Almost 3 hours of waiting time and maybe 5 minutes in front of two consular officers and I was approved at my visa interview this morning. I had my folder of documents ready and was only asked for my passport, one picture they scanned and handed back, my birth certificate, police certificate and my husbands divorce decree. Now, where do I obsessively check the status? Thanks to all for the support and assistance.

Same (read the past few pages of this thread):

You can request for your passport to be returned. Montreal will ask for your passport back when the visa is ready to be issued. Note that this can cause additional delays.

Alternatively you can apply for a duplicate Canadian passport from Passport Canada (Assuming you are a Canadian citizen) as @ToddD is doing.

We're hopeful. The woman at the counter yesterday knew what this was, gave her the right forms to fill-out and said her travel was valid to get the temporary passport. Cost is $200 CAD. If she was flying on a vacation to a concert, or driving, it's still booked travel. She bought the tickets in March, so it's not like we just bought them and she's driving down. So far she's getting the right answers. I'll summarize the experience she has if it all works out to help others on the forum.

She is not getting a new passport but a duplicate one. The other one with the consulate would still be valid.

You can request for urgent processing for the passport showing proof of upcoming travel in the next few days and get one issued within 3 days. You would have to wait several hours in a queue at the passport office, camping out from 6am in the morning…

If I remember correctly @shocksandaunyx had the original of the divorce document missing during their interview and had to send it in after.

If you have everything MTL needs with you at the interview, they are able to process you immediately. This is probably because they alot a time for your visa processing on the day of your interview. Once you miss this window, they put your file on the back burner and move on the applicants that are interviewing next. When you submit your missing document you are still on the back burner, until MTL can find a time slot to spend reviewing these old cases…

Historically this wait has been around 45 days to 60 days. But some get lucky and get processed sooner.

Historically, rescheduling the interview is not recommended, as it is unpredictable when they would reschedule it. It ends up being several months after. I think someone waited 6 months even. But this was back when there was a 12 month backlog at MTL. Not sure anything has changed since the backlog has been eliminated. Since this only happened in Feb 2022, I don’t think this information is available, as it is unlikely anyone here that has tried rescheduling interview since then.

Unfortunately MTL not having medical results at the time of interview also causes delays of 2 weeks to 2 months (in rare cases longer).

Are you able to book a medical at one of the other doctors, in Toronto for example?

Most of us received the interview letter from NVC, NOT consulate. NVC scheduled the interview, not MTL consulate.

We did not have to schedule the appointment, we had to only register it.

If you also received your interview letter from NVC, then follow the directions in the FAQ, and you should be fine.

I do not understand what you mean by “schedule interview status.” Maybe if you could elaborate where you are seeing that, people can help.

If you were not scheduled by NVC, then that is new to us, and the FAQ may not cover the directions for you. You will find contact details on the website you have screenshotted in your posts. You are advised to contact them for directions.

Unfortunately I do think that's the case, the police certificate name matches my passport and DS-260 (I did put the maiden name under other names in DS-260 as per the instructions).

I've re-uploaded the same document with a comment to restart the NVC clock.
I did go back to the commissionaires office yesterday and ordered another one in my maiden name and will upload it to additional documents once it comes in just to cover all my bases.

I do appreciate all the quick responses & advice!

Yes only married name. As like what you said, while filing up information at RCMP she gave her previous name when not married. And on the Police certificate only her married name shown. Like others thought, you might had a not well knowledgeable NVC documents reviewee.

That's really strange and very confusing. I agree with all the advices of our friend @From_CAN_2_US.  If you stayed from other countries you have to provide police certificate as stated on this snip.

I also checked  my wife's RCMP Police Certificate and I confirm on her name was the married name and NVC accepted it.

I'm not sure what was happening now with their system. Two of our folks here posted that previously their Police Certificate was approved then after as they check their CEAC acct it shows missing. Is it possible there's a glitch on their system? I guess so. Because in my experience our documents were completely submitted (i.e. Jun 19 '21). As I was checking the Current Case review time, supposedly we were covered on the cut-off date. I called USCIS and learned our complete submitted date wasn't that what I know. Their system change it so I have to wait another weeks before NVC will review our documents.

There is nothing wrong with your police certificate. So annoying of NVC to reject it, and yes, I heard they are not taking calls right now….

    1. Check if you are not missing something on your end:
    a) you need police certificates for Canada in every name you have ever held. So if you have changed your name at any point, you will need police certificates in old and new names.
    b) check if you are missing any police certificates from other countries.

    2. If you are not missing anything, I suggest emailing NVC. There is several months backlog in them reviewing their emails.

    3. simultaneously, reupload the same police certificates on CEAC. If it is possible to put a comment somewhere on ceac, do so explaining you checked and the police certificate is correct police certificate from the relevant authority. Please clarify further about what is required etc….

edit - I just noticed my police certificate had a signature by the Director General below, just above the footer…. That was missing in the scan you shared. Make sure you upload the full page of your police certificate. If you didn’t, maybe that is the reason it was rejected.

No, unfortunately it is not unusual. When documents MTL wants are missing at the time of interview and sent to them later, it takes usually about 45 - 60 days to process and issue the visa.

You haven’t indicated what visa class you are. It is unusual for MTL to ask for petitioner’s original birth certificate for IR1/CR1 (I assumed that’s what you meant by official?) unless petitioner is the child of the applicant (IR5 visa).

I wasn’t asked for even a photocopy, but yeah, knowing MTL’s delays with any missing document, I carried any and every document with me to the interview that they could possibly ask. So I carried my Petitioner’s original birth certificate with me to the interview. But it wasn’t asked for.

Same happened to us when I uploaded the police record and it was accepted before. I uploaded it again and we still had the interview as scheduled. There was no other mention of it. My suggestion is to upload it again, assuming it is still fairly current and it will be fine.

Usually about 45-60 days. Could be shorter if you are unlucky, or longer if you are lucky. There was someone here recently who was still waiting for about 6 months, but that is extreme…

Unfortunately Montreal appears to shelve cases that have missing documents at the interview, and processes them at their own  random pace…

Finally got our interview letter. Despite being approved for an expedited interview due to a life-threatening condition by the Montreal embassy, our delays were as long if not longer than others who were not expedited. Lesson of the story: the expedited interview in Montreal is pretty much useless.

I see. AFAIK Normally expedites for interview are requested by emailing Montreal, not NVC. This is the first time I am hearing of NVC communicating an expedite approval on behalf of Montreal. When Montreal approves an expedite they schedule it for the very first slot of the very next month. In your case, you DQ’d (I think) just after interview letters were sent in April for interviews in May. So if Montreal had approved your expedite (directly) you should have been on the roster for May IL issuance (June interview). You appear to be delayed by a month, which might be because of the delay of communication from NVC to Montreal (which sucks ofcourse, but that’s how these agencies run).

Regardless, the way cases are going right now for IR1/CR1 at Montreal, there is no backlog. 7 months ago, people were waiting 12 months from DQ for an interview letter. Now it is 1 to 2 months. So expedite does not make much of a difference (if any) in current context, when people are being scheduled so quickly anyway.

Edit - I reread your post and realised MTL confirmed by email that you were on the track to expedite. If this email is from before you DQ’d then yes, it appears to be an oversight on their part. You should have interviewed in June.
