    I became a US citizen today! I'm not sure if maybe the format of the table got a bit messed up above so I wasn't sure which one to update with this info...?

    Ceremony was great. Arrived at 11.45am for 12.30pm ceremony.

    Family and friends went through to be seated, then we all lined up 10 at a time to go through to the room, hand over green cards and be seated.

    Ceremony started around 1.30pm (there was a delay because a few folks had issues such as having lost Green Cards since the interview [the guy in question was still naturalised, so if this is a worry for you, take heart!])

    The first USCIS representative got up, warmed up the crowd with some "USA" chants and went over the contents of our packets ("your voter registration form is the most important thing here! It is your right AND responsibility to vote!")

    The judge then rose, we sang the national anthem and then she said a few words. We watched a video about America being a "land of immigrants." The judge said a few more things about what an important occasion it was etc. We each stood as our nationality was called and then said the oath together. We pledged allegiance to the flag. We watched T's welcome video...and this Lee Greenwood "God Bless the USA" video complete with shots of America and cowboys riding into the sunset etc (and the lyrics, so you could sing along if you wanted...!)

    Then finally we lined up and were called forward to receive our naturalisation certificates...and it was all over.

     

    Surreal to be at the end of this journey. I sincerely hope the rest of you reach this point very soon.

    Hi everyone, just checking in after my interview in Baltimore this morning. All went fine and I was "recommended for approval."

    After the initial stuff, we went over my application. We made a couple of amendments where I had made mistakes on the original N400, such as saying I had been married twice by accident (note to anyone else in this position: don't panic, like I did last night! You can fix it at the interview!). The officer changed this without any problem. The officer was also not concerned that I could not find my expired UK passports (which you are technically required to bring). She just asked me about my travel, and any foreign travel that had occurred since I submitted the application. Finally I informed her that our outstanding taxes (from 2014, when my husband failed to pay everything he should have done for a contracting job) have finally been paid off and she copied the transcript that showed that.

     

    I can't remember all the questions I was asked, but it definitely included these 3:

    1. How many justices are there on the supreme court?

    2. If the President and Vice President can not serve, who becomes President?

    3. What did the Declaration of Independence do?

     

    I was asked to read the sentence "What country is to the south of the United States?"

    The office gave the answer and I was then asked to write "Mexico is to the south of the United States."

     

    She smiled and said I had passed. Sadly no oath ceremony today, but it was nice to see the large, smartly dressed groups of families all gathered for their ceremony. We now wait for the notice on the oath. The officer advised that it would be "a few weeks."

     

    ps. I found the video on the USCIS website that provides an example of the naturalisation interview to be helpful as I prepped yesterday. It meant that no part of today was a surprise.     Just updated the list with my interview date (Baltimore) of June 13th. [I hope I copied it right this time] Interview is at 9am... does anyone have any idea if there is any chance of getting a same-day Oath at Baltimore. I've scoured a few forums and it does seems to have happened in a few cases but no indication of likelihood (I'm assuming its just a total lottery...?)

    I know this is only one example and perhaps not directly relevant, but it leads me to believe the Submitted Date may be meaningless, at least for our purposes.

    Thanks @dwarrell and thanks @Hypnos for checking. I find myself trying to squeeze any information I can out of USCIS and when new things like "submitted date" pop up I get excited! Do keep us posted if anything turns up...

    Was it Senator Boxer or Feinstein? One of them was a SUPER STAR in obtaining the e-mails between USCIS officials a few months back (through an FOIA request). You're very fortunate to live where you do! My Senators and Representative are totally useless.

    It was Boxer's office. Feinstein never even responded to my initial outreach. And, yes, I did feel fortunate that I had a couple prominent senators and Nancy Pelosi as my congresswoman.

    Just a note that expediting a case through NVC and requesting a different interview date from the embassy aren't the same thing. You don't have to meet any criteria to ask for an earlier interview, and London in particular has been very good about granting those requests. It may not have had anything to do with your senator, but I'm glad you got the earlier date. Congrats!

    Yeah. It may have just been the fact that I was out of the NVC that made things easier. That said, my senator's letter included the actual correspondence back from the embassy that said that they would reschedule our interview based on the case brought forward by my senator. Not sure if it's entirely true, but it feels nice to think so.

    Just wanted to share a bit of information, even though we're no longer in the NVC process...


    When we were working to get our interview expedited, I had reached out to my congresswomen (both senators and my congresswoman). I got no direct response back from the senators, but was working with my congresswoman's staff to try to get the date changed. I spent a few weeks communicating with the immigration specialist in my congresswoman's office to put together an expedite request. Despite this, the expedite was denied, so we had to wait for the NVC to finish their paper shuffling and got a late-September date.


    With the embassy now in possession of our application, I sent yet another request to move our interview date. To our surprise, it was granted (even though our circumstance wasn't much changed). While baffled, we took it to be just a sign of how entirely arbitrary expediting can be.


    Then, just this week, I get an official letter from one of my senators indicating that they had reached out to the embassy to expedite our case, and the response was the change in interview date that we were granted. So, we find it is clearly effective to get in touch with a senator. While it took longer to get a response, I only had to send one letter to my senator (privacy release form and explanation of my request), the senator's office seemingly had more impact.


    It all still seems like a mystery how it all works, but I thought I'd let everyone know about our experience trying to expedite our process.

    September 2014 Interviews

    The US Embassy in London has moved our interview date up to September 9 (from September 29). While this comes as a surprise, it's a relief that this will be all done sooner, rather than later.

    The full timeline is:

    - 19 August: Made request to Embassy in London for sooner interview date

    - 26 August: Received email indicating request granted and new interview date of 9 September at 8am

    We hope everyone else continues to have good interview and POE experiences. Will keep everyone updated on how everything goes.

    When the NVC receives a packet, it may not be immediately opened and acknowledged. I suspect the "scan date" refers to when they open the packet and scan the barcode to acknowledge what packet they have received. The "scan date" is the last date that the NVC officially acknowledged the last bit of mail (my updated AOS, in this case) that I sent. That was the date I was quoted as having to wait "30 business days" from. My 60-calendar-day wait date was on June 25 (the last date they actually received mail from). I got case complete before the 30-business-day wait and the 60-calendar-day wait were complete.

    Others may be able to explain it better, but that's my general understanding of the "scan date".

    Just received email with interview instructions today! It is remarkable how much difference comes of simply having certainty about when this process will proceed forward. We got an interview date of 29 September at 8:30AM at the London Embassy.

    A quick recap:

    • Last scan date: 1 July
    • Case Complete: 8 August
    • Interview Letter: 14 August
    • Interview Date: 29 September @ 0830

    As an aside, we are very grateful to everyone in the VisaJourney community that has shared their experiences, offered support, and provided invaluable information throughout this process. We wouldn't have made it without you all. And, forever thanks to Saylin and Bdrew, who provided essential information and support. Will keep everyone posted on what comes next.

    Congratulations, what great news! Do you have a lawyer? I´m trying to figure out if the checklist documents are all in a fast track for review or if it´s just for people who have lawyers.

    Have you submitted an expedite request for your pregnancy? I know they usually ask for medical emergencies, but a supervisor told me that it´s up to the individual embassy, so it might be worth a shot.

    We do not have a lawyer. I've been doing this process with the assistance of Saylin's amazing wiki and lots of help and support from the VJ community.

    Is writing "N/A" absolutely necessary? The instructions do say to leave it blank... I hope the fact that I left blanks doesn't end up in a checklist...

    Unfortunately, the instructions are not accurate for what the NVC expects. From what I've read, the instructions are for submitting to a different agency. The NVC doesn't actually have correct instructions, and a number of people have been getting checklists for this because the instructions are explicitly misleading.

    How long does it took to get the email from NVC?

    Yesterday i got my NVC case number and invoice number but it is showing invalid??

    Hello there!

    And thanks :) I called and got my case number on April 17, so yes it wasn't that long ago. Similar to you, I ran into the same issue trying to use the number on the ceac.state.gov site. Today, I got 2 emails from the NVC. One with instructions to fill out the DS-261 (Online Choice of Address and Agent Form). The other was to pay my AOS fee, but that fee (along with the IV) fee cannot be paid until they approve the DS-261 (from what I can tell). One thing I want to mention here (as I did in the Facebook group for Sept. 2103 Filers) is that the "Primary Applicant" refers to the Beneficiary. I filled out the form and indicated myself as the preparer (which will be a question that comes up at the very end of the process, when it is essentially asking for the Beneficiary's e-signature stating that all the information in the form is true).

    So the short answer for you is that I recommend you wait for the email from the NVC. Also, as has already been mentioned by others, have a good read through of Saylin's excellent NVC process wiki.

    I'll be posting further updates as I receive them.

    Just got my email from the NVC essentially informing me that I can pay my AOS fee, to get the NVC process rolling. It's especially nice, as it came through just as I was saying goodnight to my wife.

    I hope more folks that are in the NVC process are getting the same notice (or already got it).

    Update: I just got another email that seems to be specific to paying the AOS fee. The first email just provided my NVC case number, Invoice ID Number, and Beneficiary ID Number.
