  1. Says the person with a Canadian flag next to their name who could go back and forth to the U.S. on a whim, while the rest of us are separated from our family members for a year or more.

This doesn't sound bitter at all. Nope. Sweet as a cherry.

Why not start with unemployment benefits which mean that people can make more money out of work than they can working?

Why not structure benefits so that working will never leave someone out of pocket, when compared to not working?

'Cause you can't get votes that way.

  2. Why not incentivize getting un- and under-employed Americans to work the jobs, rather than perpetuating the exploitation of illegal immigrant labour?

Sounds like you're suggesting we encourage people to work rather than make the same amount living off of government benefits. Tsk tsk.

(but really, I've been saying this for what feels like three lifetimes. Can't exactly blame somebody who doesn't want to take a menial job if they can make roughly the same amount doing nothing)

  3. Put yourself in the shoes of these people. I think too many Americans think they are entitled just for being born in this country. I could care less where someone was born, or what background they come from. If they want to pursue happiness, I want to let them.

As long as they pay taxes, what's the downside? That's the biggest complaint people have. Illegals can't pay taxes (aside from sales tax when they buy things to survive). If they are legal, they can and have to pay taxes. We were privileged enough to be born on a plot of land divided up by purely political boundaries - we did not earn anything by being born here. What is so hard about viewing illegal immigrant as people with the misfortune of being born outside of the lines? What is so hard about viewing them as people?

I don't support blind amnesty - money has to be accounted for. I don't support open border - we have to ensure there is not a mass flood of people that we can not financially or structurally support. But I feel like we have to stop viewing the immigration problem through means that dehumanize immigrants - illegal or otherwise - and work towards a solution that allows more opportunity for the population of this world.

  4. The hell with laws! Let's abandon all of them! Make crime pay!! Let's really bust everyone's balls who immigrates legally!! ANY person who has gone through the process legally should be appalled at amnesty. You know who you are. Shame on you.

No. Shame on anyone who thinks they have the right to shame others for having different thoughts and opinions other than "dep0rtAtion!11!!!!!" on something that is a heavily debated issue.

  5. I wonder where the majority of Native Americans stand on these types of issues.

Well we didn't listen to them then, why should we start now?

But really, if the only crime is people trying to come here for a better future for themselves and their children - how are we demonizing them for that when our ancestors all came here for the same reason? Is it more complicated than "just clear them", well, duh. We have taxes, security, etc. to consider, but what else, as a human society, should we do? Send these people back to war-torn or violent countries where they can't even drink the water? When you have thousands of people risking lives and limbs to jump on trains crossing the border, you have to acknowledge the desperation and good intent of these people. They aren't trying to con us out of our jobs or our homes - they sacrifice everything to come here, to work jobs we won't consider taking, to live in dangerous or poor neighborhoods, to sacrifice all of their workers' rights and legal protections to try and make things better.

Is it frustrating to consider amnesty when we are going through the costly and extensive legal process? Of course it is. Selfishly, I am annoyed. But my fiance and I can afford to go through the process and I am not fearing for his safety or his future while we wait. I bemoan the separation, but how can I compare our situation to the people who risk everything and give up their human rights for a shot at opportunity?

  6. The blow-back is already beginning.

The thing about that article is that American media had not referred to Chechen attackers as "terrorists" through these events, but referred to them as "rebel fighters", "guerrillas", "insurgents", etc. Now that the attacks could've potentially (not sure if it was Chechen agenda yet) happened here, we're quick to label them "terrorists" and the events terrorism. Bit hypocritical, as usual.

  7. Chicks are more apt to go down on a circumcised ####### than they are on an uncircumcised one. Uncircumcised penises tend to have more fromunda cheese than circumcised ones.

I don't know what you're doing with "chicks", but I'm sure their sharp beaks are not pleasant on the #######.

Now, women are more likely to do anything with a ####### that is clean regardless of circumcision.

  8. Well, it doesn't really work with many of the god-fearing religions, as, from what I can tell, it seems they view life as a Heaven Entrance Exam. You only get one shot to get into the prestigious afterlife, and if you fail, sorry, but you'll be flipping burgers in the fiery underworld. That's my image, anyway.

Reincarnation means that, in most cases, you lose all memory of your past life, and start over freshly. This is something that a lot of people don't want to believe. The fact that you might start over as a dung beetle is something even fewer people want to believe. I just think it matters where your body's energy ends up.

"Flipping burgers in the fiery underworld" might be my new favorite view of the "heaven/Hell" concept

Reincarnation has always sounded so much more appealing to me than "eternity" in one place, in one mind, etc. I tend to believe in reincarnation when I believe in things, so I am biased, but just being able to live different lives sounds so amazing and wonderful. Perhaps traces of previous memories are retained, and even the essence of who you are is, but everything else gets to be different every time. So fascinating to consider - at least to me.

  9. The basis of faith cannot be abandoned or modified for individual tastes. Individual and public opinion is irrelevant. People that do not practice their faith are not believers of the religion of which they claim affiliation.

The Qur'an and the Bible both condemn homosexuality. It is God who sets the standards of right and wrong, not man.

Both books condemn a lot of things that the modern world no longer condemns (for example, rabbits in the bible are Satanic creatures...not viewed that way now, obviously).

As the Bible is a book written by Man, I would say Man has had a lot to do with standards for right and wrong. Individual and public opinion has shaped and changed all religions throughout time. To suggest that religion and a belief in God can occur without regard to social context is, in my opinion, naive.

  10. Hi i'm newbie here :) if you someone can copy/paste a link thread regarding K-1 will appreciated. We availed a services to process our K-1.

I hope the process won't take that long. DO you think the VO/interviewer will look at on how long is your relationship is? Coz we were just new and he filed the petition already.

Feb. 3. 2013 - we started talking, my friend introduce him to me via online.

    Mar 26 - Apr 6, 2013 - first visit to PH

Apr 13, 2013 - sent all the requirements to the company which we availed the services.

April 15, 2013 - we received an email informing the the company received and check all the docs if there is something missing.

April 15, 2013 - they sent our docs to USCIS.

my fiance will be coming for his 2nd visit on June and he will stay for almost 40days here.

Hoping that we will get the approval fast

Fiance is divorce and he got the divorce decree with the signature of the " clerk"

The process is taking a very long time now. July filers are still waiting. I can't say if the short relationship is a red flag, but I would assume it might raise a few eyebrows.

  11. Hi everyone,

Well we finally got married 3 weeks ago on our K1 visa after 5 years of long distance!! :) So now the fun adjustment of status begins! I have no clue where to start, can anyone please help?

Thanks a bunch in advance! :help:

    Congrats!

Here is a step by step guide that includes the next steps: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow

And here is the guide for AOS, EAD and AP: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

    Best of luck!

  12. Oh, elusive NOA2. Finally, you are mine!

I had some kind of psychic feelings it would come... and I got it. (Note: I am not claiming to be psychic, although I do have great timing with regards to knowing exactly when the microwave oven will beep, or an alarm clock will go off... maybe it applies :P )

Strangely, they didn't update my case on the internet, but I received the hard copy today -- it was issued on April 11.

That is so weird! Glad you got it regardless :D

  13. Hey everyone :) it's been a while!! So since I was last in contact, I used my K1 visa, arrived 12th March, started our family by rescuing a dog, got married 5th April...I know I have to apply for a social security number, but I'm puzzled as to what I need to do at this side...I want to do a dual citizenship if I can so I can work and reside here.

I had a look in the forms section, which suggested I need to file for a I-485 and is it really $985...is this correct? If not can anyone point me in the right direction please? I just want to make sure before we start on the next step of the journey!

    Thanks, Lisa :)

Hi Lisa! That is one of many forms to complete and the AOS process costs a bit more ($1070 last time I looked). Take a look at this guide here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

You can't apply for citizenship for 3 years after you adjust, but when you apply for AOS you also apply for your EAD, which is your work permit.

Have a look at the handy step-by-step guide, too: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow

  14. Can I send my k1 visa to any USCIS on the list. I live in Louisiana , but I heard someone from Texas send his to California an it was approve an it was fast?

No. You send your I-129F petition and supporting documents to the Texas lockbox. From there it gets routed to either California or Vermont depending on your state.

Address for the lockbox is here: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=1872aca797e63110VgnVCM1000004718190aRCRD
