  1. If you are getting stressed out after 30 days, then I suggest you take a deep breath. Many others have waited for for 6-9 months just for their NOA2.

OT, but while you wait, please update your info here. Your profile says you are from Germany, but your timeline says your consulate is Manila. Also, your state says California, but your filing place states Texas Service Center. Please update, so others don't get confused. Thank you! :)

  2. If you will be married before she enters the U.S., you will have to apply for a CR1 spousal visa, not a K1 visa (just pointing this out because you are posting in the K1 forum). Please see the guides on the top of this page for more information. You are currently looking at a wait time of up to a year for a spousal visa, so she will most likely not be able to come back to the U.S. with you in July.

  3. Hey guys! I have a question. I did my Bio on 8/31 and since then I've been trying to add my receipt # online but keep getting the error message "My Case Status does not recognize the receipt number entered" I know I entered

the correct number but keep getting the same error. Is this normal for the case #'s to take this long in

getting updated online or do I need to call them because there may be an issue with my case.

You are using the number from your bio letter, right?

If so, it might just be that they did not scan your papers correctly into their online system. It happens and does not mean that anything is wrong with your case. I had the same problem back when I did my AOS, which was in "Case Not Found" status until the day it got approved. I would check occasionally but not worry too much about it if it does not show up. You have your NOA1 and your bio letter, so you are in their system.

  4. Admins, this topic may need to be moved to the Removal of Conditions subforum.

OP, as for the bank statements - for the one joint account you have, send them complete bank statements (not just the first page), covering the entire period of your marriage. You may only have a few payments on your bank account here and there, but it is what it is - you can only send what you have. You should, however, try to find other substantial proof of financial co-mingling and living together. Here is what we sent - maybe this'll help you with some ideas (we are also living with family and, thus, have no utility bills or lease agreements):

    • two tax returns (2013 and 2014), filed jointly
    • drivers licenses showing joint address
    • proof of joint ownership of a piece of land we bought in Dec 2014 for our future primary residence
    • affidavit from his family certifying that we have been living with them since 01/2013
    • credit card statements for three joint credit cards, covering the whole period of our marriage
    • complete checking and savings account statements with both our names on them, covering the whole period of our marriage
    • proof of joint ownership of two cars and one trailer
    • proof of joint car insurance for the whole period of marriage
    • proof of joint health and dental insurance (including bills with both names on them) for the whole period of marriage
    • husband's retirement account showing me as beneficiary
    • joint health POA's
    • photos from throughout our marriage
    • hotel receipts from trips taken together
    • sworn affidavits from family members
    • letters, cards, and bills from throughout our marriage addressed to both of us at our current address

Good luck and all the best!

  5. I knew my husband for 2.5 years when we applied for the K1, so we had not "just met", as you say. Besides, I see many CR1's on here who have barely known each other for 6 months and seen each other once when they apply for the visa. Just being married does not necessarily mean you know each other better or have a better relationship than the couples who decide to go for a fiancé visa.

Anyway, K1's are not always quicker. In fact, sometimes spousal visas are quicker than K1's, sometimes it is the other way around. Back when I was applying, both K1's and spousal visas took an equal amount of time (8-12 months), and while the spousal visas were done after that, we K1's still had to go through the AOS process after POE'ing. So it's all relative.

  6. I also had a whole lot of books and sent them all by regular DHL. In total, I had about 10 boxes, each weighing approx. 20-30 kg, Total cost was around 600 Euros. I filled out all customs forms before leaving (except for the K1 visa entry stamp, of course). Once I was in the U.S., I mailed my mom copies of the K1 visa admittance stamp, she attached them to my paperwork and sent off the boxes. I received them 3-6 weeks later. No problems whatsoever. The paperwork did not even get opened and looked at by US customs.

  7. My first job in the U.S. was (and still is) Office Manager for a local CPA firm. It is a fine and well-paying job to start with, but I am ready to move on and get something closer to what I had studied in college in Germany (Accounting and HR). Compared to Germany, I found it very easy to find a job here. I had two job offers within 3 weeks of sending my applications. Of course it depends on where you live and what your qualifications are. Like everywhere, it helps to have connections. Don't expect super-employee-friendly labor laws like in Germany concerning paid vacations, sick time, maximum work hours, etc. - it is different here, but I am sure you already know that.

    Good luck with everything!

  8. yes, and it's worth noting that there is no advantage to sending it sooner or later within the window. If, for example, your aim is to apply for naturalization asap, the clock on that starts ticking from the date of your ORIGINAL green card--nothing to do with when you applied to remove conditions.

The advantage is that the earlier your send the application, the earlier you will (hopefully) have your new Green Card. With the current processing times of 6+ months for CSC and 9+ months for VSC, I sent the application in as soon as I could.

  9. I had my biometrics today and had two fingers come up as rejected. The lady who did my fingerprints did try a couple of times but did not seem very patient, either. She gave up after 3 minutes and submitted the rejected fingerprints. I asked her what would happen now, but she told me not to worry. I am fully expecting to have to go back to get another set of fingerprints done. Not a happy camper right now.

  10. It can currently take over 12 months to receive a Green Card if you are adjusting from a K1, especially if they classify you as an Interview Waiver case (check this thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/560617-notice-of-potential-interview-waiver-case-part-iii/ ).

You can check your case status online on the USCIS website with your I-485 NOA receipt.

You are not considered "illegal". With AOS pending, you are in a period of authorized stay. No need to worry.

We regret that due to the size of our waiting room, we are unable to accommodate friends or family members accompanying you who are not applying for visas, with the exception of U.S. citizen petitioners and parents of minor children."
