zooropa got a reaction from Ramsep in N-400 Filers who got stuck or delayed in Background / Name Check.
This is what occured late in 2016:

"According to USCIS, they recently discovered that their software system was truncating names of naturalization applicants when they sent the names over to the FBI for background checks. That meant the background checks weren’t done correctly or fully. As you can imagine, this is a problem because a few background checks were coming back clear when they shouldn’t.
Out of an abundance of caution, USCIS decided to pull every N-400 case that was in the ELIS system and ask the FBI to rerun the background checks for those applicants who had filed, who had been interviewed, and who had not yet been sworn-in as US citizens. Although USCIS has asked the FBI to expedite these checks, they do not know how long this will take."

I agree,  if someone filed fingerprints in DEC 2016 or JAN 2017, I would not consider that a delay in Background checks.  And if you review the processing times for the Field Offices, you are very much within their times.  There is a definite delay in N400s,  as the USCIS processing times were posted a month or so ago, and then a few days later they reposted "new" times that actually went backwards in time.  My PD is now 306 days ago.  I am nearing one year since filing, and I am not alone in this snafu, their are large numbers caught up in this "refiling" of background checks due to USCIS computer error last year.  All of this means many more N400s will be delayed due to this backup.

    Ok,
Just want to repost this here as some may find this useful knowledge.
    EAC 99 001 50001

EAC represents the office location where initially received into the electronic system. In the example, EAC indicates St. Albans. Cases that are received at another Service Center but processed at the NSC will generally carry the originating office number.
EAC = St. Albans, Vermont or Vermont Service Center

SRC= Dallas, Texas or Texas Service Center

WAC= Laguna Niguel, California or California Service Center

99 represents the fiscal year in which the case was received.

001 represents the computer workday in the fiscal year on which the fee was taken. Generally 001 is October 1st, the first working day of the fiscal year. 265 generally is a computer work day in September. This is NOT truly a julian date because no “computer work day” exists if the center does not receipt cases on any particular date, e.g. most Saturday’s, all Sunday’s and holidays.

50001 represents the particular case number. In this case, it is the first case received in CLAIMS3 LAN on that particular workday.

Thanks! It was quite a wait and delays every step of the way. I hope your journey is going well! I would not do this again, I would just marry in the other country and wait there for this long process. I would not suggest anyone go thru this K1 process, life is too short to lose close to a year of time apart. So glad the separation is over!!
    Take Care!!

No offense taken! It just struck me odd that someone would want to stop any discussion on something relative to our cases...no harm no foul...I already have a thread and think I should take the sleuthing there. Well wishing is great and does keep up the spirits, so please continue...I dont want to offend anyone either...
    Good luck everyone!!!

I disagree with this. Our case is a January petition and Sarah Beaulieu at Congressman Joe Wilson's office has responded to us numerous times, been extremely helpful and friendly and is doing everything she can to help. We got another response last night she got from the TSC saying to call back in 45 days if we have no response, then she added at the bottom that she's sorry it's a generic reply but she promises she's doing everything she can. It simply depends on who you have.
Edit: Oh and she has never discredited VJ information, and she in fact is dealing with another consituent who has been transferred to TSC.

Harsh - you and I have both been here long enough to know that it's not just the individual case specifications which slow down the order if processing. Sometimes it seems like huge boxes of petitions are forgotten about on shelves when there are backlogs or other problems.
It happens every now and again and is very frustrating for those who get caught up in it.
There's the weeks and month or so out of order which I think can be explained by differences in cases, or say one slow officer having a box of petitions on his desk while the super speedy guy next to him is whizzing through the petitions in his boxes.
And then there are the times when the petitions are months and months out of order.
Back in 2007 when we filed we were in exactly this situation. We filed in Oct and waited for a long time, everyone was waiting. Then suddenly in about March the petitions from Jan onwards started getting approvals - all the Oct, Nov and Dec people were left waiting. It was as though our files had been stuck in a room somewhere lost. So we were just waiting while people who had filed five months after us were being approved.
At around 9 and a half months after filing we were suddenly all sent a note saying that our petitions were being sent to California to be processed. And we were approved 2 weeks later.
It was incredibly unfair. And a great example of how disorganised and flawed the system can be. Maybe FIFO is too much to ask for with such a huge number of cases but it could be a lot better than it is now.

I submitted an inquiry to Cornyn's office and they received the same generic USCIS reply as my local
US Congressman's office: "Case is within normal processing limits and file is currently with an Adjudicating Officer. Please allow 30-60 days for processing." My NOA1 date is Nov 9th and there is nothing unusual about our case. I feel your pain. I stopped looking at the CSC dates because it breaks my heart to see they are in February and March.
What I don't understand is that the infamous October 15th processing date is as of the March 31st USCIS update. That update was over two months ago... clearly they have moved well beyond October 15th.
I have learned that unless people go through this process, they aren't passionate about changing the system. My friends and colleagues are appalled when I tell them our nightmare with immigration.

You're right it is very emotional. The process is a long and draining one. But I disagree that emotion is a bad thing in this process. Things aren't going to change until people get emotional enough to demand something change. To sit back and just take what they hand you when you're dealing with an inefficient system isn't something I'm capable of doing. I am active with local immigration groups; I will continue to write my representatives regarding the faults with the current system.
As far as processing times, I don't expect anything to be done until it's past them. I really am not looking for someone to push me to the front of the line. But they aim for a 5 month turn around and right now if we're going from October it's over 7 months. That's a bit ridiculous. There has to be a better solution to this broken system, but until enough people speak up about their experiences with it, it won't change.
I don't think you're attacking me at all. And even if my pursuits are fruitless I feel better utilizing my rights as a citizen to be active in my government and push for change.
Thanks for your insight, it's much appreciated!

As I said, I won't debate this with you anymore as myself and other members have had the same debate with you and it's going in one ear and out the other. I don't have issues with you, I have issues with your constant insistence that VSC "isn't that bad" and everytime a VSC filer tries to vent about the rut we're in, you come chiming in with the "Oh, well CSC is quite bad too". Bit difficult when you see tons of CSC NOA2s everyday on Igor's List, "CSC - Approved!" topics everyday and we're sitting here anticipating to wait months more while people who filed months after us get approved. Zooropa was dead right in that he said VSC filers never came booting their opinions in, being insensitive saying "Oh don't worry, it's not that bad, we're only a couple of months ahead", but as soon as the shoe's on the other foot, there is a CSC white knight brigade. There are some CSC 2012 filers still waiting who could be approved at any time. VSC has also skipped filers, and December/January filers have months left to wait. But there's only a "perceived gap". I'll tell that to the majority of those who are currently getting their NOA2s in 3/4 months when I've waited 6 months+ for mine.
The overall trend data? How do you mean?

Why do CSC people ALWAYS feel a need to take over every Vermont thread and state " not months ahead" ...please tell me how many Nov and Dec filers have been approved at CSC (percentage) and then give me the VSC numbers...then we can talk about January....

This is the terrible truth. Please do not be persuaded to believe otherwise. Just look at IGORs list to see first hand.
Please contact your congresspeople... Senators...tell them this system is broken...we need to overhaul the ENTIRE program...not just one center...

I wonder why you were not around posting to the huge amount of threads that the CSC people created during their slowdown...policing every fact, every number...I dont recall ANY VSC people chiming in on these numerous threads and saying "oh its not that bad"..strange that CSC was allowed to rant, but if VSC people start a few threads...the first and most vocal people are CSC people....very strange....

Ok...lets all agree with this vision that CSC has a ton of 2012 to still get thru and they are very close in approval numbers as VSC. And they are not under the SAME Federal program.
Lets just toss reality out the window....

That's not true, "weren't adjudicating cases at all" is not correct, CSC was still approving cases in the slow period they just had. It was VERY slow, but they did approve cases. Very similar to VSC now, 1-3 a day. We all know where that leads to, VSC is building a backlog that will soon outgrow anything CSC had before. CSC is now approving Feb 2013...VSC cannot even finish OCT 2012...that's a HUGE difference...

zooropa got a reaction from QueenOfBlades in Biggest gap I have seen between csc and vsc processing time
I disagree, the Immigration issue has been a huge topic for months now politically, to just complain about one center is a bit myopic.
The USCIS process to approve Visa petitions is broken. This is something we can all agree on. Not too long ago, the petitioners would complain about a "100 day" wait for approval. This is something the most recent petitioner would be very happy for. Instead, if you are lucky enough to get VSC, you will wait 6-9 months. At CSC, historically, the wait is 4-6 months. This has forced the petitioners to wait and watch as one center moves thru the months approving faster than the other center. The best way to continue a broken system is to confuse and separate the participants. Pit one group against the other. Nothing productive will ever evolve in this practice. No need to improve service, but easy to do the opposite. The system can grow and stretch out further in time, it can become less efficient, as we all have seen.
The focus will be on "my center moving slower than yours", instead of the real problem. Until all of the people that are involved in this process both past and present, come together and bring this broken Federal process to the attention of their elected officials, we will continue to see a "push here and a push there" at each center just enough to quiet the complaints at the time.
We cannot continue to see it as a district or regional problem, but as it really is, a broken Federal process that is growing in delay and soon will be over a year process for the new petitioners. I believe the only way to make real change is for each petitioner to make a personal call and/ or visit to their elected officials and voice this concern for BOTH CENTERS.
