  1. Make sure you are legally able to marry when you file your petition. Some states have laws that require people to wait a certain amount of time after a divorce before getting married again.

Well oddly enough I was separated for over 5 years before I divorced my first husband and I filed barley a month after the final decree.

My second husband and I have been separated for quite some time and Im only waiting on the final decree. I don't see any problem with the timing, I didn't plan on falling in love again but I am so very blessed to have found a wonderful man.

Thanks for the advice, I've been on VJ since 2005 so I know some have been in my situation and had no problems. I have followed everything "legal" after all I am a Legal Assistant ;-) Just wanted to refresh myself with the process and see if anyone had any new advice for this situation.

Thank you for all the replies. I'm wishing you all the best and hoping that this is my last trip down the isle, God Willing.

  2. We hello to all and Salamu alaikum (L) ....I have been on VJ since 2005...To properly introduce myself I thought I might give a short background in hopes for good advice in the future. I am a USC and I was married to another USC when I was 16 back in 1996. We were married for 5 years and divorced after being separated for another 5 years(in 2005). We have a 15 year old son together.

I found a man online by chance via yahoo messenger (Islamic Chat Room)in December 2004, we fell in love and we applied for a K1 - Egypt - June 2005. He was approved, moved to the US in December 2005 and we were married for 6 years. We are almost finished with our divorce process and he has already become a USC. We have a lovely daughter together and there are no hard feelings.

While not looking for love I found my true soulmate in an Yahoo Islamic chat room back in November of 2011. We have been inseparable ever since that first talk. I have visited him over 3 times in Egypt over the last six months and we are officially engaged. My plan is to apply for the K1 visa again and pray for a speedy process. I am not uneducated so I know exactly what I am putting myself through again, but I simply cannot live my life without this wonderful man. We are only 1 year in age difference and he has never been married before. As stated above I have been married twice for lengthy periods of time and with legitimate reasons for the marriages to have ended. I have read about others in my similar situation and am asking advice and tips that may help us when we are able to finally file our K1. I have two children and my family is looking forward to having my Fiance here with us to complete our lives together. I have a great job so support will not be an issue.

I know there are mixed opinions about multi K1 visas but honestly I did not truly plan on putting myself through this process again but when you stumble across a man who fits every dream that you have ever prayed for its hard not to give it everything you have. My heart aches without him and my children have grown to know him and love him dearly. He is kind, respectable and has treated me and shown me what real love feels like. We are of the same religion and share many of the same goals. Anyway my question is actually for advice on those who have been in this similar situation and if you have any special advice for us to help us avoid any mistakes.

We have many boarding passes, passport stamps, receipts of spending time together, photographs with family and friends in Egypt. Screen shots of us online with my children and family, text messages everyday, emails back and fourth, cards and love letters from both, and more. We are hoping to send off the K1 in early July as we are gathering all required documents. We know that we are looking at at least a 8 month wait.

I look forward to hearing from you all and I appreciate your advice in advance. Thank you for your time.

Salam, Thank you....Egyptian True Love At Last :-) :luv:

  3. In Louisiana you have to be living seperate for 6 months to one year before you can divorce. The divorce itself may take several months. Good advice already given. Appear in court when required so you know what is going on, you still have a say in what happens and how the divorce is granted. When we talk I will explain more, Im sorry for your situation. VJ'ers are great so you will get great advice.

  4. Her former tourist visa was in former passport, the former visa had been canceled at JFK because of questions. I do have other materials to show her presence in USA,

Does this mean that she was turned away at JFK? "canceled at JFK because of questions" What questions?

If she has visited you twice you can use things like her actual boarding pass, receipts, pictures of you two together, affidavits from persons who witnessed you together in the US, documents of any places you went together, etc. Do you live in New York or did you travel together to another location? If yes, then showing you were on the same flight is another way.

    Good luck!

  5. There are many to check like: Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, Hotwire, Cheapoair, cheaptickets, etc..... Just go a Google search for cheap airline tickets. Good luck.

Yeah...I have tried all the regulars that you get in google search...Just wondering if anyone knows of any "other" sites that they have used.

  6. I'm not really sure about specifics but I think if you also have good communication that is documented about your relationship you may help prove that you did not commit fraud. My ex-husband and I lived separate for over 6 months but we communicated on a daily basis. Maybe this is something that you could look into versus divorce which is pretty expensive being that you want to at this point try to keep your marriage alive, just not physically at this time. I wish you both good luck and appreciate your honesty.

  7. Sad to say but you will have to wait. Egypt's rules on this are pretty strict. You could start the process but he cant travel without a release from the Army anyways. They wont give him that until he completes his duty. :-( I hope you get some better advice.

  8. If his only response was "ok" then you know that he didn't care from the beginning.

I'm truly sorry that this guy decided to do this to you and I hope that you can move on and begin to trust again one day. All men are not like him and many Egyptians would be appalled by his actions.

Best of luck to you (F)

  9. You have gotten some great advice here but it seems to me that you are still a little confused.

Here is something to make the process easy on you:

If you marry in Korea you will return to the US alone and apply for a CR1 Spousal Visa.

For any visa you will need a sponsor (USC) that makes enough money to support their household and your wife.

    or

You can file for a K1 fiance' visa as long as you have been to visit her within the last 2 years.

The guides for all your choices are very helpful if you read them carefully. Try to get to the basics first.

    Good luck :D

  10. Is visiting him an option? I know it's costly but I would rather spend the money and keep my relationship healthy and strong than wait for it to fall apart over time.

It's hard and certainly not anything anyone who chose but likes others have said, the end result is very much worth the wait. Someone always has it worse. Praying for you both to have the strength to make it through this.

    Good Luck (L)
