  1. I apply first on September 2014, then they transfered my file to a local office, dont know where, I think is in NY, since there It´s been 5 months stuck , but in total I have 10 months waiting....Im in my country right now, any idea why they taking so long??

Well I think we all give our best guess about why, which is useless. But I will say that our case finally went outside our local office processing times. We called the customer service and requested that an officer look into the delay. They gave us a confirmation number and put in an inquiry request. Even now our online status say that that request has not been assigned to an officer for review, but 2 days after we submitted this inquiry the status changed and welcome letter sent. I don't think that is a coincidence. I think you should call and submit a request too. If there is no result from that, contact the ombudsman. As they say, squeaky wheel gets the grease. You have to be annoying sometimes to get answers.

  2. Thank you!

    Noted:

My case was never been in Kendall, Florida. I had my biometric done there because it is the closest USCIS local office from my area. My case ended up in Fairfax after the random cases sent out from NBC to any local offices. Please follow NPIW thread as well. You will have a big picture all the process and ease your mind.

I advised you to start calling them after your husband waiting time out of normal processing times from the date he received NPIW letter. Do all the best you can. Fortunately, when I called Tier-1 and inquiry my case, a few days letter I received RFE whereas some others had done many things such as contact ombudsman or congressman and call USCIS, and they had no luck to get their cases being "touched".

You're right. My husband's case has never been to Fairfax either, although it is our local office. We are planning to call and harass them again tomorrow morning first thing. Do you mind telling me what the RFE was for? Did they want the full medical again from you or was it just for a vaccination missing? I know my husband's original medical lacked a vaccination, so he already went a couple months ago and got this done with the civil surgeon just in case we get an RFE on that.

    thanks!

  3. I have no idea. It happens to many NPIW letter receivers where their cases sent to another local offices. And even so, the ryhme is also not the same. Some local offices handled NPIW cases are different to view each application. One VJ member here, her case also ended up in Fairfax and got approved approximately 3 weeks later after she sent her RFE. Another office handled it very quick like in New York that only took less than a week to approved after the applicant sent the RFE.

Very interesting. My husband is a NPIW case as well. He got that letter in December and we have not heard anything since. I'd be happy if ANY office wanted to pick up the case. :) But I hope for you that this means you will get an approval soon!

  4. Nope. I have noticed that some local offices such as in Detroit always conduct interview AoS from K-1 visa because they are not busy. Three of people that I have known on VJ that their local office in Detroit and adjusted from K-1 visa had their interview done.

    For OP:

There is a chance that you can get both, NPIW as well as interview will scheduled. If you follow another thread you will know that someone get slapped on face two times. NPIW and interview being scheduled, just be ready. I have been following thread about NPIW and there are a lot cases that you will find worth reading.

For most of us, NPIW is a cursed. You will find many horror stories from those who received the letter. Good luck!

oh my gosh why did they ask you in Florida to send your medicals to Fairfax??!?! Some of us that actually live in the Fairfax office area would REALLY love that they get busy on our cases. Isn't that why they have local offices....you know to serve the locals of that area??! I am forever baffled by their process.

  5. I called the national service center and asked to speak to a Tier 2 officer, who is an immigration officer. The people who field these calls don't like that, either through ego or USCIS policy. You are best to call in the morning so you don't have wait too long. InfoPass is also an option, but same as asking for a Tier 2 officer.

Thanks. We will try that again and be much more insistent. They kept telling us that wasn't an option, which I thought many people here have said IS an option like you did. My husband has a pretty unpredictable work schedule so it would be much easier to call for us. Thanks for your quick reply!

  6. Did you get an interview waiver? If you did it'll likely take over a year from when you filed...

    Same boat. Same boat.

England2Wisco, I see that your timeline notes that you finally got your greencard. Can I ask how you received information from an immigration officer about the status of your case? Did you do an infopass appointment? We have been told by the customer service people that they have no idea about the status of our case other than the general status that we see online. Its super unhelpful. Let us know how you managed this!

    thanks!

  7. Does it really matter what country the beneficiary is from? I noticed other timelines similar to mine from the same country it just varied depending on what serviece center it went through......

No, people like to throw conspiracy theories around about people's backgrounds, but it doesn't matter what country they are from. The only exception would be the Philippines, who are usually expedited due to the typhoon back in 2013. It's 100% dependent on which service center your

You should probably just heed Sandra's advice since she is apparently a know it all. The initial NVC stage will take longer through the TSC these days, we've got that. As you can probably see from the differences between our timeline and Sandra's, she waited 40ish days for an interview at the consulate, while we waited almost 200. This is after the initial approval from USCIS. Once the case is sent to the consulate, you are dealing with the department of state and they are very serious about the risk of permitting visas for potential "terrorists". Ours initially went through TSC too, although much faster than Sandra's but the consular stage was much longer for us. Bottom line is that there is no predicting this beast. Just hang on and enjoy the ride, although it becomes much more enjoyable after your fiance is actually in the country.

  8. We never got an interview waiver... in October we got an 'approved for interview now wait' message. It has been 9 months. I am getting concerned because my EAD expires in October...

If they don't give an interview in time is there a way to extend the EAD?

Yes you should reapply for the EAD and Advanced Parole (if you want that too). It is free to reapply. You just have to submit your receipt for the I-145, new passport photos, and a copy of the current EAD. Its very easy and you can reapply 120 days before your current one expires. We just sent my husbands renewal app for that in this week too since it expired in October like yours.

  9. Thanks for your respond ,

But if I have a good saving account and we can get a sponsor I have family memeber and friends in USA , do you think this will help or not ? Is the sponsor will accepted on k1 visa or not ?

Yeah I imagine you will be fine with K1 with savings and co sponsor. Don't worry too much. They are not that intense I don't think. The issue is that they need to know you will have financial support during the waiting since you will not be eligible for any kind of public assistance. Also, I didn't mention, but my husband's interview was super easy and the interviewer was very nice at the Cairo embassy, just like Jaime mentioned about her husband's.

  10. We didn't have any issues either going the K1 route. He visited the US once and I visited Egypt once before we started the application. I dont' know though if it would be more of a challenge if she does not have sufficient income. I'm not trying to sound judgy, but I get really nervous for people that seem to be applying with a US fiancee that is already struggling financially. I'm not saying your fiancee is, but I watched 90 day fiancee (this is a TV show here) and one guy had a haaarrrd time understanding just how much of a struggle his fiancee was having to just pay the bills. The time it takes to get here, get work authorization, and secure a decent job is not quick. She will have to support herself, her child, and you for a while. Please prepare yourself for that either way. Even with me having a good salary, it was very hard for my husband to feel like he couldn't contribute for a while. I can imagine that he would have had a much harder time with those feelings if I was barely able to cover rent.

Good Luck to you though. Young love is such a sweet thing!

  11. I've never seen any E1 applicants here, so I have no reference for how long that application takes. Advice: Welcome to the club, hang in there, the US govt is sloooooow so please don't hold your breath. :)

I have no idea why your thing here says E1 but your timeline says K1. Now that I know you are doing K1, REALLY don't hold your breath. YOu can see that pretty much nobody gets to an approval that fast. It was 10 months for us. What country is the beneficiary from? That matters.

  12. Thank you so much for your story. I know there isn't anything I can do about it, but I guess I worry he will hate it here and want to go back to Egypt. We pretty much already decided that we'd like to spend our life between both countries but settle here. You are right though, we are not in the Bible Belt--we're in Virginia. Some pockets seem worse than others. I'm glad you all were able to find a niche in your community and educate others about his culture and religion :)

That was a great story and I do not envy her trying to make it work in Alabama! My husband and I are in the DC area. I am a transplant from Texas. I made the conscious decision a year before my husband moved here to relocate to this area for the exact reasons you stated. My family in particular had a very hard time adjusting to the idea of me marrying someone so different from what they imagined for me. My sweet husband is Egyptian too and Muslim too. I will say that he has not had any discrimination type experiences here in this area. In many neighborhoods there are more like him than not. I would certainly echo the comment that for my Texas crew, it was night and day after they spent time with him. I can say that although I'm sure they are praying for him to have a conversion experience, which he will not ever, my evangelical family/friends love him and see him as a part of the family now. Just give it time. Our country is in a VERY odd state of mind these days with so very much anti-Muslim sentiment. It is hard to watch, and hard to think about my husband suffering directly from this, but yeah, you can't protect him.

Everything will be fine. And if you ever come to the DC area, you have friends here!!!

  13. This is for K1? It means that they have sent your packet to the embassy for processing on that end. The national visa center is only half of the process. The embassy will receive it soon and begin processing it on their end (interview, medical, visa issuance, etc.). I don't think this is something to be worried about. Totally normal. Department of State is the authority over embassies and consular services.

Sorry I didn't answer your question. We did our processing through Egypt and they did notify us that the embassy received our package about 10-15 days after we got this message that you just got.

  14. I've noticed more people have gotten notification of interview waivers since the new year, but I second this question:

Has anyone who received an interview waiver received their GC yet?

We're going on 8 months since applications and 4+ months since we received the interview waiver... 2-ish more to go. Hopefully not more.

We just got our potential interview waiver letter at the very end of April, although they originally mailed it to our former address in December. So at least it only feels like 2 months of waiting for us. We did change our address in October, got a letter IN THE MAIL at our new address acknowledging that they have our new address on file for this case, then they choose to send it to the wrong address anyway 2 months later. It took them 4 months to get the letter to our address that was supposed to be on file. Losing confidence in the system daily....we originally filed the AOS September 8th, so we are in the same boat with you, divikaki.

  15. Wow. He sounds like a great guy and you a great in-law! Thanks for sharing more of your heart and your story. For me as someone who had to deal with some serious family anger about my marriage, it was easy for me to mistake the intention behind the comment. Thankfully my family has come around and really loves my husband. I'm so excited for your daughter and future son-in-law because they are miles ahead of where some of us were in the family support department. I am a firm believer that everything works out for the good and this stress of the plans you guys are making will pass too.

I'm also happy to hear NLR's comment about waiving the school in state tuition residence requirement. My husband has interest in going on to get a Master's degree at some point. If he does plan to go to college here, make sure he brings his high school transcript. My husband did not bring his college transcript and unfortunately due to the bureaucracy that is his university, he can't attend classes here until he goes back home and gets it. I'm sure its easier to get things to and from Canada and the universities probably have more systems in place for electronic versions, etc.

Good Luck again, and congrats to the happy couple!
