  1. My friend and her husband took a trip back to Morocco with a layover in Canada before flying overseas. Canada appears to have some wierd rules that caused them to miss their flight while her husband (green card holder in US) had to decide whether to 1)Apply for a Canadian visa to pass through or 2) Sign some waiver that they just wanted to get out of the country ASAP.

Other than that-- my husband just took whatever airline was cheaper to come here with layovers in varied European countries.

  2. We have a number of threads in the MENA forum dedicated to Cairo AP... Wait times are often extensive at this time. We had no additional paperwork needed--just AP, just because. We are hoping to see this end in the next couple weeks. Our AP started April 3, 2013. My signature has our dates /timeline on it.

  3. GC type is based on when the person becomes a LPR. For a CR-1 that happens when the person enters the US. The visa type will be CR-1 (because he is getting it before 2 years of marriage) but if he enters after your 2 year anniversary of being married, he can point out at the border that he should get a 10-year card.

It's really not worth your time calling USCIS to talk to a call center person for answers.

LOL!! You know, I began to notice that myself in just one night. I thought I understood until I talked to them and they confused me.

I think we can survive an extra month apart for the sake of not dealing with USCIS again and for the sake of not giving them any more money. The earliest I would expect DH is mid February anyways. If i understand the VJ experts, maybe DH can arrive ON our anniversary so we may spend it together, but not a moment sooner and we will be qualified for a 10yr.

So I can pass on the information to DH-- at which point (or who) is it exactly that he will need to point out the 10year vs 2year ? And does he need to have the marriage certificate handy at that point to prove it?

  4. Hi all, I could use some advice since USCIS gave me 2 different answers. I was sure the one lady was wrong. She told me that we will be given a conditional green card no matter what- no matter how long we've been married, until the spouse has been a permanent resident for 3 years.

So- I called back. I ask the guy who disappears to "get the information."

I forgot what he first said but it was wrong from what I could tell.
I said "so the information on the website is wrong?"
I read it to him, and then he asked "did you get that directly off our official website?"
    I said, "yes."

So then he tells me that "yes if DH gets his CR1 immigration visa stamped in his passport before our 2 year anniversary we will get a conditional green card."
I asked "So it doesn't matter when he makes his entry- it depends on when the visa is approved?"
    He said, "yes."

So please friends, What is the truth?

Our AP will be considered complete once we return the new police report, TB test, and passport. Unfortunately we have DH passport tied up with the Belgium Embassy for visa approval right up until DH (beneficiary) will be departing for Europe for our family vacation. This means we will not be able to complete our AP until he returns to Egypt in mid-January. That is 7 weeks from our 2 year anniversary.

Please advise if we will need to prolong the visa approval for an additional 7 weeks to avoid a conditional green card. Or, do we need to just delay his US entry until after 2 year anniversary (March 9)?

Thanks in advance. I hope this is understandable. I am confused! Please ask if I need to elaborate or clarify my query.

  5. Thank you so much for well wishes, prayers, advice and all VJ.

Yes, I'm happy and still a bit in disbelief. I have calmed down a bit-- as much as I can. Maybe now I am letting myself start to miss my spouse and feel emotion again. When it gets to this long I think survival depends on being able to tuck some of the emotion away so it doesn't eat at you and hurt you so much. Is this denial? or suppression? Probably so, but its time to take down that wall and get excited!!!! Alhamdulillah.

I am researching the lifting of conditions/permanent green card now so I can make a rational decision after he returns from Egypt. Belgium has officially commandeered the passport until its time for DH to depart so as dumb as it sounds... we will not be getting our visa for another 2 months for our own fault!

  6. 5 months and 6 days AP . alwyes same Email same message . but I want to ask if I can ask for my passport because I want to travel somewhere else and I need it . if I asked them for my passport it that mean they will cancel my case or it's ok till the AP finsh ? thanks

Yep they said no problem with returning it. They return it very quickly from request.

  7. LOL...so I still have no idea who and where to send documents to other than by dhl to the embassy. Thank God for VJ and mena peeps who will help sort me out.

I would send another email but the smartass in me is just itching to do the writing :P prolly should lock her away for 2 more months.

    Question:

Now we've made it this far and will be spending a month together soon. Do we wait it out until the first week of March to make his entry so we are passed the 2yr anniversary? Tough choice...

  8. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWD I HATE THIS CONSULATE-- at least the email answer-er. A7l-- Its almost over.

This is the detailed explanation copy and pasted from my email. This is how they answer questions there. :/

I would appreciate a detailed explanation of what we do from here.

    1) How do we deliver updated documents and passport? Via DHL
    2) How long will it take to finish the final processing of the CR1 visa?We cannot predicate the time frame.
    3) My husband departs on Dec. 13, 2013 for England for a 1 month stay. What is your advice on our next steps? Should be in US before the expiration date of his immigrant visa.
    4) Is there a way to speak to someone in real time by telephone either at the Consulate Cairo, or US DoS? If so, can you please give me the phone numbers?no,calls all concerns have to addressed to this email address.

  9. I'd like to see if they can get it done ASAP but it will be difficult with him having another embassy interview in the next few days-- they may hold his passport. As God wills, thus it will be. We may be able to rush it but we can't do anything that will risk him missing his flight. We may have to wait the 2 months... which at least 1 month we'll be together (isA)

Is it possible to file a formal expedite at this point? Who could I talk to in order to make sure we will have the passport in hand the week of the trip?

  10. I am afraid to be happy-- 8 months of AP... hard to believe if its really over. Alhamdulillah for this and all things we have been blessed with. Its just so idk... overwhelming-- all of it.

DH already has plane tickets to be in England/Europe for 1 month on Dec. 13. I wonder if we can get his visa/TB/PR back to them, and then back to us in time for him to depart for UK. He has an interview for a UK visa in 4 days, insha'Allah.

This will be a bit complicated.

  11. Please see this for my current predicament: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/465922-consulate-issues-related-to-end-of-ap/

To sum it up, I don't know whether to laugh, cry, shout, cheer, or punch somebody right now. Why the mind games Cairo? Why can't you people communicate efficiently? What the heck do we do now? Who do we call? How do we update things? Is it really [almost] over? How do we return documents requested? Who do we return them to? When do we return them? How long will it take? C'mon Monday, I need to speak with DOS... hurry and get here.

Pardon me for a second if I just do this:

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. (Please move this to an appropriate spot if need be other than regional specific as I want general information)

So we've been in AP since April 2013 with Cairo Consulate-- FFWD to November 2013:

We plan a trip to England to visit beneficiary's parents, and find a middle ground we can visit each other as there has been no update on CEAC or Egypt consulate website. I send a series of emails to Cairo Consulate to ask questions about the return of beneficiary's passport so he may travel. They mention nothing more than exactly what I ask.

3 days after I sent an official email request for the passport returned, DHL delivers it. On the passport is a Post-It note that says you need an updated TB and Police report. At first I think nothing of it. Then in MENA someone who interviewed two weeks before me says they got a phone call requesting updated documents and that AP was over, so this makes me wonder a bit if this POST-IT was a cryptic message of some sort with invisible ink telling me AP is over. (Doesn't seem likely to me since there has been no official email or phone call stating so in the many correspondences over the last month). Nevertheless I send an email to Cairo Consulate asking them the meaning of this Post-It.

    Today this arrives:

    ---------- Forwarded message ----------

Kindly note that the admin processing has completed that is why we have asked you to renew the documents.

    Regards,

    MO

I would be excited except that now I'm pissed off and its Sunday and I can't call anyone to find out what kind of game these people are playing now. Why did they not tell me AP was complete? Why didn't they call? We could have left the passport there a couple more weeks if we knew AP was done since our travel plans aren't for four more weeks....

What do we do now VJ family? Who do we call? And who can I send a nasty letter too about the incompetency of the Consulate (after they stamp the visa tongue.png )?

  13. Thank you so much I cried on the phone with DOS...The lady must of thought I lost my mind lol.Any news with you?

No news really-- we just got DH passport returned to him from the consulate.

We will meet up in the UK. Maybe our visa will be approved soon and we will celebrate together in UK anyways or maybe it will just be something to pass the time while we wait longer and longer.

  14. Insha'Allah!!!!! The kids and I will meet up with DH almost a year to date since I went to Egypt and saw him last... biznillah. Trip is booked, and I don't know what I'll do if they call us while he's there or a week after we've requested the visa back from the Cairo consulate and they say... "AP is over." But-- I guess we'll cross that bridge when or if we get there. Chances are just as great this will go on a few more months so we'll take advantage of the opportunity while we can.

Its been way way way to long. I had a dream with my husband in it and he was just on skype. Thats when you know its been too long. I can't even dream a real life version of him up... D:

May God reunite us all with our SO's soon insha'Allah.
