Congrats on the 3 recent approvals this week! Please consider updating others on the list as well when updating yourself. Calygirl75's approval is missing on the last tracker update. Also, please don't forget to update the number of approvals and percentages. This helps September and other month filers to accurately track your progress! Thank you for all the hard work in updating and congrats again!

  2. Yikes. I emailed the mexican, washington dc, and canadian locals with this question yesterday. asking for alternatives. we shall see what happens. the phone numbers as many can attest in this forum are useless. emails are hit or miss. i did see this posting where it mentions an agency through the DR that is handling these passport extensions for a fee. hmmmmm. seems sketchy.

thanks for the feedback. i'll keep researching, see what I can find out.

  3. How are cuban nationals renewing (Prorroga de Pasaporte) passports while residing in the US? Are you having to send it to another country? Mexico, Canada, or even Cuba? Just wondering if anyone recently had their passport expire and has been able to figure out what to do about since the office in D.C. is not processing any requests at this time.

    Thanks.

  4. Hello! My husband has been in the US with me since last November 2013. (He has a GC with conditions at this point since we applied via a CR1. So we do not have anything pending with the USCIS until we apply for Removal of Conditions in late 2015). He applied for a job and accepted a position in another state. Yay! I didn't want to quit my job until he has passed his probationary period (3 months). So we flew into the new city, secured an apartment, and I flew back down to our home here in FL for now.

Question: Does he have to fill out an AR-11 at this point? His official residence is our home here in FL. But he is temporarily at another location working. If he becomes a permanent employee, then I will follow.

I checked out the form and there is no place to inform the USCIS that his new temporary residence is a X location but his mailing address (the most stable one) remains in FL.

We want to make sure we are complying but just aren't clear on what the USCIS consider "Change of Adress".

    Thanks.

  5. Yikes, good tip for those out there translating foreign issued documents to the USCIS. if you choose to translate, make sure they are authorized to translate or notarize in the US.

Even though you are double checking in Cuba about valid issued documents "para surgir effecto en"... you should escalate your call within the USCIS in order to provide more clarity if they are refering to all foreign issued documents that you submitted in your packet or if its one in particular that is not meeting their requirements. Just to be clear.

For example: I submitted our cuban issued marriage certificate to the USCIS which had the proper stamps/sellos to be used abroad. However, my husband's birth certificate was issued by his hometown's registrar's office. this official document was submitted in my I-130 pakcet and was accepted by the USCIS without requesting other legalities/stamps/seals, etc.

  6. wait.. if I file for by Cuban a k1 visa I have to have the documents translated to spanish?? His birth certificate of course will be in spanish since he is the cuban but my documents are american issued and will not be in spanish. Do they need to be in spanish?

    Please say no..

No worries. Your submital for the K1 is to the USCIS, therefore your US issued documents will be in english as they should be. No need to translate to any other language. :)

  7. By the way, I'm not sure why a Tier 2 person told you that you need to "certify the translation". If your interview is in Havana and your documents are in spanish you won't have a problem. Like you, I took it a step further and translated my husband's birth certificate and our marriage certificate then went to a notary who stamped my translations as well as my statement that this was an accurate translation. This was accepted by the USCIS. hopefully others in this forum that have submitted documents to the USCIS for Cuban relatives can chime in and share their results. me thinks something is amiss here. :)

  8. Sorry to hear you hit a snag.

I submitted my marriage certificate that was issued in Cuba to the USCIS. The document that issued in Cuba has to have language that states "para surtir efecto en" and then the proper authorities need to add their official seal and stamp to it. This cannot be done in the US, it has to be done in Cuba and your cuban relatives need to buy los "sellos". I would have them go back to the office that issued these documents and tell them that the documents that they are issuing need to be issued so that they "surtir effect en el extranjero". They should have told you this at the time issue if they knew they were to be used outside of Cuba. Good luck.

  9. He resides in FL, so we had to down load a form for the California DMV (request for driving record) and mailed it in. He resided in CA at the time and had his license issued by that state. We shall see. So far so good. He sent in his form/packet in Oct 2013 got his biometrics done late December 2013 and was given a March 2014 interview date. good.gif thanks for chiming in. it helps to hear other opinions.

Either way, I've advised him to bring in a copy of his request for information just in case he hasnt received this info before his interview. at least he can say that he requested the info and that this is pending.

  10. Has anyone had this happen? my brother in law disclosed on question 10 D. #16 Have you ever been arrested, cited, or detained by any law enforcement officer for any reason?

He included 2 traffic violations where he was cited:

Cited: Speeding Ticket (Date) (City, State) Outcome: PAID CITATION FINE

Cited: Red Light Ticket (Date) (City, State) Outcome: PAID FINE;TRAFFIC SCHOOL

This question was also submitted by another person we know that submitted his N400 form. He never got a "yellow notice" in the mail. BUT My brother in law did and now he has requested his DMW driving record in the state which issued these 2 tickets. He has an interview/test appointment next month in March. I'm freaking out. What if he doesn't get his drivers record back in time for this appointment? I mean could this delay the entire process? Really? a speeding ticket? 10+ years ago?

Any feedback would be valuable. Not sure what to tell him. other than to cross his fingers.

  11. What a quagmire! Unfortunately with AP, you are held to their timeframe not yours. Sarah is right about the expenses you will face once he arrives.

My husband and I went the CR1 route. We married in Havana Nov 2012 abd he arrived late Nov 2013. It took a little over a month for him to get his greencard, SSN, and driver's license. This requires less wait time (if all goes well) to get them up and running in the states once they arrive. He is now pursuing medical re-certification and working odd jobs in the process, etc. But still it can be difficult if you don't have a cushion to fall back on.

I at one point thought about relocating to Havana and work remotely. Attempted to connect to the home office via my laptop etc. The landline was horrific. It's a lovely city but the infrastructure can really make that option an interesting journey. If you can find a creative way to make a living while you wait for his visa, why not! I wish you well!

  12. Congrats, Jughead and Calygirl75! That's great news!

    Thanks!

I've learned through the postings that it is never clear cut with the USCIS updates.

For instance you never saw a tracking number, but just like Jughead - I logged in to the USCIS portal this morning and the message read: "The USPS reported that they picked up mail from USCIS containing your new card on January 3, 2014. The USPS tracking number assigned is xxxxxxxxxx. You can use this number at www.usps.com to view updates to the delivery status of your mail." (Priority Mail 2-Day)

So I'm posting it, if it helps others out there that haven't received their cards and are wondering about the ELIS site. Hope it helps.

  13. New update via uscis.gov case status tracker says USPS received mail from USCIS containing my wife's card on Jan 4 and it provides the tracking number. USPS shows it's currently in NYC so we should have it any day now.

    good.gif Awesome.

Hopefully its 2 day priority mail and of course the whole... "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" bit would come in handy.
