appointments.

Does this mean they accept walk ins???^^^^

  4. You will need a valid ID.

Go and get an ID at the dmv with your noa from your aos. you should have an id in a week then.

I tried to get an ID but since I got a Social security card with my maiden name they told me they could only make an id with my previous name, except my credit cards have my married name but that social security hasn't arrived... And it's been more than a month... What would I need to get an ID with my married Name

  5. Good to have a heads up on this. We sent in our AOS packet and it was received on May 21. Still no acknowledgement though, no NOA, no cashed check, etc. Blah. 12 working days and counting.... Growing anxious but this rested my mind slightly if there is a workload issue happening.

Our package was sent on May 14th, USPS said it got there on the 16th and just yesterday we got the three emails and text messages!!

Our package was also forwarded to Nebraska

  6. Hi,

I recently submitted my I-485 following my marriage in May on a K1 visa and the USCIS Case Status page now states:

"Your case is being processed at our NEBRASKA SERVICE CENTER location. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you."

My understanding was that only Employment based I-485s or those relating to refugee status or those seeking asylum would be processed by Nebraska. My husband is active duty military, could this be a reason why it has been transferred to a place other than our local office? Also because it states 'you will be notified by mail when a decision is made' does this mean I will not have to attend an interview? I'm aware I would still have to attend a biometrics appointment and this seems to be proceeding off the back of the I-765 submission I made at the same time.

Anyone else experienced this scenario? I've never heard of this happening before so would appreciate any thoughts!

    Thanks! :)

Mine got sent there too, I came online to find some answers since my husband isn't in the military!!

  7. I never recieved anything through the mail, or email. We had to call the service center non stop and then they sent us an email.. So don't bother changing the physical address just press for them to send you the letter and other documents through EMAIL, if it says it's ready just check your junk folder in your email, if nothing is there keep pushing on the service center

  8. So I went to the social security office today to change my last name to my husbands and the lady asked me to check that everything was correct in a piece of paper before she had the new one submitted. So I noticed there was a space that said legal alien authorized to work and I told her since I entered the US with a k1 visa I wasn't allowed to and she said that I was all cleared for work, and that's what it showed on the computer and everything that I was already authorized. The social security card I got says: VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION, which is what it should say but the lady said I was authorized, I don't know what to do, is there anywhere I can request information?

  9. So thank God I arrived march 31 to buffalo to be with my fiance! I'm very blessed to count with a car to go out and do things on my own. However I do feel a little insecure if the police stopped me, I'm in the state of NY and have a valid drivers license from Guatemala which I wanted to use until after I get married, get my social security number and file for a license from here. If the police stopped me would I be ok showing them a copy of my passport, my k-1 visa, and the I-91? What's everyone's recommendation regarding this! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

  10. Thanks for the help you have been to me as well :) I hope to share the same good news in a couple or few months too.

What questions does the Consular ask during the interview besides asking for the documents listed on the checklist? Since you know about our situation, do you think it would be best if I attended the interview with my fiancé. Does the Consular make a big deal about the petitioner not being there? Others have told me that it is not required.

They didn't ask me specifically for any additional paperwork even though I had plenty of extra paperwork just in case. The consul asked me when we met, when we started the relationship, when was the last time I went to visit him and something about my fingerprints since I had a little bit of a problem with them. I saw two other k-1 petitioners there that day both alone without their fiancé, I went by myself too and they never asked a question about that (but he did travel recently to Guatemala for the holidays so maybe they saw that) I didn't hear the other interviews but it depends what they see in your file to question you about specific things! So I can't tell you what they will ask, but the consul was really nice overall everyone was super nice! Any other questions you have don't worry I'll answer them!

  11. Thank you and yes today we will be going over all of the forms and all of the potential questions. I have read many reviews on here yesterday regarding Kiev Embassy and see that most people get nice officers. I also noticed a few people get "that one guy" so have to be prepared and hope he wont be there tomm

Good luck! Hopefully you will hear those five magic words to be together with your fiancée! Your visa has been approved! Keep us posted!!

  12. Congrats. The journey is not end yet. But, you will be with your loved one when started the next step!

I know it's not close to being over, but at least I won't have to face this exhausting process alone! I don't care what I face as long as I have him there with me every step of the way!

Congratulations! It's reassuring to hear how fast you've got yours :)

Thank you! And yes this process was somewhat quick for us! I don't know if it was based on preparation or just plain luck! We would have been done faster if it weren't for the fact that we had to wait two months for the interview!!!
  13. Hey vlad! Don't worry!! That means it's incomplete because she didn't get all the vaccines in the chart but I'm guessing she isn't old enough to get all of them which is why she qualifies for a waiver!

    Don't worry, relax, I know it's a

**stressful process but as long as she doesn't have anything to hide and is prepared and informed with the paperwork it should all be good!
