  1. When my daughter and I went to the SSA, the guy was having issues pulling us from the SAVE database.

I mentioned to the guy that CBP sometimes has me as having two first names and no middle name. (In reality I’d read it somewhere on VJ) However, he found us that way and got our cards ordered. Went the next day to pickup the numbers instead of just waiting for the cards.

I found this site on how to get the SAVE database corrected but haven’t really looked into it: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=77d3feb9a2ca8210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=01d62363d8928310VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD

  2. NLR stayed for a week because she was in AB and had to fly somewhere for her medical so she did it in one go all in Montréal. Medical, wait around for the medical results, Interview, then fly home.

I had something pressing at home the week of the interview so I flew to Toronto for my medical flew home to AB, had the results couriered to me at home, then flew to Montréal for the interview.

  3. There has been at least one person lately (late spring/early summer). I know they had it sent to a DHL location in Montréal for pickup. Passports have been coming quickly lately but I’d be prepared financially to stay a few extra days just in case it takes a bit.

There is a thread in the Canada regional forum on how long it’s been taking to get passports back.

    Good luck. :)

  4. grrr. no sleep overnight. wrenched knee , asked for reschedule at GUZ IV and now headed off to hospital to get some knee surgery. I'm hoping for 30 to 45 days out, on the new interview appointment.

    Y'all keep it cheesy !

    Get Well Soon!

Glad I’m not back home this week. It was 36’C (97’F) this week and I didn’t have AC.

  5. Your daughter always looks so cute. Looks like she was enjoying the festival :)

The teen was supposed to be able to be approved for a credit card based on her Canadian credit but it came back as not approved. Now to look at other options in order to get her American credit rating going.

I have to get back into gear working on the grout situation. I’m still not done but am managing to maintain the parts that I have done. Just need to start moving furniture to get all of the rest of it done.

Going away to the FIL’s house for the long weekend. Happy to be getting away from the pod-people that have already started invading.

  6. I know niki or someone mentioned what you have to do to get your A number to work on Elis.

    Anyone remember what it is?

Something about entering extra zeroes somewhere.

FYI, if you don't pay the fee, USCIS sends you a requests for collections notice heehee

*edited because the answer was answered more than once.

The ELIS system is weird IMHO and it seemed totally crazy to add a zero in for me as well. I found Nikki’s original instructions to get through that hurdle, didn’t see anywhere on the ELIS page to tell me what to do.

I can’t wait for the day when the only government paperwork needed is the yearly taxes. So sick of paperwork and forms…

  7. I think we’ll make InfoPass appointments to try and straighten it out. Hubby’s boss is nice and will give him a freebie day off and we’ll get to see Charleston. The teen wants to see it anyways.

With all the electronics in the house we always have a selection of batteries available for when the various items die.

  8. Hey hiker.. on your green card.

    Surname:

    SURNAME

    Given name:

FIRSTNAME M (middle initial or whole middle name?)

    On the back bottom line:

    SURNAME<<FIRSTNAME<MIDDLENAME<<<<<<<<<<

That’s exactly what my GC is like.

Now that we have our 5 year driver’s licences I can send ours back for the date correction. I waited otherwise we’d only get a two year licence and I didn’t want to try to renew with the ROC letter then I’d only get a one year card in that case. It’s all based on the dates on the cards for the length of the licences here. With a maximum of 5 years for immigrants.

  9. One of my employees entire family's lives might have been saved by a carbon monoxide detector last night. The water heaters exhaust fan stopped working. Do you have one in your house?

We have one in our apartment. I should check that the battery backup batteries are still good to go.

    Glad they’re okay!

  10. That's terrible nik....for tiff, getting her DL if I recall......was just a matter of walking into DMV and presenting GC, and SS card.

Same here in SC. It was a snap. Plus I was lucky that SC has a reciprocal agreement with Canada so I could just “exchange" my AB licence for the new one. They didn’t keep my AB licence though - got to keep it.

What’s odd is I know the SSA has my first and middle name as just my first name.

  11. Department of Revenue? I hope, instead, you came back from Canada and hit a USA Customs and Border patrol Office, secondary or deferred inspection office, and chewed the ear off a supervisor to get the SAVE record properly fixed.

If you went to Department of Revenue - well, that's a Canadien Office, and I not know they cared about or even had access to SAVE there?

I went to a CSB deferred inspection office and they couldn’t find anything wrong with their databases for me and they don’t have access to SAVE. Just our admittance on a system that I can’t remember the acronym or name for.

I did find this though: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=77d3feb9a2ca8210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=01d62363d8928310VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD

The teen’s e-verify went okay though. Phew! She found it creepy when her boss input info on her and her picture came up on the boss’s computer screen.

Hmmm….I just noticed my Visa has me as having a given name of my first and middle names. Maybe it was Montréal or that caused the issue?

Ugh. I really don’t want to go for an InfoPass appointment.

  12. They didn’t even look at my cat or our household effects at the Sweet Grass,MT/Coutts,AB border crossing. I did have a rabies certificate for her from my vet and an inventory of the moving van just in case though.

I had her in a carrier for the border in case they wanted to look in the car.

I researched ahead of time and you are allowed to bring meat across the border that was produced in Canada & the US so I had a couple of weeks worth of Fancy Feast cans and I did have an open bag of hard food for her as well but I made sure to keep it in it’s bag instead of putting it in a Tupperware container like I normally do.

The issue with food was more during the Mad Cow debacle.

  13. You keep eating your rabbit food for a week!

The teen came home and told me she felt dizzy whenever she’d stand up too fast so we decided to end the juice thing. She felt way better this morning after going out for dinner and then eating some cereal with coconut milk in the evening.

Still going to work on eating healthy and having juices to supplement our food and get extra nutrients into us.

  14. I honestly don’t think I’ve eaten any canned meat since Jr. High. Pretty happy with that trend as a general rule.

Today I am craving a juicy burger stuffed with cheese with tomato & lettuce.

and I’m missing home for some reason.

  15. So I was near supper on day 2 of our juice fast yesterday and I needed to feed the cat. Not sure what flavour her food was but it actually smelled edible.

Reminded me of this canned sandwich meat spread my mum would feed us when I was small. The cans were small (like fancy feast) and they had different flavours like deviled ham and such.

We were all craving not so healthy food yesterday. Hubby was very tempted by the food samples while we were out shopping.

  16. Neck seems to be better today. I am not going to worry about it.

kimbear, I hope more than 2 people show up. At least you have a couple that you adore - always helps - my sisters and brothers, all 6 of them, love my DH. My SIL however could care less if I lived or died or had children. Family dynamics are so odd sometimes.

Ontarkie, you are right, my in laws aren't being selfish, they are being prudent. It just hurts to feel that we always have to go to them and that there is no give and take, but then they can't really give and take. I just have to shake my head and get over it, I guess.

VeeNDee, I hope your baby grows with the help of the extra nutrients.

Yesterday I was looking at the rules for taking the babies to Canada. It appears I can do so with just their birth certificates until they are 16 if we go by land, but that would mean we couldn't use our Nexus cards that DH and I have. Getting into Canada is less of an issue than getting back into the U.S. at our favorite point of entry - Sarnia/Port Huron/Blue Water Bridge - yeah, I can't imagine waiting at the border 1 or 2 hours with babies. One passport for a minor is $105 and it only lasts for 5 years! The Nexus card costs $50 a person and is also good for 5 years. Plus we need to get DH's Canadian passport renewed since it expires June 2014. Need to look into the fees for the Canadian passport. U.S. adult passports are good for 10 years so I am still good for awhile. Time to make the passport/Nexus Card savings account.

Keep in mind that NEXUS is free for minors so you could get the baby one.
