You should disclose the arrest. Not disclosing will definitely disqualify your application. Immediately send update to USCIS.

I think you can send a letter explaning the details and enclose a copy of the court letter. You can take the court certified letter along with you when they call you for the interview. USCIS will not disqualify people for arrest and even some types of convictions. They will definitely deny the application and even start deporting procedures if some one lies on the application and USCIS finds out about it. As long as you disclose all the details in the application and being honest about it is the big plus point with USCIS.

Today I got my passport card in the mail. That completes my process. Now I have passport book + secondary passport book + passport card.
Now I am wating for my OCI from indian consulate. India does not allow dual citizenship so I have to surrender my indian passport and apply for the OCI card. It is an indian version of Green Card in India. It is expected to take another 60-90 days to get it and then I can travel freely to india.
In the mean time, since the weather is getting nice here, I am thinking of renting an RV and travel with family coast to coast and see the rest of the country.
It is a great experience and I can not beleive it I made it finally after waiting 32 years being in US. Good Luck too all of you who is waiting in the process to become USC.

Quite honestly, I do not see any sarcastic or offensive here. What are you expeting on this forum? OP already hired an atty and contacted the congressman. IO is doing the job and there might be some issues IO want to address before making a recommendation. What else do you thing needs to be done. I still do not understand what is the issue here. Even as LPR paying the taxes does not entitle you for the citizenship if there is criminal history or if IO wants to verify some other affiliations or contacts. I do not think any one is being disrespectful at this time to any. If OP wants can make an infopass appointment and ask for additional information. We all went through the process and every one on this fourm has been extremly helpful and supportive.

Hi Eric, you need to define what your priorities are and then take the right decision. I was in the same boat as you are. After living in US for 32 years I have decided to goto Medical School and become a Medical Doctor. I have choose Caribbean Medical school due to its cost and accelerated program. I several class mates in my class who are from US and Canada studying here. That is an option you want to consider if you want to become a Doctor and work either in US or in Canada. Other option have you considered taking online courses in Canadian school that you can continue school after you become US and move to Canada? Also you can live / work in border cities like Detroit and cross the border and enter into Canada and take classes there and still maintain your US residency status. Also keep in mind in US there are community colleges which are less expensive and you can transfer several courses to college programs. There are lot of options available. Define your goals and we can better advice you. By the way I have only AS Degree from community college and I make lot more money than Doctors and PhD's. It all depends on you what field you choose and what experience you gain in your work determines how much more you can earn. Also there is a program called CLEP. Where you can study and take the test and if you pass the exam you'll get college credit. Test costs only $77 and you can get credits unto 8 depending on the subject. Technically you can get unto 96 credit hours through clep and you can finish your degree at college in 9-12 months. My 12 year old Twin daughters already taking CLEP tests and gaining credits towards college. Sort through your thoughts and let us know. Feel free to send me private message with your questions and I'll help try to answer them. By the way I completed my interview and waiting for the Oath Ceremony. I was worried and confused like you and people on this forum helped me and walked me through the process.

It is sad to hear about your friend. How big of a crime he commited for them to send to jail for 5 years. I still do not beleive they send him to jail for 5 years for hiring illegals when there are 12+ mil illegals working here.

ConcordUser got a reaction from I AM NOT THAT GUY in How many years need to stay married?
As I mentioned in my posts, this is a general question. I am LPR and happily married and staying in US for last 30+ years. When I was married none of these restrictions existed. What I don't understand is how can any one guarantee if the marriage is going to work or not. Even though are you are married for say less than 2 years and get divorced, what happens to the joint asset division. What if they have a child and how does the joint custody and visitation rights work? Are the couples required to have marriage counseling and does USCIS officer needs to have all the proof before they declined the GC due to divorce in less than 2 years. I was just confused and curious about all these things. I guess, they should not have children until they get the Spousal GC. Looks to me there is more pressure in the marriage due to all these regulations and some marriages can fail due to these excessive government intrusion in to private life. Any way, this is just my personal thoughts. I am not asking the questions either for me or on behalf of any one else. It seems things have changed a lot in the last 30-40 years how things are perceived.

You can request your own report from FBI. If you goto FBI website you can find a list of companies that are authorized to get you, your own report. Take a look at and see what it says. When you apply for certain jobs they will pull your FBI Report. Clean it up so it can be helpful to you in the future.
