  1. Yeah, we sent our PCs in about two weeks later. What AF number are they? (Am I remembering correctly they're from an African country?)

Yep. I think early 6000's is their case number for Africa.

  2. Louza.... The agent is talking rubbish. If they sit and wait for anything further from KCC other than the interview notification they won't have anything to take to the interview. It's all on the website, now, waiting for them.. I've been through this process, I just got my visa last month!!

Well they got all their documents ready except for their Police Clearances for the country they're residing in now & the husband hasn't budged an inch to get the PC he needs from a European country which as I read on their website takes 2-6 months to be issued by their Embassy. And also the medicals haven't been done because they need their interview letter.

I read you didn't have your PC's and you sent them in, I fear in their situation the delay in obtaining the European one will mess up their chance of getting the visas in time (before they''re all exhausted).

  3. The list of documents you need to bring is on the dvselectee website (there is a link to this site in the first notification letter telling you you've won) - the site takes you through all the steps from selection to interview. This site also has links to country-specific requirements. Make sure you read this very carefully. Ideally, you should be getting all your civil documents together already with the exception of (1) police certificates as these usually have an expiry date (differs by country but most are 6 months) and (2) medicals, which you usually can only book once you have your interview notification.

Don't know if you remember but you & I had a lengthy discussion about my SIL's case and I believe that's what their agent told them...KCC will notify them about the documents needed. ClockWatch2.gif

  4. If you want confirmation you have to send them an email to ask. Be sure to include your full name, d.o.b (mm-dd-yyyy format) and case number. Your interview notification will be on the same website you checked your lottery entry, but you'll get an email from them telling you that's been updated, probably a day or so after the visa bulletin when your number becomes current has been published.

In this email they send do they also tell you which documents to bring with you at the interview?

  5. I don't think there's a deadline as to when you submit just as long as it's before September 2014 (when interviewing stops) but the sooner you do the better of course. As for the DS-230 I guess in the Occupation slot you can put "Student" as for your other question yes you should put Polytechnic since you're still studying there. As far as I remember they ask you about the time frame of your studies so for example if you started in 2010 your answer would be 2010 to Present.

  6. Hello all,

I know that interviews for DV2014 winners start in October of this year but regarding the selectees that have to go through the Cairo Embassy won't the problem of the embassys' closure affect them? I assume the already scheduled interviews have to be rescheduled not to mention the scheduling of other IV applicants that already had their cases completed by NVC and mailed to Cairo to await interview dates...all this I presume will cause further delays on wait times.

Will the cases of DV2014 applicants be transferred to another country or do they just have to wait until things in Egypt settle down and the Cairo Embassy reopens?

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Ever considered hiring a lawyer in the country where they need the police certificate from (may need to provide power of attorney to have them do this on your behalf and perhaps copies of your IDs or entry visas for that country) and also having the lawyer get the certificate translated into English and DHL /FedExing all to your relatives in Egypt? Shouldn't be more than cost of police certificates+ cost of translation + couple of hours of lawyer time chasing up the certificates...

I don't think they thought of that but I believe his residency permit expired 2 years ago, so maybe he won't be able to hire an attorney? Not sure how things work in that country.

Plus I think he's afraid of something showing up in his PC because he seems very reluctant to even discuss the subject. Could there be a charge for someone not paying child support in Europe? (Generally speaking of course).

  8. If he is faking employment he is probably trying for HS plus experience in an O profession. I would fire the agent personally

I'd kill the agent not fire him.

Well their agent is talking rubbish. There is a website that explains all the documents you need dvselectee.state.gov including country-specific info - they won't get a separate notification unless there is something peculiar to their case, and then I assume it would arise during interview or AP and not come from KCC. As for the high school certificate, some consulates insist on seeing it even if the person has university degrees so she needs to find out what the Cairo embassy usually asks for.

Police clearance is an issue if you get them too early, because they expire - the time to expiry varies between countries, so if you get it too early it may expire before interview and then you need another one.

I checked that website a few days ago and read the PC section so I know for the fact that they'll need it. For the European country it's valid 3 months only and is NOT issued in English, so the second issue they're facing is getting it translated. I mentioned in a previous post it takes anywhere from 2 to 6 months for official documents to be issued to those residing abroad from that country.

They'll go to the interview and be asked for that particular PC and they won't have it.

I have a bad feeling about all this.

  9. Ok they'll be sending their documents on Monday. What happens after KCC receives the forms? I asked her what the Agent said about the European police clearance this morning and he told her KCC will notify them of the required documents. I nearly broke my cell phone in my hand....seriously dude you're just screwing them over because they won't have time to do it!!!

He's also grilling her about her high school certificate, she misplaced it and is finding a hard time obtaining another one. If she has both Bachelors and Masters Degrees, why on earth would she need her high school cert? You obviously can't go to college without graduating from high school :/

    ETA: Thanks for the links!

  10. Agree, but if your SIL takes the option to get her visa while her husband goes through AP and he gets found out in AP, hers will be revoked.

But wouldn't the visa be stamped already on her passport? Excuse my ignorance but I've always assumed once that visa is in the passport nothing can take that away since all the checks/clearances would have been completed.

  11. I don't know for certain but I would think the whole family would be delayed/denied/whatever as a matter of course if there is something wrong with one of the applications.

Also no idea about the background checks actually re when they are done, or whether they are done from KCC or the country of interview. I do however think they will be more thorough with an immigrant visa application than a tourist visa one, so getting away with a lie on a tourist visa will probably be easier than an immigrant visa. (An obvious example is the tourist visa you just answer questions about criminal records but immigrant you have to produce police certificates)

Sorry, did you mention the country they are from? There are also some countries where they often get put into "administrative processing", I think some where they are automatically done, and I believe part of this then includes very detailed background checks. And on this there have been reports of people staying in AP so long that they miss out on their visas because it goes past the end of the fiscal year.

They're Sudanese residing in Egypt. Sudanese immigrant applicants go through the US Embassy in Cairo. I went through there and although my experience was ok I don't recall anything weird happening on my day. Most of us were spousal visas that were pretty straightforward but I know most men generally get put on AP in Cairo. Background checks like you said will be more extensive after what happened in Boston. I think the Tsarnaevs came here as immigrants. I doubt they'll get visas but who knows they might be lucky :/

  12. Re your last question, I don't think so - someone on another forum posted about being at the consulate and overhearing a case, actually similar now that I think of it, where the spouse had not declared two children from a previous marriage and the family as a whole was denied. She would I guess have to divorce him before the interview and remove him from her derivatives list for that to happen.

The reason I ask is because I don't think the husband will be able to get his police clearance from the European country in time for their interview. They have a low number, I predict the interview will be at the end of this year & it takes that particular country anywhere from 2 to 6 months to issue documents to people abroad. If they're serious they should start with that process now. So what I'm trying to ask is if all the documents are present with the exception of his PC will this cause the delay just for him or the entire family? That's assuming they don't get found out.

Even if she is the principle applicant ( winner) and it is her education that will qualify the family if the submitted package contains falsehoods that she is attesting to she will also be banned. The one case I could see one getting a visa and not the other is a medical or disclosed criminal exclusion. As for the visitors visa , it is a common myth that if you claim to be travelling without your spouse you are more apt to get a visitors visa. So if he applied before his current relationship I would almost bet that he mentioned it. And they have records of all applications and the background checks will see if his name appeared on any of them and what he claimed for marital status. The question is actually on the DS 160 form he would have filled in .

If they know this they will allow the family to appear for the interview and present the conflict of facts then issue them a permanent ban from the US.

Background checks can take 3-4 months and frequently include field investigator poking about

When he came to the USA he was married to the principal applicant so I'm pretty sure he put married as his answer. Their agent is making her falsify employment papers, telling her private tutor isn't a good idea to write. The woman is qualified with her education she can use that but no he has to dig a bigger hole for them o.O

This guy must have gotten away with this before because his confidence where lying is concerned is alarming.

Regarding background checks on DV applicants, they happen after the initial step of submitting their forms to KCC, correct? With interviews starting in October it doesn't really seem like a long time to check up on the selectees.

  13. it seems as though even after a Reaffirmation of a petition we still go thru AP' This is what i get in an email this morning:

Please note that we have already received the NVC response on your case, however your case is currently undergoing mandatory administrative processing. The time needed to review an individuals case is difficult to predict. Once this process is completed, we will process your case to conclusion.

    Consular Section

    U.S. Embassy, Cairo

    MO

Please anyone who is dealing with the embassy in cairo and has been thru this, send me your advice please. i feel the answers i get are vague!

Urgh that MO person is useless with his/her vague responses. I stopped emailing because of them and I got my visa when I least expected it.

It's a waiting game I'm afraid, good luck and keep the faith.

  14. He was paid upfront...no surprises there huh? Although the form clearly states the warning I guess they're choosing to overlook it. Who knows, after all this immigration might not pick up on it and they find themselves with visas :/

Speaking of which..is it possible for SIL and kids to get visas while her husband is denied? Not sure how it works for DVs.
