  1. After our marriage in Peru, it was so easy to add my surname to the wifey's (like "Guerra de MacLeod"). She went to the national identity office with her marriage certificate in hand, obtained a new national identity document with her original (pre-marriage) ID number, so she still has a papertrail in case the government wishes to investigate for any reason. After that, I filed the immigrant petition papers for my wife in her married name and everything is done.

Colombia may be different, but I know in Peru it was very easy and did not cost a lot.

    Regards,

    Magnus

  2. Perhaps she assumes that if she stays in USA until the baby is born...there will be some consideration of her circumstances. I do not believe this will happen and she would be deported anyway or just live her with out papers. Just becuase you give birth here does not entitle a person to stay here. The only thing she would be doing is bestowing USA citizenship to her newborn and making a complex mess for everyone when Immigration finds her.

I believe in immigration reform and consideration on a case by case basis, but this situation is not right.

    Regards...

  3. It is not a false RFE; however, if you have already sent the required documents....you should give NVC a few more days until they show up in their system. I recieved the same request as you did after I had sent everything in, but the following day they sent an email saying, "all documents necessary to complete your case have been recieved and that an interview was being scheduled!

NVC can be slow to process documents. be patient and good luck. Don't rush to resend documents you have already sent.

    Sincerely,

    Magnus

  4. I was looking at the vjwiki page for the cr-1 visa and it states this is needed to be sent with I-864 and DS-230. Can anyone explain what this means? I have already sent the I-864 and had not seen anything about this cover sheet until now. Will they accept it without that? I have no idea what is meant by this term.

Well, NVC likes to send emails. When they request the I-864 financial evidence, they email you a coversheet to download. You put it on top of all requested documents you are sending to NVC. The same for the DS-230.

That's it in a nut shell.

  5. Hi and happy new year,

We had a small Peruvian wedding in Lima. It was a civil ceremony and a total of 15 in the wedding party. My wife had a hand made wedding dress ($120), there was a photographer, and I flew my wife's family in from another region of Peru.

My total cost was approx. $1800. I was a small and wonderful ceremony. I am happy we chose to do it that way.

  6. Well, I am sure it is different for every case and every country, but....for us...from NOA1 to Interview it will be almost 9 months total. We recieved NOA2 in less that 3 months and once at NVC things go rapidly. From NVC complete to Interview notice was 10 days.

I believe timelines aren't updated because USCIS, NVC have slowed down...like many jobs due to the Holidays. I think they'll start picking up now since they're over.

    Sincerely,

    Magnus

  7. You should not obtain the vaccinations or other services until you have recieved your interview date. The embassy doctors require you to have your interview date prior to making an appointment. Also, be patient and be wise....for example; the US embassy in Peru required 14 or 15 vaccinations. However; after my wife's visit to the embassy doctor....it was determined that she only required 4 vaccines and the doctor said the rest were inappropriate (ie. wait and save money on vaccines!). So, the doctor gave her 4 shots and passed her for the others.

    Good Luck,

    Magnus

  8. Hello,

Just looking for suggestions. My wife got bad information from her friend about what her name would be after marriage. Because of that the name she gave me to use for her I-130 was wrong I believe. My wife has 4 names not three. However, on the I-130 I put(for example) Maria crunes De Jones, instead of Maria Juvies Crunes De Jones. Juvies being her middle name and Crunes being her fathers last name. On her passport that she just received, the name is Maria Juvies Crunes De Jones. Should I just go ahead and Put this name on the passport or put the name I used on the I-130(Maria Crunes De Jones). I know the visa will be issued to the name on the passport, but just wondering if i should put that name on DS-230 or stick with the name I put on I-130. Thanks.

    Matt

You need to use the name on her passport. When filling out the ds-230, you will need her complete legal name (name on passport). If you are past the I-130 stage and preparing the DS-230, then the name on the DS-230 will take precedent. In other words, even if you left a name out on the I-130, the name presented on the IV application has precedence.

I tell you this via experience. On my I-130, I left out my wife's Mother's name. When fill out the IV form I included the name and that is how the embassy sees it. My wife's name is like Sonia Maria Noriega Guerra de MacLeod. Use the full name as it is on the passport. You do not need to backtrack on the I-130.

    Buena suerte,

    Magnus

  9. Check Spirit Airlines; they fly to Lima, Peru and have some damn good prices starting at 359.00 from/To Chicago (transfer FT. Lauderdale). Don't know where your located, but something to look when it comes to a good fare and a safe airline. Good Luck

I'm in D.C., I'll look at Spirit but was hoping to use my AA frequent flier miles for my wife's journey here (fingers crossed).

    Thanks,

    Malik
