  1. 10080 pesos (for the $42.00/pesos exchange rate) for the visa. I was annoyed because I followed the 42.00/peso rate. You are supposed to pay 9380.70, but they ask for 9589 pesos. I don't know how they calculate the exchange rate. Even if you put the rate $41.00/peso, it is less than 9380. Someone at St. Lukes is getting the extra change.

When my fiancee paid for her, she paid 9590 pesos. I got mad and said I want my one peso back.

  2. The cargo forwarders complain that the biggest hold on the boxes is PHL customs.

I know someone who had a problem with Manila Forwarder. She was heading back to the PHL and she had a couple of extra balikbayan boxes. She sent them through the company. She hoped to open the box while she was there. When she opened the boxes, they were lighter than usual and several things were missing: Canned goods, a couple of shirts, and a shoe. She just realized it because the way the stuff was folded is not her style of folding. I guess customs opened the back. The recipients usually do not think about it because the family is just excited to receive the box. I strongly suggest that you have your family member do a full inventory of what you sent them just in case.

  3. Lolz. I would include Fedex for the I-134 and probably other requirements that your dad may need. I spent around $148 dollars, but that included a ton of paperwork. Like any budget, I would add some cushion for emergencies and miscellaneous expenses. For example, my fiancee is running around now to get an annoying medical certificate. The cost is outside what we initially anticipated.

By the way, Cebu is an international airport and there are PAL and other airlines that fly to the US. That may save you some cash.

  4. @ Hank: I love the art

But it's true. My fiancee never received anything. Follow Hank's advice. Once you have MNL#, you can do the rest as long as your fiance/e has the MNL# and a copy of the NOA2 or the NVC letter. I did not even wait for the NVC letter. I called the USCIS after 5 days and they already shipped our file to the USEM. Our file took a week for the USEM to receive it, but I am not so sure if what courier they use though.

    Congratulations by the way.

  5. @tin and mike. I tell myself that. It is a mad rush since I really want her in the US for Christmas. We also have our interview on 10/25/12. If this is not resolve by monday, I may have to reschedule. Good thing that I was reading the forums and made my fiancee go earlier to the medical than planned.

  6. yes, TB is prevalent in the Philippines because many do not seek medical treatment. It is expensive after all.

Once I have the medical certificate, do I give the original or the copy to St. Lukes? Good news is we found another doctor. If the medical exam gets taken care this week, I do not have to reschedule. I just hope that 5 days prior to the interview is enough for St. Lukes to deliver the results to the USEM.

I wish you luck with your mom. One thing for sure, I know my fiancee's condition a lot more than before.

  7. I definitely understand where St. Lukes is coming from regarding our situation. In your case, was x ray done before the sputum? I think St. Lukes sometimes skip steps. There's another thread with a child. St. Lukes acknowledged the skin test, but not the x ray? I am not sure why.

  8. ^^^ This...

Then she will pass her interview and you two will be together again! :)

Thanks Tahoma. My over preparing self did not see the medical certificate. Her doctor is out on some conference until after the interview date. So I am so frustrated.

  9. My fiancee's medical exam was not completed. The physician is requiring her to get a medical certificate. For privacy's sake, I will keep the health reason a secret, but it is definitely not contagious and something she has to live her life. Can someone give me more on the medical certificate and what will we happen next?

  10. Oops..Obsessive-Compulsive (OC). I have the OC syndrome when it comes to schedule, instructions, planning, preparation and execution. I guess it goes with being a researcher. I have carried it over to the entire immigration process, hence, the attitude about being prepared for the medical. I'm like this  about processes. Glad my husband doesn't mind.

LOl. I like like that too, but my cheapness prevents me from doing what you are planning to do. Just go with the flow on this one.

  11. If you are not in a hurry (e.g., your interview is weeks away), you can just talk to St. Lukes about spreading out the shots if you are not comfortable with taking them all at once. You are probably not the first person who has this issue. Call St. Lukes ahead of time and ask if they are willing to spread out the shots if necessary. If not, then you can ask the Antibody Titer Test.

I don't know how much the test costs, but St. Lukes may very well do the Antibody Titer test as part of the blood test. I would just hate for the OP to duplicate the work that St. Lukes will do anyway.

  12. hahaha that makes me laugh no they don't, actually its more on what will you do if your hubby/fiance is abusive.. pretty random.. and about the NBI - when your fiancee get her NBI Clearance its two copy .. one is your own copy .. where it said "personal copy" and other one is the one that you will give when ur fiance have her interview.. anyways they will return your fiance's NBI when she finish her pdos and turn over her pink i.d. on the front desk.

Thanks Cath! One thread said they were to taught to how to use the washing machine. lolz. CFO seems more harmless than meets the eye and still have a purpose in preventing possible abuse, etc.

  13. Hubby Bunny - Great CFO review. Did they teach how to use the washing machine? lolz. I read that from another review. My fiance only has one original NBI clearance which is meant for the interview. Does she have to get another original copy?

  14. Like Tahoma said, don't look into the stats too much. You will end up frustrated. Just keep doing what you are currently doing. Next thing you know the NOA2 is in the mail. If you want to do something, plan for the next steps of the process (I-134s, evidence of genuine relationship, etc.) or plan for the wedding, so you are not scrambling too much as soon as the NOA2 arrives...
