Hello Everyone,
I will be USC soon, as I have filed my N400 5 months back.
I am planning to file for my parents green card right after I become USC.
My parents has visitor visa, and they both have been here before. My mom is coming this August for 5 months to stay, while my dad will visit for a month or so at the end of December.
Few questions:
1) Which documents are needed for filing my parents' Green card?
2) Which address should I provide as their resident? As my mom will be staying longer than my dad, do I put two different addresses for both of them? And Adjustment of Status, if I file, and they are not here at that time, what happens?
3) My parents are ~55 Years old. They will be getting insurance from India for few months, but going forward, what are my options? I doubt they will work here, or even if they do, it would be more of work from home thing, which won't provide insurance. Obamacare or any other options?
4) Filing AOS here is easier or filing it by providing their address as my home country (India) will be better/easier option?
Thank you all so much.
Thanks,

EveOcean, any update on your case?
-
congrats1
Hoping my interview notification will come soon too! (105 days and counting since the biometrics)
same.. waiting since my fingerprints,
not even in-line notification.
hate the wait. but hanging in, good luck everyone.

Congratulations everyone for getting forward with this application..
I am still stuck at background check. and was told that its just 3 months 3 weeks, still 1 month 1 week more to go until going out of the timeline..
fingers crossed, and hoping that this would be over very soon..... the longest I had waited with USCIS process.
-
I had my green card (10 years) reissued because I never received the original one (it was lost/stolen by USPS). do you think that might be the reason it's taking so long for background check?
-
You're still stuck waiting on being put in line for an interview. People have mentioned that means you're stuck in background checks and I'm assuming it hasn't even been forwarded to a local office yet. Not sure what you can do under those conditions. Did you speak with a tier 2 representative, or just the first person who answered? The first person can't see any more than you can, so they're pretty much worthless unless you don't know how to look up the information yourself.
I talked to tier 2 just now. the guy said he doesn't have information if the background check is done or not.
but he sent a message to field office asking for interview date to be scheduled. and asked me to check back again in 2-3 weeks. and he said that the office's reply might be different than what he's assuming the reply should be.
it was all confusing, but i'm keeping my finger crossed.

everytime I call, get only 1 reply that LA Office is currently at time line of Oct-2015.
so I am still under the time line.
but I see others are in same offices, and getting their case going forward quickly.
frustrating, but no choice.
any suggestions?

Looks like I am one of those who has entered the black hole of "Name Check." Was fingerprinted on Mar 24, but have not received the in-line for interview e-mail.
Anybody else in a similar position?
Any thoughts on how much longer I should wait before making inquiries?
my finger print was done on 03/15/16
still no update..
-
so much movement since last few weeks.. good to see.
i haven't heard anything after fingerprints.
this is nail biting time now.. never had to wait this long in anything related to USCIS process... ,
-
my name is still in background check with FBI...
just curious, what do they check?
-
Congratulations for your interview went well.
good luck everyone,
haven't heard anything about my in-line, no status update online. worried, but hanging in here

-
You should call them.
just talked to 2nd Tier
my case is still in background check. she said: all case is different, and sometimes they take a while in background check.
So, once I am in "in line" for interview, it'll take 2-3 months from that date?
anything to worry about?
-
Nope. There is no case status change for biometrics. Mine went from Case Received to In Line.
mine still says

There's no PIO anymore, it's only OCI. Not sure if the latest indian passport should be valid for renunciation but I think it wouldn't matter. Best to ask this question under Regional Forum: India.
Thank You so much for the information.

guys, I have indian passport, expiring in mid june this year.
do i need to renew it or should i wait for my interview and get it renewed if needed
I have applied for my US Citizenship N400 in Feb 2016. So in 4-6 months, I'll be getting US Citizenship.
also, I am not planning to travel anytime soon. so i really don't need indian passport
but do i need indian valid (non expired) passport when getting OCI or something like that?
-
If you're keeping Indian citizenship, then you likely want to renew it. My wife plans to keep her Philippine citizenship after she obtains US citizenship. A passport is one of the best proofs of your citizenship when you need it.
I am not planning to travel.
I will get Indian government's Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card, but that wouldn't give me indian passport.
not sure, when you become US citizen, do you need to give your original conuntry's passport back to them? if yes, does it need to be non-expired?

You filed in February 2016 and your GC anniversary is March 19, 2016. I guess you sent your N400 couple weeks before your GC anniversary.
but 90 days before we can submit application, was what I remember being said everywhere.
anything recently changed?
Also, havent got any updates after my fingerprints (no text/no email).
it was on 03/15.
-
what does this mean? How early I am as my GC issue date is 03/19/13
Early filing

Congrats
Thank You

After Filing Your Petition
If your parent is currently in the United States, your parent may be eligible to file Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, at the same time as you file Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative. For information on how to file this application, please refer to How Do I Become a Lawful Permanent Resident While In the United States?
You will be notified by the USCIS if your I-130 petition is approved or denied. If it is approved and your parent is outside the U.S., your parent will be notified to go to the local U.S. consulate to complete his or her visa processing. If your parent is legally inside the U.S. and did not file the Form I-485 Application concurrently with your petition, he or she may file at this time. For more information on adjusting to lawful permanent residence, your parent may refer to How Do I Become a Lawful Permanent Resident While In the United States?
