  1. sorry i sound harsh , but why have children and send them off somewhere when you cant handle them.

What would you tell your kids when they get older. Why have kids at all if you cant afford them.??

i just get mad because i 'm my case i really really want kids but am waiting till we are financially set and one of us has a college degree.

Sounds like your wife has Postpartum Depression . She can get help and get medicine and will probaly end up feeling better.

  2. Hello all,

It has been so great reading everyone's good news. We had our interview in Charlotte, NC today and here is how it went:

We arrived 45 minutes before our interview time (1:45pm). After we checked in, our immigration officer came to the waiting room and called us in at around 1:35. She was an extremely nice lady in her late twenties-early thirties. She asked to see all our IDs (driver's licenses, passports, I-94, EAD). She swore us in and asked us to verify our names, address, DOB, SSN..etc. She asked my husband to verify that he still works for his company. She asked him to confirm his signature on form I-130. Then she asked me the lengthy list of yes/no questions on form I-485. She looked at the evidence we had already submitted with our packet (joint bank accounts, credit cards, dental insurance, life insurance, co-owned house (which she seemed very impressed by)). We told her we had a lot more evidence; we actually had two bags full of documents! These include documentation of trips we took together, e-mails we exchanged while apart, credit card statements, power of attorneys, wills and a lot of pictures taken in 2008-present. She said all she needed to see was a few pictures of us. we showed her a photo book that we had made of my husbands trip to Palestine to meet my family in 2009 and she loved that. We had 100+ other pictures and she kept a few (4-6) for "the file". She seemed to particularly like our pictures with each other's family. She explained what conditional permanent residency means and she took my I-94 and EAD. She printed out her notice of approval which had directions on how to file for removal of conditions. She said we were approved and that I would get my green card in the next 30 days. I asked her if they still stamp passports, but she said she only does it if someone has an already booked itinerary with travel plans in the next 30 days. Before we left the parking lot, I had already received an email saying my card was in production, but then three hours later it changed to "decision" saying they registered me as a permanent resident.

Throughout the interview she was very pleasant. We talked about my home country, our food, my family and her one-year-old daughter. The fact that we were a same-sex couple never came up, except she said she was glad we had loving and supportive families. She said she could tell we have been together for so long and that it is clear that we have been living like a married couple for years (although we couldn't get married until recently).

I hope everyone on here has as easy and seamless journey as ours. I cannot wait to receive the green card !!

That is good! congrats on your interview date and getting your ssn processed . Im still waiting for mine in the mail . Still no tracking number it will be here for sure next week. But im not sure if i will get it in time before interview and be able to use it for proof of relationship

  3. Why do you need your employment authorisation document to apply for a social security number? Applying with a K-1 Visa, you should of gotten your number within 10 days of arriving in the country.

long story but when i applied i applied in my married name after getting married, They denied it and said i had to wait to AOS.

When i found out it was less than 2 weeks before my I94 was going to expire so i ran out of time .

  4. Received combo EAD/AP card yesterday in the USPS mail. Now that the US government is back to work, we will head down to the Social Security office tomorrow. I need to do a little online research now for the process to obtain a social security card. We still haven't received the interview date. I was hoping to buy the ticket for my husband to spend December with his family in Costa Rica, but I'm not sure he will have his Green Card by the time he leaves, and I shouldn't assume that it will be approved. Our lawyer has told us that since my husband overstayed his visa, he could have problems reentering the US without his Green Card. The AP is fine for leaving the country but doesn't guarantee reentry if someone is out of status and without the Green Card in hand.

Its easy fill in the application form and take your passport and EAD card and marriage licence. :)

then it usually takes 2 weeks to process

  5. shes applying for a k1 visa, i had my interview 2 years ago and got approved without a letter from his work just pay stubs, w2s

it may be more strict in the Philippines. But they didnt evan ask from a letter from your employer in Australia.

For our AOS i just sent his temp contract saying when he started how much he makes and his company name and his signature

our interview is in 3 weeks so i dont have any dough ts we wont get approved. I think if it was a issue they would of sent us a RFE alot earlier

  6. Our interview is TOMORROW in SF! We're excited! We have the originals packed and ready to go, along with 400ish photos.

The EAD card is coming in the mail tomorrow as well (UPS tracking)--probably after our interview. We'll share details of our experience soon.

Good luck everyone! Our AP status is still in initial review, so I wonder if the EAD will actually be a combo EAD/AP card. The I-130 is also still in initial review. I'm not sure what that means. Oh well =]

good luck let us know how it goes :)

  7. This was written for visitors who want to rent cars on their trip, not people who have migrated to the US.

She is in a weird period right now where she has migrated to the US but and is a resident of the state (but not yet a LPR which is a different thing) but doesn't have a way to prove it (EAD or GC) and for that reason most states won't give a drivers licence.

Another heads up - she will need her SSN in order to get her drivers licence, as the DMVs in Oklahoma crosscheck the name and SSN using the SAVE database. You can't get a drivers licence in OK without a SSN, and the name on her EAD will need to match the name on her SS card. So if she is changing her name, and she already has a SSN in her maiden name, then she will need to apply for the EAD (and GC) in her married name, then take the EAD (or GC) plus marriage certificate to the SSA and update her name, then go to the DMV for her drivers licence. She won't have to wait to get the actual SS card with her new name, the SSA will give her a letter that she can show the DMV, and the database change is very fast.

If she doesn't have her SSN yet, then I suggests she goes ASAP (as soon as they start taking applications again) while she still can (she can only get one within 90 days minus 2 weeks of entry). Otherwise she needs to wait for the EAD, then go to the SSA and apply for one with her married name (if she's changing it) before going to the DMV.

. She won't have to wait to get the actual SS card with her new name, the SSA will give her a letter that she can show the DMV, and the database change is very fast.

Can you apply for this evan though the government shutdown is not over?

i thought they were not accepting new SSN applications .

Or can i go to the SSN office and get a written letter to the DMV saying im eligible but cant apply because of the shutdown?

We cannot provide the following services:

    1. Issue new or replacement Social Security cards
    2. Replace your Medicare card
    3. Issue a proof of income letter
