I applied for my first US Passport on 21st march with regular processing fee.i received my passport on 25th July 2020.i am still waiting to get my original Naturalization certificate back.i will update as soon I will get it back

Yeah - I applied mine on February 2020 and received it 4 months later. I received my nat cert 2 days after I received my passport.

  2. My marriage is not recognized in Malaysia because I did not register to the Malaysian gov when I got married. When I renewed my Malaysian passport last 2 years via mail, they didn't require my Green Card (which is in my married name). I was surprised with the (lack of) requirement but I was more than happy to not send a copy of my GC. It got renewed fine and was mailed to me in 2 months.

Later this year I found out that the mail-in option is no longer applicable. you'd need to appear in person to renew unfortunately.

  3. I did 99.99% of my visa paperwork myself. All I needed from him was some documents from his employer and his signature. I wrote whatever that I needed from him in very specific details.  I've been managing my immigration journey on my own since 2012 when I started my K-1 journey until my naturalization. After each submission, I would explain to him what was done and what is to be expected. We didn't have to go for an I-751 interview (was waived) so he didn't have to deal with any of the USCIS folks in person 😅 But he was there with me to every visit to the USCIS (I had to make several trips for something)

But as to settle your argument - like what the others said, no, visa interviews are not like job interviews. They ask specific questions, you answer truthfully and be concise about it. They don't really give you much room to ask questions - at least from my experience. They're not usually very chatty, they just want to see that you're not fraudulent. So the more you say, the more they'll scrutinize you if you accidentally blurb something.

You have to create an account first and then apply online. You have to be conditionally approved first before you can schedule for an interview.

I already have been approved and received the card. it expires in a couple of years but its tied to my Green Card. I need them to remove my green card and add passport instead.

  5. So here's what they told us during my oath ceremony on 2/18 since we missed the due date to register to vote for the primary:

    1) You can go for Early Voting. You will register to vote there (so you don't have to register during the Oath ceremony), or -

    2) You can register to vote during the oath ceremony and will be able to vote on Nov. You will unfortunately miss the primaries though.

But either way, you cannot register to vote until you've taken your oath. You are still not considered a US citizen before the oath.

I was one of those people that got their interview really fast (just 2 months after application).

I just assumed that it's because I didn't not have pending I-751, I have a 10-year green card and a really uncomplicated case with plenty of evidence, no previous marriages, no children, very co-mingled finances and a 9-year relationship history.

    Same here.

I have the same situation as you, no pending I-751 with a 10-yr green card, no previous marriages, no children, no dependent, etc. Could also be my field office doesn't get a lot of applications? I dunno. I'd think these reasons *might* have contributed to the timeline - if not, then I have no clue why.

My oath ceremony was also scheduled ahead of time, maybe because I didn't need a judicial ceremony since I'm not changing my name.

hi, you will have to go to a Global Entry enrollment center to have them delete your GC and add your US passport as the primary ID document.

GE offices do this change on a walk in basis, no appointment needed, except apparently for the NY Bowling Green one. I did mine at JFK airport.

Although other changes to your profile can be made on the trusted traveler website, GC to US Passport is considered a significant change that only a GE center can do in person.

    I hope this is helpful.

So my N400 went faster than what was estimated and I am now a US citizen.

Did you have to fill out any application before going to the GE enrollment center to have them add your passport?

    Hi,

So, I've been working on my N-400 Form today and upon review of the file the whole line of questions on uscis.gov produces I recognize a lot of sloppy errors.

Like the travel section is not ordered as per instruction on the form (but it was put in properly on their website). There are also odd inconsistent stuff. Like, I am asked if I am married. Then it asks if I had prior marriages. On the form it properly shows up as 1 (married, currently). Now when I fill out the spouse section, they ask if they had been married before. The answer is no. On the form it showcases a 0, even though it should be 1, since it's the exact wording as to my marriage status.

So I am puzzled. On one hand it seems super convenient to file online. On the other hand, applying with a sloppy file is really distressing

Has anyone seen these issues as well?

I filed online too and it registered my husband's marriage as 0, but was corrected during the interview. The IO explained to me of what he's correcting and what it should be. He corrected it to 1 - since he's married to me. No biggie, was still approved.

Hi all! Just looking for someone general understanding on timing for the process. N-400 was submitted in October and biometrics were done in November. Online, it says estimated complete date June 2020 and wait time (as of today) 4 months.

What all will happen next? I understand it sounds like we will get a letter with an appointment? Are the appointments usually scheduled close to the date the letter is sent?

Our birthdays are towards the end of April and we always celebrate abroad at my husband's home country with a two week trip. I'm worried the timing is going to cut it too close because while it says case completed June 2020, it also just says 4 months for action. Anyone know anything about how accurate the timing is online and just more clarity on what will happen next?

    Thank you!

I submitted on Oct and completed biometrics on Nov too.

Below is my timeline. You can see when they sent the interview letter vs the interview day itself.

It also used to say case completion was May 2020 but I don't see that on my online account anymore.

    1. I think they'll ask 10 questions out of the 100 civic questions and will stop at 6 if you got them all correct. You don't need a tablet for this. The IO will read these questions to you while s/he updates your progress on his/her screen.
    2. The reading test is just a short sentence which you will read from the tablet. Mine was "Do you know who can vote?"
    3. As for the written test, this is also randomize (I'd assume so since mine doesn't really answer to the above question) and you'd be writing it on the same tablet with a stylus. Mine was "Delaware was the first state".  You'd be requested to print it out/write legibly
    4. You'll also get asked the "Yes/No" questions on your application. Sometimes they'd stop and ask if you know the meaning of a certain word/phrase. My IO stopped at the last question something about natural disasters and asked if I understand what that means.
    5. Throughout your whole conversation with the IO, s/he will judge your ability to speak and understnd English - small talks won't hurt. My IO was really friendly and reassuring when I told him I was nervous.

    Thank you!

Almost exactly two weeks. The lady who interviewed me said that the official range is 60 days from the date of the interview, but a lot of people get it faster (which is true in my case).

I can see the oath ceremony letter on the documents tab now and my ceremony is going to be on March 19.

    Thanks!

I just checked my status online and they've already scheduled me for my ceremony on Feb 18!

My interview was on 1/28 and I got the notification about my oath ceremony on 1/29. They're moving pretty fast

    Hi Everyone!

I am just doing my due diligence as my window for early filing of N-400 opens up in about 2 months time and I am starting to accumulate the necessary documentation.  I am wanting to apply online under the 3-yr marriage rule.

My question is - when applying online, are proof of relationship photos required?  This is the first time filing something to USCIS where evidence of continuing relationship (besides mortgage info, tax info and bills) don't seem to be a big requirement.

Also, has anyone recently filed N-400 online with their ROC still pending?  I have already completed my biometrics (2 months ago) and just waiting now.  Just wondering how they handle both applications in the system.

    Thank you!

I applied under the 3-year marriage rule online.

I didn't frontload my N400 application apart from what they've requested. Maybe I added 1 or 2 extra docs that would support our marriage financially - and anything that would show we are still married and we live in the same house (like a mortgage statement, and my county's tax letter that had both of our names, but definitely no photos of us together or any of that sort.

During the interview, my IO only requested to see my DL, my GC, my foreign passport, and since I had my husband's US passport with me, he wanted to see that as well, and that's about it. He didn't want to see anything else, not even the original documents that I submitted.

Did you look at the general VJ timelines too?

I’m pretty sure processing has slowed down. September fillers for Charlotte were getting an interview date around 2 months (scheduled at 3 months).

Well... 3 months in and nothing yet.

I hope you're getting yours soon, I'm in Charlotte, it was estimated that my case would complete in 6 months, but I just had my interview today - which is about 3 months since I submitted.

  13. Just sat for my interview today and was approved. I just can't believe my journey since 2012 (since I petitioned for a fiance visa) is about to end soon!

Now just waiting for the Oath Ceremony to be scheduled.

I've updated my timeline here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xuSY_XT6-bZuCLk8_Y5EQND7g-XzZveiDQdlpZojBLg/edit#gid=0

Interview itself was pretty breezy, I panicked for no reason.

  14. Yeah I got a text saying an "we have taken an action on your case and it needs your attention". I thought it was something wrong with my application (I'm a worry wart), but it was just letting me know that they have scheduled my biometrics.

I can only see the receipt notice in the "Documents" tab, so I'm going to wait for a while.

Question: We will STILL receive all corresponding letters via mail even if we submitted online right?

  15. I know I'm thinking waaaay ahead, but anyone knows what happens to my Global Entry once my N400 has been approved?

My N400 is expected to be completed on May 2020, and I already have a Global Entry (tied to my Green Card). I'd still have 3+ years left.

I probably should worry about this ONCE I have a US Passport.....but I'm a masochist. I like to stress myself out way before. 😑

  16. USCIS just received my application on 10/29 after a weekend of "Your application has not been submitted, although we have received your payment, please call us blah blah blah" 😑 They apparently had a system issue over the weekend.

Based on 3-year rule (married a US citizen). I waited for almost a year to file my N400 because...I don't remember why. I had a valid reason I swear 😆

Estimated case completion May 2020 😫

Life of an immigrant - always be waiting on USCIS 😶

  17. Yup guys. Things are working now. This is what my status online says:

    We received your application

You submitted your application on October 29, 2019

We will begin reviewing your application by conducting a background check in order to identify any issues that need to be addressed. We will schedule a biometrics appointment to collect your fingerprints. We will also review your application to make sure you have submitted all of the required information and documentation
