When i moved to US i didnt have DL also. I used indeed.com to find jobs in my zip code area ( advanced search, scroll down, choose zip code and pick "only in") and found a job 4 miles away from home. I was biking there to start with (on the side walk,as too scared to bike on the roads in Orlando) and now I'm still working there enjoying a nice <10 min commute by car :-) Now, I'm not saying it will work in your case but may be worth a try! Good luck!

My wife never cooked when she lived in South Korea. Her mom prepared all of her meals (and they were GOOD). Anyway, I love to cook a number of foods, and she's picked up on my hobby. I think cooking is one of those things that anyone can do without thinking about language. We are in NYC which makes gathering ingredients easy - especially Korean things. There is a fruit / veg market near my place that is run by Koreans. I didn't even know this when I signed the lease on my place. It's turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
My wife doesn't really like to go out on her own yet. I think she's always afraid due to the dramas like CSI and the like. Anyway, she likes to go to that market and get stuff. She's into pickling now. It's awesome - fresh pickles all the time. Salsa too, the best I've ever had. It's amazing how much a simple thing like cooking has helped ease her pain here. The doorman to my building always talks to her when she goes out, and he always tells me things like "your wife brought home a bag of groceries that weighed more than her!".
    I love it.
Another thing, not sure about other members situations, but a lot of the ESL certification places require their students to teach a certain number of hours before being certified. There are a few of those in NYC. So she's able to go take free English classes. On the one hand, it's free, so I can't complain. On the other, it's free, so if 1% of her doesn't feel like going- she won't.
Anyway, cooking is the key for my wife. She found this hobby and she loves it. We exercise together a lot too, and go to the pool nearly every night after I get back from my day of work.
The other thing I have found recently is Hulu Plus. They have a TON of Korean dramas that are updated the day after they come out in Korea. I signed up for that in a heart beat for her, and she streams it VIA the Blu ray player. So I'll come home sometimes and she'll be on the couch sobbing, and I'm thinking something terrible happened or she misses her family... then I notice the tv is on and tune into the sound system and recognize the title music from the drama... and she'll say something like.... "she broke up with Soo Hyun".
Everyone is different, but like everyone has said... find hobbies to do TOGETHER. Not things only she likes.
    CN-
    Find things to do together-
    Buy a couples cookbook.
Teach her how to cook, can, bake
    Tango
    Massage class (highly rec.)
Skype sessions are okay, but I find that if you schedule them then the spouse thinks about that a lot - leads to missing her family which could have been absent. Try to just let that happen naturally (I noticed a big change when we did that).
You will probably be working Mon - Fri. When Saturday mornings come around - cook her breakfast.
Your spouse will take care of you all week. You need to take care of her on the weekends.

Soojung reacted to mpc1535 in RE: NVC case # from VSC/TSC/CSC Timeframe
    Hello VJ friends,
What is the typical wait time from NOA2 to NVC case number for K1? The guide does not appear to be fullproof...I have heard for K1, the process is typically shorter than those on CR1. I have also heard from different NVC agents that can take 1 week or up to 8 weeks.
I am starting this posting to gather information on timeframe from NOA2 to NVC case number.
From what I hear from both the NVC and the DOS, the USCIS sends the cases in batches instead of on an individual basis (probably to save cost at the expense of further waiting times for individuals).
I am currently NOA2 July 2nd and NVC still has yet to receive my case.
I hope this post will help those of you who are in similar situation (which is basically all of us)
To help make more people aware and to facilitate this discussion, please do the following
    1) Post your NOA2 date and service center
    2) Post your latest news (when you received NVC case # or last time you called and they still don't have it)
This will give us all an idea on the next waiting period.
    Cheers!

    Welcome to the forum.
Hey, it can seem rather daunting. But there have been many of us that have trudged the same path as you before.
In particular, the K-1 visa flowchart:
    http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow
It should shed some light and provide you with some good guidance.
Additionally, acquaint yourself with the embassy info page:
    http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Myanmar&cty=Rangoon
And check in at the respective regional forum.
    Good luck.

    Hi,
I've been waiting for 12 days now since USCIS got my RFE response in CSC and no file touch or response yet from their end.
How do they usually notify when USCIS reviews the RFE response? Do they touch the file first and then respond or they just notify about NOA2 in case if they accept the RFE response.
I got so obsessed with checking the online status. It drives me crazy but I can't help it.

that's what I thought too!!! because I would see so many WACs being worked on around mine for the past couple weeks, at least 20 per day surrounding mine and I was convinced they skipped me ... then last night they approved.
yesterday I saw over 40 WACs being updated near mine .... so if they keep this up you should get a response soon.
and thanks for the congrats everyone

Well after receiving NOA2 on 9th May, my fiance just called NVC and they were able to give him the case number YAY!!!!!!
They did tell him though that it takes 4-6 weeks usually before the papers get to London. But that is still good news in my books. We are still moving forward

I've seen a lot of approvals from CSC this past few days and noticed that they are starting to approved January filers. I just don't think that it is right to approved those who just filed this year and forget the filed petitions from last year. A lot of people are still waiting, some waited to 7-9 months to get approvals. That is just unfair.

Just logged on to see that we were approved today!!!!! NOA1 January 3 here. Only 4 months and I'm shocked. Our petition was simple and to the point. Just my passport stamps and a few photos and boarding passes. I think pages and pages of skype convos etc weigh down the application. Just my 2 cents. So happy! Thanks for all the help and tips here

Soojung reacted to Kastrs in What is going on with CSC?
A couple of things that have been said
    1) there is now a bit of a backlog at the Nvc because of the overwhelming number of approvals csc recently had, perhaps they are trying to throttle petitions so Nvc can catch up
    2) because of the prior extreme slowdown at csc many new adjucators were hired, they are still going through training
    3) as to your point about VSC begin way ahead it is about even at this pont really, csc does not have as many July or August petitions done but they have way more November and December ones completed
    4) VSC did slow compare to a couple months ago, they have only recently in the last week or so sped up a bit more, maybe the slowdown at csc is just a very minor slowdown, it might speed back up to more normal and regular processing rates in a bit
    5) although it's been said a bunch of times before VJ does represent a small fraction <10% of all the petitions at the processing centers
The biggest thing everyone can agree on is waiting blows!!!

Although my petition has already been approved, I'm proud to sign this in hopes it will bring fairness to other petitioners. My only suggestion is that it should have addressed all service centers and not exclusively California.

Please sign this whitehouse petition to speed up the K-1 fiance visa process. As many of you know the DACA processing backlog at the California servicing center has slowed down a already slow processing of K-1 fiance visa. What should take 5 months and was taking 7.8 months is now taking 9 months or more. Please sign this petition in order to help improve the processing time for those who have followed the legal process of immigration and are now stuck in limbo.

I really want to know what the problem is at the service centers... This is what they have to do.
There are tons of people waiting to be approved, and being apart from loved ones.
I want the workers to know how much we are waiting to hear from them...
