  2. Hey everyone,

My interview/citizenship test is next week in Dallas! Is there anyone who has had a recent interview there and can share your experience? Also will the oath ceremony be on the same day?

    Hi Collie,

My interview is next week too in Dallas. My appointment is Tuesday at 6:30 AM. My husband and I are hoping that there will be an oath taking same day as my interview. What day is your interview and what time?

Good luck on your interview!:thumbs:

Wow, 6.30 AM is early! Good luck!:star:

  3. Well, my passport itself still hasn't arrived. I just talked with customer service and apparently, it was mailed already on the 18th of September. I sure hope that they haven't lost the actual passport in the mail! All the tracking number says is it that they were notified for it to be picked up, no updates since - but then the tracking number for the passport card says the same thing and it has already arrived on the date they said it would - the 23rd.

    Hope it comes soon!

    *Groan*

This is the message on the USPS site when we enter the tracking number for my husband's passport:

Your item was forwarded to a different address on September 24, 2009 in BAYSIDE, NY 11361. This was because of forwarding instructions or because the address or ZIP Code on the label was incorrect.

We don't live in Bayside, NY. We haven't moved or asked our mail to be forwarded. So either the USPS messed up the tracking or the passport agency sent it to the wrong address. And I don't even want to think about the Naturalization Certificate, which hasn't arrived yet and which isn't even trackable.

Hubby called the Passport Call Center and they said they have the right address on file so hopefully it will arrive soon... Hopefully we'll have better luck than I did with my still-missing-in-action old passport.

    *Gulp*

ugh....I really hope everything is found and delivered safely to you. :star:

  4. Finally some good news from me. I checked with infopass and found my case was approved yesterday and oath date being ordered but not set yet. It is a big relief... :P Now I only need to wait for them to schedule the date for me.

    Cheers for kiki!!

    Great news for you!

Hope your oath date is very soon!

  5. Yay! I had the oath ceremony today in Baltimore at 11 AM.

We arrived at 10.30 AM - parked in a garage near the Federal Building ($12/hour). There was quite a long queue through security - showed my appointment letter and ID and went through to a holding area. We were then all ushered upstairs to the ceremony. There was a lot of people - around 200. After being seated, we had to line up, hand in our green cards, collect our little flag and some historical booklets and check the details on the certificate, then go sit down again.

We stood up, the national anthem was played and an officer then gave a small speech on what it means to be a US citizen. Then there was a small welcome video from the president, then another officer gave a speech.

We then all stood up, raised our right hands and gave the oath of allegiance (we were given a paper with it on to read). Also, everyone in the room had to stand up, and we all said the pledge of allegiance.

Four officers then started reading out peoples' names and you had to go up and collect your certificate. There was a small break where you could ask any questions, then we could go.

It was a nice event, a bit hectic as there were so many people, but generally well organised. The little booklet they gave us on US history is quite nice!

That's it then! Hard to believe it is over really....next stage...passport application and social security update.

  8. Thanks wanabe_texan and Kikidoug....Good to see that everyone has progressed well with their applications.

My interview experience was great and I am approved for naturalization. I was there 25 mins ahead of the scheduled time but surprisingly I was called in 5 minutes earlier than that. It was quite the same experience that I have been reading about on this forum. The IO went over the N400 application after the oath. oh and she took my ID , passport and green card as well. After that she asked 6 test questions, I got all right and passed the test. She was in good mood and did not want to spend too much time on the verification of the supporting documents. She asked me if I have other documents with me that I want to share,I said I have the originals if she wants to take a look on them but she seemed fine with that. It was pretty quick n took about 15 minutes. Oath ceremony is on September 30th. Well thats about it. I am happy , I am glad n I am over the moon

It has been a nice and quick journey. :) thanks everyone for all the support.

    :dance::dance::dance:

    Yay! Well done! :thumbs::star:

Interview appointment was at 2:40 Reached there 1:40 after going through security ( There are 3 queues Make sure you go to the one marked for Interview as it is a short line)

I was in the waiting room at 1:50 at that time there were around 60 - 70 people in the room by 2:40 there were only around 40 left waiting.

Checked time again it was 3:40 and only 3 people left in the room

But around 3:45 heard my name and was escorted to the interview room by a nice young immigration officer who was from a Asian decent and very polite first he apologized for the delay than guided me to his office.

Once in the office he asked me to raise had and took the oath to speak truth.

Then he asked for GC & passport then went through my application question by question. Verified my address than asked me to sign the pictures & Application.

Than he said it is time for test.

    Reading/Writing:

He gave me a peace of paper which has 3 line written on it as asked me to read line #2 ( What country is north of USA)

Than I was asked to write ( Canada is in the north of USA)

Then he printed a question sheet and asked me questions:

1- Who is the Chief justice of Supreme Court.

2- When do we vote for President

3- name 2 rights every resident has

4- Name one war USA fought in 1900

    5-

    6-

    7-

Forgot the other 3 , after asking the seventh question ( I answered all correct :) ) he stopped ( there were 3 more on that paper)

Than he congratulated me for passing the test and said he is recomending me for approval.

He also gave me 2 papers

    1- approval recommendation letter

2- Oath appointment letter for Sep 29th.

    That's it i was out with in 10 min :D :D:D:D:D

    Congratulations! :thumbs::dance::star:

  9. Congratulations KikiDoug!

Were you done with your interview by 2:15pm? If yes, why didn't they schedule your oath for the same day?

Also, when was your 3 year continuous permanent residence requirement satisfied?

Is that true that if I'm done with my interview before 3 year residence even by a few days they can't do same day oath, and I have to make another trip to the field office?

Yes, we were out by 1.30 PM. The officer said the next available oath date was Wednesday this week, so I took it. :star:

My 3 year continuous permanent residence requirement was satisfied on 1 September (see my timeline)

Not sure about your last question, but I read on another thread that they wouldn't schedule an interview before that time anyway.

  10. I'm late to the party here, but a huge CONGRATULATIONS to you :):dance::dance:

    And enjoy the Oath!!! Wooohooooo!!!

Thank you! Oath on Wednesday morning! :star:

    congrats....

guess studying well for the exam paid off !!!!

    cheers

Thank you! I was nervous and at one stage felt my mouth was talking without my brain in gear! I think it showed as the officer interviewing me asked me to relax!

  11. Does my wife need my original birth certificate for her N-400 Interview? I will give her my passport and social security card. Any experiences? What else should I include on my part? Thanks

I took BOTH my own and my husband's birth certificates with me just in case, as I have read cases of other people being asked for them. In the end I never needed them...

    Kiki :star:

  12. I filed my N-400 back in January. Had my fingerprints taken in February, but no progress since then. I had been trying to call USCIS to put in a request to research my case for a while now. USCIS didn't take my request because my case was no more than 2 months delayed compared to the posted "normal" timelines.

Well finally they took the request last week, and here's the response.

"Your fingerprints from your first Biometrics appointment came back as unclassifiable; therefore you will need to retake them."

I have no special urgency to become a US citizen, but this is a little frustrating. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could've done or should do going forward to make it go faster/smoother?

    thanks.

Ugh! I had this problem ages ago when I was trying to get my 2-yr GC. In the end, I had to obtain police reports of good conduct from all the areas I had lived to show I had no police record/arrests, etc.

I would phone up the USCIS and ask what to do. Maybe you can make an infopass appointment with your local office and retake them. Then if they are acceptable, your case can proceed.

    Kiki :star:

  13. Hi Kiki,

Oh ok...thanks for the clarification regarding that....No worries for you about that then, as your 2yr GC and EAD are expired already...

Just make sure you bring your 10yr green card for the oath ceremony though...

By the way, when you gave them your expired cards, did they ask for such, or did you voluntary give it to them? Just wondering, as I don't have an EAD (I never did apply for one in the first place), and I already threw out my expired 2yr GC...Wondering if I would get in trouble for not having such...

Good luck with your upcoming oath ceremony too.

    Ant

Thank you everyone! They took my old 2-yr GC and old EAD. I still have my 10 yr-GC. I think you give that back at the oath ceremony.

    Kiki :star:

Thank you for the congrats everyone! :star:

I volunteered over the cards as I no longer need them and they are expired - he didn't ask me for them.
