  1. Yeah, I'm over here now for a couple weeks. The suggestion to send them to International school is sounding like the best solution. Either Burriam (nearer to the village) or Chonburi (nearer to my wife's kids and civilization). Probably going to find a house to buy before inflation really takes off even though it will be a few years before we can move. Don't know if I mentioned it but there are two Sisters that we will also provide for, 5 and 7, so school for them too. We don't want their world to be village.

  2. The boy is 10 YO in Thailand. My wife's daughter has to work and the boy is home in the village. We have been married in the States for 8 years and would be happy to adopt the kid and bring him over here.

I've spent some time researching and not getting far. We know another couple here who tried adopting from Thailand and they told me it's very hard.

Any input would be great. Thanks very much - Tango

I understand this as I have a Thai wife, and spend/ have spent lots of time in the country, and I understand what you mean when you have to have someone there to care for person in the hospital. It is not like here in the US for example where you have nurses and aids to assist, and it is all included per say in the cost of the care. In the government hospitals in Thailand, you have to have somewhere there to assist with feeding, taking the patient to the bathroom/ shower/ etc. there is no one there to assist. I know you can pay people to do it for you, and it isn't too expensive, but day after day it can add up for sure, and from what you have said it is a long term care type situation. Depending, I know they have some decent nursing home type facilities that can provide all of that if patient doesn't require specialized care for around 10,000-15,000 baht a month. But maybe that could be an option for him/her.

  4. A friend of ours, who has his green card and is married to a US Citizen, spends about 10 months abroad each year. He is on his 2nd green card I think. So he does come back each year for about 2 months. He is taking care of a family member over there.

The wording about residency requirements is a little hard for me to understand.

Continuous Residence and Physical Presence Requirements for Naturalization - https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid%3AUSC-prelim-title8-section1430&num=0&edition=prelim

If anyone has some clarity on this, I'd appreciate the comments. Somewhere I got the idea that they had to spend at least 6 months a year in the US but I con't know where exactly I read that.

    Thank you!

  5. Hi VJ,

Is it normal to not have any response to an I-130 other than a receipt with the receipt number after they received it on January 19, 2021? This is for my grown up step daughter in Thailand.

  7. Yes, she is single and has a 9 year old whom we hope to get over here at some point. This is all mainly for a better future for the boy. Our daughter (my step daughter) will do fine over here also. It's difficult to get ahead in Thailand especially if you are not from a known family. So I was skeptical about applying because I've always heard it's quite difficult to get a green card. I am thinking if it ever happens it could be 5 - 10 years?

    Thanks again Chancy.

  8. Cee, your right friend, I am trying to work that out. I don't speak Thai which is a hindrance. Anyway, Since I've now found out the Grand likely cannot come here. my next step is get him schooled in Mandarin and English. Not easy in the Village. My wife takes her Citizenship test in 3 weeks, I think she will pass. Thanks guys, any input I appreciate big. - Tango

  9. Well at least now I know. I had some idea it might be one to two years. Our K-1 took 20 months back in 2012-2014 when it was really bad before they hired the CGI contractors which did not seem to help much. When they set us back for not specifying that her daughter was not coming along, I felt almost like if we had said yes, we would have just got the birth certificate and any other required paper and waited the same three months! Thanks again all. Anything more I welcome.

  10. Dee elle, thanks for your advice. Really that is what I thought after spending about an hour looking. I remember when my wife came over on a K-1, we did not specify whether her daughter, minor at the time at 20 I think was a minor and held up our Package 3 because we did not bring anything on her daughter, since we didn't plan to for her to come along. That mistake cost us about 3 months of processing time. But if the Daughter were apply, she could apply with her son I think? That would be the only way I can see. Thanks again and anyone else has anything let me know.

  11. My wife has a 7 year old Grandson in Thailand. Her daughter, the kids mother has to work in the city while my wife's Sister takes care of the Grand. They all get along but we would like the kid to have a chance over here in the U.S. I have not seen anything about a Grandchild coming over. We would adopt him if we had to. I am thinking our best chance would be to have the daughter come over with the Grandson, I mean visa wise the best chance. If anyone knows anything about all this please let me know. My wife's Citizenship interview is in June and I'm pretty sure she will pass. I read over 90% pass the first time. Thanks for any help

@Tango777  Hi there - yes that would be the biometrics/fingerprinting appointment.

    - you will receive an email notification that your account will need some attention (you have to sign into the account, they will not tell you outright in the email)

    - once you are signed in, on your account page - it will just say they have scheduled you for a biometrics appointment, and you will need to view your letter in the Documents tab

    - the PDF copy of the letter with the appointment date and time will show up on your Documents tab a few days after - so will the mailed/hard copy of your biometrics appointment.

Thank you marriedtomrg - I hope the appointment is after May 15 !
