  1. Jobs may be hard to find, but if you put your resume together, depending on your field, something should come good. Security job or anyhow job shouldn't be what you settle for if you can dig deep. I didn't do any of such, got a very good job in IT field, which has always been my background under 3months of getting to the US, had to turn down some. Certifications will help you also in whatever field, aim at that while you look. All the best.

  2. So sorry about this delay, yes, its just a delay. From all you pointed out here, I want to emphasize again like others said, they make decisions before you walk up to that window, your hubby had enough evidence and that makes it one less thing to worry about, especially if you have enough pictures, the part I would like for you to cross examine is the questions the CO asked and if his answers were consistent with what was documented. These guys are highly trained, and you dont want to open any window of slightest doubt to them, they grab it. You will get through this , try to follow Dwheels and Gowon's advise, they will go a long way to help your rebound......He's coming home

N.B Some CO's are just unbelievable beyond evidence you need a lot of prayers to get past them, they are the final exit

  3. (1) Did you request for a SSN card on your DS-230?

    (2) Did you go into the office or it came in the mail?

    and

    (3) If you did both, was there any issue at the SSA office?

    Muchas gracias mi amigo.

Yea, I did both but I think going into SSA office made it pretty fast, there was no issue at the office, they seem to be more experienced, the questions asked was how long we have been married and when I came in, verbally , filled out details on a form.

  4. oh it looks like you just don't have to get a learner's permit. My only thing is that usually in most states you have to prove that you have lived in the state for a certain period of time. My husband has his Nigerian DL but it wasn't used for anything when he was getting his license. The biggest issue we had was proving he has lived in the State of TX for at least 30 days with 2 different forms of proof and they proof couldn't be older than 90 days and from two different sources. The same law applies in the states I lived in before TX. He brought his Nigerian License because people were saying the same stuff you are saying. I mean it doesn't hurt to have it. but in our case it didn't help anything, although I will try it with the insurance company. Also did you already have your SSN?

Yes, I got my SSN the 4th day I touched down and my Visa served as GC, marriage cert was used to cover for other things.

  5. Joseph never showed his Nigerian one, just took the required tests and the insurance company never asked for proof of foreign experience

Just like I mentioned above, it all depends on the state, yours is CA, mine is MD and getting a DL after 3 weeks of getting into the US seems pretty fast too by all standards. I only think having the required documents that could speed things up is necessary to share for folks to know here.

  6. The American system is not the same with Nigerian system, and the laws says before you can be issued a driving license you must take the necessary tests but having the genuine license helps you bypass being treated as a rookie that has to go through driving school process if you understand what I mean. Not sure if I put that right

Driving Exp with Genuine DL = Take mandatory law tests »» Pass it»» License issued

Driving Exp without Genuine DL(no records and assumed you never drove a car) = Driving School»» Take mandatory law tests »»Learners Permit(temporary DL)»» Permanent DL

Process differs for all states but the bottom line is, if you have been driving before in Nigeria expired(At least within 1yr) or not , it's advisable to bring your Genuine DL and like I said, if you plan to hit the ground running.

I hope I made that a bit clearer now :-)

  7. Take a deep breath.... you are still fine with having the photocopy with you.

This is what you have to do, get a sworn affidavit on the loss of the originals then proceed to waec office at Yaba or Ogba to know what you have to do, they issue confirmation of results for verification purposes in sealed envelopes that can only be opened by organizations that request for it. Since you have to take it by hand to embassy, you need to go there or ask someone to go for you to make inquiries.

Certificates are mostly issued at Ogba office in Lagos

    I hope that helps

N.B It is regional, depending on where you sat for the exams, East, West, North and South have different offices serving for certificate issuance purposes.

  8. I thought I should share this even though its been a while I posted a topic. I understand from my experience that if you get the original Driver's license from FRSC in Nigeria it helps you in getting your license fast in the US at least in Maryland . I got my license just 3 weeks after I got to the US. Took the necessary tests as directed and presented my driving license from Nigeria and the officer took it in to verify by calling if its genuine and on the system over there in Nigeria and that was it.

This is just for those planning to move over and want to hit the ground running.

  9. I want to believe she asked for advice and not judgment on her fiancee. Every relationship is not the same and cos you experienced same that ended badly does not mean her situation will end that way. We don't even know this guy, she is the only one who sees it all. Some of you are bitter and don't care, everyone deserve a second chance even a third, fourth, fifth etc cos we make mistakes, because it did/didn't work out doesn't mean he/she is an angel/a devil.

We don't have all the answers to the questions of life.

He is still her fiancee and stop judging him, if you have nothing better to say, move to the next topic.

  10. A tough one

    Amos 3 verse 3

I want to apply my point of view to this situation from both sides. For every story that has been 'lived happily ever after' there have been some real tough and rough situations in between , it only took two people who agreed to work it out through it all. I am not justifying this man here but I want to believe living together just revealed to you the things you weren't able to see from a distance, now that you have found out, is it a trust broken or you just found out your man's weakness, what do you want to do about it?

This seem to be your real first storm, you want to steer your ship to safety?

You have given so much, and you are truly committed, which is impressive , maybe this relationship needs to draw its stent from you.

You two really have to talk about this, the devil you know is far better than the angel you don't know.

I also want to believe you see it all better than everyone here and like Gowon said everything can be worked out.

There are things that are not lovable about our partners but we love them unconditionally anyway.

  11. Those that put their trust in God shall not be forsaken.....Who is like unto this God?

God made it a super easy interview this morning and my Visa was approved under 2mins,yea 2mins.....I am sure my TL is confusing to most of you here but started our journey Aug 1 2011 and finally approved today July 15 2013. We started out as F2A and then moved to CR1 when Wifey Naturalized fully April 17 this year.

I was interviewed by white male in his early 30s

He asked me the following questions.....

    1.Who filed for you

2.How long has she been in the United states

3,How did she get to the US

    4.What does she do

That was it,No single additional proof asked and then ......APPROVED!

If you by any chance stumble on this post and you're still in the process, when at NVC please front load, they usually decide before you even walk up to them.

If you are awaiting your interview already.....you may need to stop asking God for approval now and offer Him continuous praise with faith that he has done it for you too.....Who has the final say? Jehovah !!!

Thank you VJ ,you all are beautiful people you know right? God bless you all real good and may He make you all smile BIG!!! Amen!

  12. Let me give you the best solution i think....

He should first purchase a Rim of A4 Size paper which cost about N650 = $4.50 and then walk into any local cyber cafe around his house, which i believe there will be a good number of them and he can open his mail to print all the documents from the attachment. Each page of printing shouldn't cost more than N20 ,so even if he is going to use the whole rim of 500 A4 size papers,it should cost him just N10,000 = $65 . In all what i'm trying to say is,it shouldn't cost more than $100 to get this done around his house even if he has to find a place with public transport, that should be enough to find a place and get it done. Printing documents is not an issue in Nigeria, almost all nooks and cranny has got cyber cafe where you can go download your attachments into an external storage device (flash drive) and then print at a business center (Option 2).

Let me know if you want further info on how to get this done,Lagos has over 10,000 business centers and 3000+ cyber cafes ,that's my guess anyway, but i can bet they will even be more than that number statistically.

  13. I am asking this question on behalf of a friend who had her interview today,i need inputs from people who have an idea of this situation in recent time or generally.

She had her baby after marriage, they were on F2A journey and one of the people that was scheduled on the long jump last month. her hubby naturalized fully last month as well. Today she had her interview and was told after all said and done that she must come have a DNA test for baby, her mistake was probably that she didnt add stamped passport pages of husbands entry on and off, so she is on that road now,all original documents were returned to her. Her question now is that, how long before she's rescheduled for another interview when the DNA test result is ready? She's afraid this might be another crazy long wait which she thought was going to end today.

    Thanks for your inputs

  14. Tell them at your interview. They will ask you how you want your name to appear on the certificate and you will give your signature using that name (your new name). So practice your signature and don't forget to tell them, that's all. And at the ceremony, double check that it's all right. If not, ask them to fix it while you are there. If you leave with an incorrect certificate, it can cost you money and time to fix it later on.

This answer is all you need to follow....My wife did same after her interview on the 17th of April, had same day oath at Baltimore and name change was done before certificate was issued. They will particularly ask you once the officer knows you are married.

  15. Congrats to everyone getting their IL .....surprising to see people getting interview letter without getting NOA2 else they didn't update their TL.

For me,it feels really weird that my case has been completed since November 2012 and my PD is August 1 .....Yea,i thank God for a smooth processing so far,it feels weird though, seeing people right ahead not received NOA2 yet.

Can you guys update your TLs and the thread pls. Thanks

  16. Congrats on the case complete! So your wife is planning to do same-day oath? My husband's citizenship interview is a week after your wife's, but it seems that the office in Lawrence, MA doesn't do oath ceremonies on the date of the interview. We'll probably have to wait until May to upgrade our case. I am just hoping we'll have our NOA2 before then, as it seems that upgrading the case at the NVC is much quicker than at USCIS.

Yea...Baltimore usually do same day oath,i really hope and pray you get your NOA2 as a new month gift :)

  17. So quiet in here.....How is it going people,we all seems busy with our case,i am sorry i didn't come back to update early enough but we got our CASE COMPLETED on 6th November 2012....weird for me though, but i am happy all we have to do is wait a little bit more,if you check my TL you will see my wife has almost completed her Citizenship as well, interview for 17th April and then we can upgrade case to CR1 ...Whew! I am hoping i get a June interview date but i am throwing a wide hope for MAY if case can be upgraded quick enough.

  18. N:B Everything i am going to say is my opinion

First,i will say it is sad and i am sorry you are in such dilemma but then just so you know,i am a man and i will speak to you as one,at 'least of my kind', as much as you are in a relationship ,you have equal right to be happy, immature people are not allowed in marriages or relationship heading towards that direction, relationship is meant for Adults and for people who have the mind of their own and are willing to let go whatever they have to let go to have whom they truly love.I will want to think you are probably older than him and yes you are so much in love with him and scared to loose him cos starting all over again is unthinkable right now maybe.

Sorry about my epistle but let me say that, this man has shown signs of withdrawal and it is very glaring, and it is either he has the documents or not but if you are sure he truly have this documents but has refused to put together to send then the signs are written all over this,we all get 24hrs in a day,i hate to hear it when people say they are busy about things that is majorly about their life, irritating, what kind of job takes 24/7 x 31 days in a month,i do not agree with any excuse, even if you can't leave your duty post, there will be a friend or someone you can always send on errand to go post it,this things are not hard, why are men like this? Stop breaking this beautiful people's heart, stop getting committed if you not ready.

I believe you see everything better than everyone here and your spirit will already be telling you the next step to take, don't struggle cos you are in love,God didn't plan any relationship to be hell,we humans create the hell in it,we make everything hard for ourselves.

Age is just numbers and if in this case you are older, please exhibit your maturity here and be wise.

Pray.Listen to God.Think it through. Strategize. Act.Be Happy.Life is too short to wait forever for a document.

It is the divinely designed for the man to do the 'Chasing' ,a true loving man,not by mere words, will go after his woman and do everything to wake up to her every morning.

You see it all better than all of us here.

  19. I don't really know what to think about this case as there is a lot of 'red flags' from your explanations, maybe i have not been following much on your discussions so far...It took FedEx just four days to deliver our documents (Marriage cert,Police cert,My Birth cert),we did electronic signature for DS-230 part 1 and we were favored by God at NVC and now have case completed .How would FedEx say they have just 5 blank papers(What did you do about this??)

As a Nigerian i may want to think, this is definitely spiritual....but again why should such documents be intercepted at FedEx without some explanation and if you tracked it,what part in transit was it delayed or scrutinized? Well, maybe if you can find answers to some of this as we all know this are world renowned courier services,i mean FedEx and DHL and if they cant deliver a simple package of documents...well

I'll be doing something for you and that is 'PRAY' that you may find solution to all this with a speed of light. You deserve better.

  20. God's speed and God's favor to you guys.....

Please remember to post how you were able to sort the new passport issue out and how much it cost,i remember we made a long thread of discussion over this something ago. Thanks

  21. Hey Bro...so sorry to hear to read of this delay cos i do not accept the word 'Denied' ...i will like to advice you on this rebound process

1.You may go ahead with contacting your senator to see any help they can offer but dont spend anymore on that lane

2.You have applied wisdom on deciding to go ahead with marriage which is your best option and which is the indirect response they always want to see when a K1 is denied

3.This is another time for you two to prove that you are in this together, this is where you hold your hands to defeat this delay

4.If your fiancee is not working, let her find something to do to keep her mind busy, write some exams or something, she just needs to get her mind engaged as well as you too, though i believe you are handling this well

5.Stay focused....CR1 is the way out

Stay strong bro....it was just a delay not a life long denial
