On the I-485 it asks for C/O (n care of) who should i list? My wife can receive mail at this address but is it safer to put my name?
If she will be using your name from now on, then you need to fill out all the AOS in her new married name. Only list her maiden name where it asks for previous names used and name on I-94. The name you use on the forms for the Family/Surname is the name her EAD/AP and green card will come in. Yes, the copy of the certified marriage certificate you send in with the AOS paperwork acts as the legal name change document.
If she had all the required vaccinations at the time of her K-1 medical and the DS-3025 is filled out properly, then no need to see a civil surgeon for the I-693. You can just include a copy of her DS-3025. See this post for details on the DS-3025 being filled out correctly or not: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/335754-ds-3025-complete-or-not/page__view__findpost__p__4971318

I would recommend not having a discussion with your Thai wife as she will most likely say 'up to you' because she won't want a controversy. It was mentioned initially for a reason...it is her desire that this happens. Following the 'happy wife, happy life' theory, it is a small investment in your future happiness and it is to make her feel good about marrying outside her culture. You sound like a good man and will find some way to work this out. I did not have the cash available when my wife came to the USA but when we return to Thailand for our marriage, we will have sinsot and a full blown Thai wedding.

Thank you very much. This answered almost all of my questions. The last question I have is regarding family name on the I-485. On the K-1 paperwork, she used her maiden name but now that we are married she wants to change to my last name. Do we use the married name that is different from her passport or continue using her maiden name? If I submit the marriage certificate and use the married name, will that be sufficient?
The other question is with the medical. When she went to the doctor in Thailand, she was given a DS-3025 will a copyt of that be sufficient?
Thank you.
A K-1 applicant only fills out part one of the DS-230. The part where you check off for an SSN only applies to those filing for an immigrant visa, such as the CR-1. You needed to go to the SSA and apply for an SSN so long as you had at least 2 weeks before your I-94 was to expire. If it is too late for that, then you will need to wait for the EAD, and then apply at your local SSA office: http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn
If you called the USCIS customer service number, then unless your call was elevated to a tier 2, then you did not speak to a USCIS agent. Tier one workers just answer the phones and mainly read off scripts or what they are allowed to see on their computer screens. They are notorious for giving misinformation.
Follow the guide here on VJ. What it lists is all you need: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos
Also, check the example forms too. They can help out with some of the basic questions you may have about what to fill out on the forms: http://www.visajourney.com/content/examples
Vanessa's guide lists all the documents you need for each form and is easy to follow: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/235331-aos-ead-ap-from-k1-the-aussie-way-doc-list-included/

As the Spirit of the Lord reportedly said to St. Augustine, "Take thou and read." It was good for the future of St. Augustine, and it will be good for you too.
Seriously, search and read the tips at the top of each forum section, and do searches for aspects of the process you want to follow (which is by no means clear to me from what you posted).
Thank you I guess. As it says in Galations 6:2 carry each others burdens and fulfill the law of christ.
My problem is that I have read on here extensively and the information is different from what the USCIS agent told me and I wonder if something has changed. Thank you for your post and I will take it alone from here

Hello,
I just got married after my fiancee arrived on a K-1 visa. As to what nexxt steps to take I am getting mixed signals. I see on my timeline that I need to complete an I-485, I-131, and an I-765 to adjust my wife's status, get work authorization, and authorization to travel. Is this the correct process? I am confused because:
When I initially completed my packet for K-1, on the DS-230 it asks if I want a social security card and I selected yes. I have not recieved it and called social security who said I do not get a card until USCIS says I can and they gave me a number to call USCIS. The USCIS agent told me I needed to complete the following:
I-485
G-325A
I-864
I-94
I-693 supplement
I-797
Marriage Certificate
Birth Certificate
2 Passport Photos
If she wants to work or travel
I-765
I-131
I-485A
Can anyone tell me what I truly need to fill out for the next step?
Also, on the I-485 and I-131 what is the A number? is it the number from the I-797?
Is class of admission K-1? Is that the same as my USCIS status?
Thank you so much

When you say no additional fee what do you mean? If i file separate there are 3 fees but if i do together it is only one fee?
The quick answer is you should file for a social security care as soon as possible, and no later than 14-days prior to expiration date on your I-94. You will need to change the name to match the marriage name, but that isn't a biggy.
You file for permission to travel and work after you marry at the same time as you file for adjustment of status, in which case there is no additional fee. You will need to file your I-864 at the time you file for adjustment of status so you should make sure you have no income issues.

Hello,
My Fiancee arrived in the USA November 24th!! Yea!! Now I have questions about what to do next.
Do I apply for a Social Security Card for her or wait until after we are married?
Can I apply for a travel document so she can go back to visit family next year before i have a plan to travel?
When should we submit employment authorization? before or after married name and social security number?
Thank you,
Curtis

it really depends on where you live, what you owe in debt, and what your financial plan is and if you are alone or with spouse.
good salary to help spouse is $25k-35K a year on low side. 35K-50k on mid and 50K plus on high side

Hello,
When I filled out my application for my fiancee, there was an area that asked if we wanted the social security card without going to social security office. When can we expect this card? Do we have to do something or will it be automatic?
When should I apply for authorization to work? My fiance arrives Novemeber 24.
When we made our application and my fiancee interviewed, I lived in Arizona but I have taken a new job and I now live in Washington. Do I need to file a change of address or will we be fine when we arrive at SeaTac?
Thank you

what is ap? what is gc?

Not totally true.
So you have to marry within 90 days. So let's assume that you marry the first week he gets here.
You submit your AOS package and include EAD/AP. I've heard that the EAD/AP stuff comes within 2 months. So technically in less than 3 months you Guys can be of sampling the delights of the orient.
apparently i do not understand the process. she is coming to the usa in november and we will marry in december. we then file for aos --adjustment of status but then what is ead and ap?
what else needs to happen?

My fiance was reading on a website that when she comes to the usa, she cannot return to Thailand even to visit for two years. Is that true? Does she need to stay in the usa without visiting Thailand for 2 years or can she visit?

My fiancee interviewed this Tuesday and was approved. She went into embassy and a woman checked her packet 3 and told her what was complete and hat was missing. She had to complete one form and then continued on the process.
At the window for the interview, my fiancee gave three notebooks and a few forms to the officer behind the glass. 1--medical clearance 2--photos of our time together in Thailand to prove we were together along with copies of my tickets to Thailand, and 3--msn chatlogs,4--Thai cell phone bills from. 5--police clearance.
the man then looked through the paperwork and asked the following questions:
1. How did you meet your fiance?
2. How many time he visit?
3. How did he find you?
4. How often you chat?
5. He has children?
6. His children to come to Thailand?
7. Do you have children?
8. How often you talk each other?
9. How you contact him?
10.When was the first time he came to Thailand to meet you?
11. When was the second time he came to thailand to meet you?
12. When will you leave your work to go to the usa?
The man who did the interview was farang, but he did the interview in Thai language.

Today my fiancee went to the US Embassy and had her interview. After, she called me to tell me she was approved and the visa will be sent to her this Thursday.
Thank you to everyone who responded to my posts and helped me throught this process. It went very well because I listened to you and followed the directions on the forms. Good luck to everyone else!!

Hello,
We filed packet 3 before having the original police certificate and we have an interview date. If the original certificate does not come by mail prior to the interview date, can we still do the interview? Will they reschedule or perform the interview and give conditional approval and have us come back to show the certificate for final approval?
-
Hello,
You do not need to wait for the packet. You can search 'packet 3' on the US Embassy website and you will have the same information. Also, if your fiancee already went to the police in BKK for the certificate, she can send in the packet 3 with the receipt. You go to the post office, pay the fee and send it EMS (express mail service). It will get there in 1-2 days and then you will receive an email from the embassy with an interview date.

Hello,
I am in the homestretch here and as I completed packet 3, I had the following questions and need opinions.
Form 156 asks if someone else completed the form and needs a signature. Since I am completing them for my Thai fiancee, signing it and then scanning them to her, I wondered if scanning is ok or if I need to sign and post them to her so that they are the originals.
I was married before and I have my divorce papers as required in packet 1. In packet 3, it asks for marriage papers and I wondered if a copy of my original marriage certificate is required. I do not have it and was curious how other members have handled this.
Finally, what is standard for the I-134? Do I include bank statements and employer letter only or just a copy of my tax returns? Any advice on what has been done before would be fantastic.

Hello,
I was told by NVC that they entered my packet 7-9 and sent it out/processed it 7-11. I checked the DHL site and I see a shipment 7-12 which arrived 7-16. Is it fair to believe this is my shipment and my information in in BKK?
If yes, what is my next step with BKK?

Hello,
What number is used to call the NVC? My NOA2 only provided an email.
It appears that it is taking about a month for the files to go from the CSC and scanned/arrived at the NVC. Once received, how long is NVC processing time?

Hello,
I had this same question but I sent it to the lockbox as instructed and it was routed to the CSC. I was told it was routed but I never actually received confirmation that it had arrived which made me nervous but all turned out well in the end. Good Luck with your journey.

We were approved for a visa (NOA2) and need to still follow the requirements that lead to the interview in Bangkok. I have been interviewing for a job in a different state and I believe a job offer is coming this week and I will be moving to a new state and obviously address. I need to give 4 weeks notice to my current employer and so I am probably 6 weeks from moving at the soonest. When I know I am moving (offered and accept the job) when, how, and who do I notify?
-
Hello,
I have been been approved (NOA2) and I am waiting for the NVC and I want a head start on packet 3. Is the following list of requirements accurate?
1--2 copies of DS-156 with my Thai fiancee's information
2--DS-156K with her information
3--DS-230 Part I for her
4--I-134 with supporting financial information showing support from me
--Is tax return showing income and letter from employer enough or is bank letter and bank statements required?
5--Thai passport
6--2 2x2 photos as described
7--Police Certification. Should she do this now or wait for letter from Bangkok Embassy?
8--Medical Clearance from approved doctor in Bangkok
9--Divorce Documents for me. She has never been married so she does not need the. Does she need a copy of mine?
Is there anything else?
Thank you

Hello,
I sent my I-485 along with my I-765 and I-131 and I tracked the package which was signed for at the Chicago location on February 14th. I also included a G-1145 but I have not yet received an email, text, letter, nor has my check been cashed. When I sent in my original paperwork (I-129F etc) I got notice within 1-2 days of physical receipt. My problem is my wife's K-1 visa (married February 2) expires Feb 23rd...how long does this normally take? What should we do?
