Thank you! I have both National Insurance and National Health numbers since birth as I was born, went to school/university and lived in England until I was 25. I even have an old P45. Maybe I need to get a new one?
So at departure check-in the US, I use my US passport...upon arrival in the UK I use my British passport to enter....then when leaving, at check-in in the UK I use my British passport and then upon arriving back in the US I hand over my US passport? Is that correct?
I was unsure about the check-in parts because I was not sure if the info the airline manifest has, has to match what you hand over. I phoned the UK embassy and they told me I needed a visa to work! So I'm kind of confused.....

I am a dual UK/US national. I got US citizenship back in 2009. A couple of questions:
1) When I enter the UK, which passport do I use for travel? I thought it was the US one, but then I would enter the UK as a US citizen. This leads on to my second question....
2) I have a job opportunity back in the UK. Can I still work there?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you all! Yes, I have informed my employer and done a new I-9...I looked everywhere on the DMV site for Maryland and couldn't find anything about citizenship...I guess I'll tell them when I renew my license!
The SSN cards are the same but I was told it is important to inform SS about the new citizenship status. My number is still the same but I have a new card!

Well, I have my new USA passport, have the citizenship certificate back, have a voter registration card and an updated SSN card...what else is there...? I think I may be done!

So, my interview is coming up on the 20th and I need my tax transcript for 2008. I filed an extension in April and just efiled yesterday 10/06, will I be able to get the transcript by the 19th or should I just take a copy of my returns? I'm sure I'll need them since I filed based on the 3 year rule.
I phoned the 1-800 IRS number on the Document Checklist and received our last 3 years transcripts in about a week. Not sure if this will work for you. However, it is automated and you can do it quickly, so maybe no harm in trying. Hope this helps

I received this message this evening...I am hoping that it gets delivered on time and without getting lost. I'm also rather worried about the certificate. It is sad and worrying to hear about so many people having trouble getting their passports and certificates delivered safely.

Hi everyone,
I will be attending my oath ceremony on September 30th so I have already started thinking about getting my passport book and updating the SS status. Therefore, I will be joining this thread soon. As for now I plan to apply for my passport on the same day i.e. Sept 30. I was wondering if it is possible to update the SS status on the same day. for SS, do they accept the copy or the the original certificate of naturalization.
Kikidough, I see from your timeline that you got both of the tasks ( passport & SS) done on the same day.
How did you manage it? Did you go to SS office first?.....Also just want to make sure that we are supposed to send in our original certificate of naturalization along with the passport application..right? After reading some posts around here, I am a bit apprehensive about it but anyways what can we do if it really is necessary..Good Luck to you all

When we got back home from the oath ceremony, I went to the SS office and filled in the form, gave in my old SS card and showed my DL. She said it would be at least 4 weeks for the system to be updated.
Then I went to the passport application facility at my local library, did the paperwork, took the photos and handed in my new naturalization certificate (somewhat reluctantly!).
Now it is a waiting game to get both my new SS card, passport and certificate back safely (nervous waiting...).
I sent off my voters registration a couple of days after.
Have not heard back from anywhere yet...

I got a call from the Passport Office today. They confirmed that they have canceled my passport and wanted to ensure that I am sending in the form to get it re-issued. I said yes, I had sent the form yesterday. She asked if by regular mail and yes, it was - I didn't think about using something faster, oh well - so as soon as they get it they will reissue my passport and deliver it by FedEx. I will need to sign for it - which suits me fine.Good news they phoned you...I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it works out this time!

I had my interview this morning and everything went well.
My scheduled time was 10 AM, I arrived at 9:30 and was called in 9:45Am.
The IO was very nice and polite.
The interview did last about 20 minutes and I left with the approval recommendation letter.
The IO told me i will be notified within 2 weeks for the Oath Ceremony.
I am getting closer to the end of this journey!!!!

As far as I know, you have to have been married and living together in the USA. Look at the issue date on his first Green Card - 90 days before the 3-year anniversary that he received it.
General Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for naturalization pursuant to section 319(a) of the INA, an applicant must:
- Be 18 or older
- Be a permanent resident (green card holder) for at least 3 years immediately preceding the date of filing Form N-400, Application for Naturalization
- Have been living in marital union with the U.S. citizen spouse, who has been a U.S. citizen during all of such period, during the 3 years immediately preceding the date of filing the application and up until examination on the application
- Have lived within the state, or USCIS district with jurisdiction over the applicant’s place of residence, for at least 3 months prior to the date of filing the application
- Have continuous residence in the United States as a lawful permanent resident for at least 3 years immediately preceding the date of filing the application
- Reside continuously within the United States from the date of application for naturalization until the time of naturalization
- Be physically present in the United States for at least 18 months out of the 3 years immediately preceding the date of filing the application
- Be able read, write, and speak English and have knowledge and an understanding of U.S. history and government (civics)
- Be a person of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the United States during all relevant periods under the law

Well, my passport still hasn't arrived! I confirmed with the passport office that it was indeed mailed back to me by priority mail on September 18th. The passport card and the certificate of citizenship showed up as scheduled on the 23rd but the passport itself is still MIA. I have filed a complaint with USPS telling them they need to find this asap and I will be going in person to the local USPS office first thing Monday Morning to follow up on my complaint. We have had trouble with them before mis-delivering mail and it wasn't until after they admitted their error and realized they would have to reimburse us after an insurance claim was filed that they 'found' it and collected it back from where they had misdelivered it. It took getting the PostMistress involved though and I will do that again if I need to. You would think that with something this important and this sensitive they would take more care. Grrrrrr - I am thoroughly annoyed right now.

I have to say our mail carrier is superb. I told him yesterday that we had been expecting my wife's naturalization certificate back but it wasn't in yesterday's mail. Today, there was a knock on our front door about 11 AM. It was our mail carrier, hand delivering my wife's certificate. He told us he was worried it would have gotten bent had he just put it in our mailbox, so he figured he might as well deliver it in person. How cool is that?Excellent!
