  1. Unfortunately I can't afford Kobe beef, but I'd prefer a good piece of Argentinian beef to US beef any time. I hate the quality of the meat in the US... pretty much every piece of beef, pork or chicken I ever threw in a pan there ended up watering all over the place. That's not good quality. The only thing I didn't have that problem with was lamb. Loved the lamb shoulder.

And it took me forever to find good potatos, too. I don't like the white, "mealy" stuff you find everywhere. It always took me a while to get some "golden", firm potatos that actually tasted good without being drowned in gravy or sour cream, lol

  2. So, my husband is in the military and when I first immigrated to the US, he was stationed in GA and had his state of residence set to CA because that's where he's from. Then we got stationed in CA and he changed his state of residence to TX for tax purposes. I don't work and don't file my own taxes, we file jointly. We are now stationed in Germany and every so often I come across the question, which state I am a resident of?

Currently, I'm wondering which state specific facts for the N-400 interview I should memorize... My assumption is, I'll take the state I last lived in, which was CA.

    What do you guys think?

  3. hey, are you guys studying for the interview yet?

I've always been a bad student when it comes to long-term memorizing things. I'd sit down the night before a test and study all night, the next morning go to school and ace the test and a week later wouldn't remember any of the stuff, lol...

So honestly, I don't know if it even makes sense for me to start memorizing the questions now

And also - what state do I memorize the state specific questions for? The last state we lived in?

  4. Spoke to uscis, explained our situation and they said to send for a postponement. Went to consulate they explained the BBG rules but did not give much hope on reason for wanting to obtain USC :-( he explained his parents are getting old and he is an only child and would have to take care of them. Still we r still applying.

My husbands dad owns a business in Germany and if he is too old or sick (he has some health issues) then my husband would have to go run the business. We r having his dad send us a company letter.... Do u think this is a good enough reason? Bob? Brother? What else can we put.

First of, the consulate has really no say in the decision if the BBG is granted or not. They just forward it to the Bundesverwaltungsamt in Cologne for your husband. The people there are the ones calling the shots on this application.

As mentioned SEVERAL times before, your husband needs to sit down, sign up with the yahoo group zweipaesse and READ all the granted applications people have been posting there, myself included. Pick and copy everything that, even in the slightest way, applies to his situation and then shape it all into his own written statement.

  5. Thanks brother and all! Husband is working on his bbg now. As for oath postponement... We were/are gonna call uscis and inquire. However, after research and thus stated in the appt letter (N 445) we need to send them back the letter with a written excuse as to why he can not attend the oath. Our worry is that his oath is THIS thursday so we hope we r not TOO late to post postpone... you think? Also, will a letter asking for postponement of about 3 or 4 months due to family illness be a good enough excuse or will they need details? Just wondering how long they can postpone for and are they so willing to comply.

Sorry to hear that. That is our stress :(

Why on Earth would you LIE?! Tell them the truth... your husband didn't bother to do enough research BEFORE he applied for the naturalization and hnow he needs to apply for another document in order to be able to retain his German citizenship.

  6. Aside from during my pregnancy, I didn't gain weight in the US. I, as most people, definitely can't say the food was sooo good. Thankfully, I'm the one who cooks so I could make sure I bought quality incredients and we usually only ate out at Sushi bars and our favorite Chinese place in CA. However, now that we've been back in Germany for a year, I've gained WAY too much weight already... enjoying all the good stuff I had missed in the States, lol.

  7. Thanks all. After all our research sometimes seems like its just easier to forget about the USC since getting a BBG seems difficult. :(. If we decide this then who do we contact? Or just not show up for oath? So stressed.

The BBG is really NOT that big of a deal. A day, maybe two, of sitting down and READING anything he can get his hands on (as mentioned before, zweipaesse...) getting everything written down and sending it off. Once approved, he pays 255 Euros and that's it. It really, really isn't a big deal.

  8. Adding myself here. Assuming I'm the only one applying for overseas naturalization?

    Good luck everyone :-)

  9. Figured I'd dig this old thread out and hope that in the meantime somebody here has had some experience with the whole overseas naturalization process?

Can anybody tell me, how long (or how much longer) everything will approximately take? We are stationed in Germany (I am German, too) and I can send my N-400 any time now. I'm just thinking, if I have to send everything to Nebraska first and they then forward it to the Consulate in Frankfurt, it should take quite a bit longer than stateside for the interview and oath ceremony to be scheduled? I don't suspect I could be done by mid-August if I file in January?
