  1. oH.... But I received a letter from USEM and they said they have my visa issued to me last November 5, 2012, but its not on 2go yet..... I dont understand....

It is probably issued but it has not been released to 2go. Once you see the package, USEM takes time packing it. Call 2go tomorrow. FYI. USEM does its shipment of the visas after 4:00 p.m. (PHL time). Call at that time.

  2. I am working with St. Raphael to get ticket right now. Look for Tessa. As Dan mentioned, I saved money on the travel tax of 1620 pesos which is about 38 dollars. Be careful of the hidden fee. For example, if you remit money directly to their account, there is a local bank fee of $7.00. If you pay in cash (pesos), ask them for the daily exchange rate first before making the deposit. Of course there is a deadline for any reservations. Overall, Tessa is pretty nice and responsive.

  3. What number you put in there..your passport number or mnl caese number?

Use the UID first or a specific number 2Go gives you. The passport number and the MNL gives me others info. If they are invalid, USEM has not released your passport yet. Congrats!

  4. Thanks. the yellow packet' upper left corner is open and it exposes the passport number. The tear seem be to be purposefully to reveal the passport number. Is that normal? What is the registration fee? I know the counseling has a 400 pesos fee, but is there a registration fee for the actual sticker?

  5. Whenever I go to the Philippines, I bring a laptop for work, two cellphones (globe and smart), a digital camera, and a tablet. There had three phones as gifts too. Never questioned. I read somewhere when boarding the plane that it is all good as long as it is personal use. Nowadays, it is common even in the Philippines to have multiple electronics.

BUT If you are planning to sell 10 iphones and all of them are in unwrapped boxes, then you may be questioned and pay the appropriate taxes. What I did for the three phones is I wrapped them in Christmas wrappings. I kept them in unwrapped boxes, but it kinda sucks when the recipient only gets the phone.

  6. i think i'll jump in & give my 2 cents worth

when i went to the the province for the 1st time to meet my wifes family

i got dad a 1/2 gallon of JD (i also wraped it up in bubble wrap TWICE & then built a plywood box for it to go into)

even if the man doesn't drink (most do) he will put it up on a shelf so everyone who enters the house can see it

having a huge bottle of american whiskey over there is a really big deal!!!

for mom i stopped in the local town while on the way to the family house & got her a 50 kilo sack of rice (about 115 lbs)

please understand that MANY people in the Philippines skip meals often (welcome to the 3rd world)

by taking the time to buy them a whole sack of rice you are showing them that you care (you will make big points rite from the start)

i think i got the brothers & sisters cheep body wash & stuff like that from walmart

oh i think i also layed out $14.99 for a fixed blade knife for dad on that trip

i played hell finding a knife that was made in the U.S. at the store

most were made in China which they can just buy there

    good luck

    piglett

If it is a knife, just buy it on ebay or amazon. at least in my case, the preference was swiss army knife for $14.99. It turns out to be really handy during blackouts.

  7. I typically do not say hi to others on the street. I live in LA after all. It's more of a safety reason than being friendly. It's kind of mind your own business type of thing. In other parts of the country where my relatives live, the Filipino population is so small that they tend to know each other and say hi to each other. That's a culture shock to me because I am not used to greeting people.

  8. Five for $10 t-shirts seem to be a hit in my case. Chocolates are also nice for the kids. Take advantage of the after-Halloween candy sale :). Remember, the moment you brought them something is already considered thoughtful. Your girl will love you even more for that.
