  1. For me it took 7 working days...

But as you must already heard, if you're making plans just wait until visa is in hand. It could go either way, you could get it fast, or maybe something can come wrong. I knew a girl who realized - after having her passport for like a week - that her Peruvian passport number was wrong, and had to take her visa to get corrected, and almost missed her flight, so be extra careful with flight reservations!

    Yes,

This happened in our case. As soon as I saw my wife's passport/visa, I immediatly saw a mistake (one to many digits in her passport number on visa). We caught it early enough, but it was incovenient. Be sure to look at (double check) your visa please.

  2. My wife went first for her medical exam...and then two weeks later, she returned for her vaccinations. She had a total of four injections for 6 vacunas. In our case, we had plenty of time. Remember that we are a CR1 case, so some differences are between us.

My wife said Dra. Viviana was nice and that she prefered a female Doctor to a male Dr. You should call her office to see if it can be completed in one visit. I am pretty sure it can be.

As soon as we new our interview date, recieved the interview email, we called the Dra to make appointment.

    Sincerely,

    Magnus

  3. Pika friend,

Wonderful story. I am so happy for you guys! We (Sonia & I) will be doing this on 12 April. I hope our experience is similar to yours...but I doubt it will be as fast or easy.

We arrive in Miami around 2 in the afternoon which is a very busy time.

Thanks so much for the information...and enjoy you adopted, new land !!!!

    Sincerely,

    Magnus (el cachalote)

P.S. - I found this site for those of us yet to go to POE!

    http://apps.cbp.gov/awt/

  4. Our Point ofEntry (PoE) was JFK, New York and fortunately I was accompanying my wifeexperiencing the whole thing first hand. I don't think our experience could beany simpler. On arrival we went to the Immigration checkpoint fornon-immigrants with my wife and asked the CBP officer:

Me: Is this the right window for a new immigrant.

CBP Officer: Yes, I can take it.

I handed over the sealed envelope along with her passport to the officer.

CBP Officer: Is she your wife?

    Me: Yes

The officer tore the envelop, quickly scanned the papers in there, keyed insome info in the computer, and asked my wife this:

CBP Officer: Can you please put 4 fingers of your right hand on the screen.

My wife did that and then the officer asked to put her thumb. After that thesame for her left hand. Once the finger printing was done, stamped her passportwith the entry seal, gave us the papers back and told us:

CBP Officer: You can go to counter 4 in the back.

So I asked if he can take care of my passport and did the same taking few moreseconds.

Afterwards, we took all the papers to the counter 4, which is nothing but somedesignated areas on the floor marked with 1, 2, 3, and 4. We were the onlypeople who came to 4 and the officer promptly told us "come on guys"with a smile. He then took a quick scan of the documents, and asked me

CBP Officer 2: Would you have any more passport size photo graph with you? Idon't see the required number in the bundle.

Fortunately we had more than 5 copies of photograph with us. While we weretaking them out of our bags, the CBP officer went through the papers andrealized the photos were in separate plastic bag where they should be in thepacket and told us that we are okay; however he took the extra photograph justin case. Then took the index finger impression of my wife, asked her to signher name and said "You are done, welcome".

I mean, I was ecstatic and couldn't resist saying "I heard so manyhorrible stories about the PoE and never thought it would be this simple".The officer smiled and said that depends on combination of paperwork wereceive, number of people in here, and of course the officer.

I walked outwith my head high, and with a really big smile on my face.......... Things workedout mysteriously well for me, and I personally thank God, my wife, hers and myfamily members, and the people whole helped me with their thoughts andsuggestions on this site. I wish all a smooth ride as well. May god with youall the time.........

I guess I will be out of this site for a while, until the time when herCondition needs to be removed to change the CR1 status. Bye all for now....

Thank you for this wonderful and detailed story. My wife (Visa Cr1) and I will be arriving in Miami POE. I hope our experience will be as easy as yours!

    Sincerely,

    Magnus

  5. Thanks Magnus, we thought about that but he bought his ticket last week and when we looked at it carefully before checking-in online, it said $70, so does their website. F-ers.

    Diana

    Hey,

I did some research on AA.com. And my wife is lucky. I booked her ticket using my AA miles....I burned 35k miles for her ticket. Her ticket is a "Y" class ticket which means "full-fare in economy class"; also, her ticket is an "Economy class AAnytime Award".

These are some exceptions to the additional checked bag rule. So the wife will be able to check 2 bags for nada. For me, its no problem beacause I always check one.

So, I think we will be ok as long as wife doesn't go overboard. Save your miles too. I lucked out this time because AA screwed me...I had wanted to use MileSAAver miles (15K), but none were availble for the date. Only AAnytime awards were available at 35K miles. So, it still cost me because I was forced to use 20k more miles than necessary.

At least I have the small satifaction of thinking I beating the "baggage rules". In reality, I'm getting nickle and dimed like anyone else!

    Be well...pasa buen dia!!

    Magnus.

  6. That's exactly what I was about to post. The historic wait times are the best info you can get your hands on. No one can tell you whether 3 hours will be enough because it depends on SO many factors that are unpredictable and outside your control. We made it with a 2.5-hour layover (and a dog!). Our contingency plan was to catch the next flight, which I think American would have been happy to help with had the worst occurred.

OJALA!!! I hope American will assist us if this happens and I hope they won't charge an arm and a leg either!!!

    My friend! Hola!

You know I'll be having my POE 14th March, next wednesday!! It will be at Miami Airport! I will tell you about my experience ;) ;)

    Good luck!!!

    Thanks my friend.

I look forward to your POE review!!! Good Luck you guys!!!!

    Magnus

  7. My husband also booked his flight to Colombia with our AA miles and when he checked in online this morning was pretty shocked to see that the charge for a second bag is now $70 when it used to be free of charge, which means it's an additional $140 round-trip.

    Diana

    Dear Diana,

If you can, print out your e-ticket confirmation from AA. On it, it will say this is a reciept for your ticket....it will also say that the fee for a second checked bag is $30...not $70. So, I believe if you or husband will argue the point of this contract at the counter...AA should concede. I know the AA website says, "for tickets purchased after.......you will pay $70 per second checked bag", but my e-ticket confirmation says $30 to and from South America. I plan to argue the point at the counter. Perhaps you can do the same because there's nothing to lose but money. We fly on 5 Abril. Pasa buen dia y buena suerte, Sincerely, Magnus (el cachalote).

  8. Thanks everyone for your advise and many good suggestions. I will be patient and accepting of any outcome regarding our layover...and I will be so happy she's here in USA that everything is trivial compared to her arrival.

Thanks for the info...it is much appreciated!!!

    Sincerely,

    Magnus

  9. Yeah Diana,

American started that last year. How unfortunate. I have asked my wife to pack lightly because of this. And I am checking a grand maleta, carrying it down to Peru almost empty....so she can stuff it with her stuff.

So, I will check my grand maleta for gratis...my wife will check her big bag for free...and perhaps we will circumvent those 2nd checked bag fees. Perhaps not??

I am just glad she'll be coming.

I bought my ticket early because of events in the Middle East ( I am expecting the airlines to add another fuel surcharge soon!).

    Sincerely,

    Magnus

  10. Hi all,

Just when I think everything is ok, I find something else to worry about.

This is to all of you who have recently entered Miami for point of entry.

How long, in general, was your processing times? My wife will be arriving there in April, and we have a connecting flight three hours after arriving in Miami.

Is there a chance we will finish POE processing and catch our connecting flight? I am sure there is a chance we will miss the flight.

I have already read POE reviews, but would like more recent occasions.

    Thanks,

    Sincerely,

    Magnus

  11. Final Update: For my wife's ticket from Lima to Washington, D.C., one-way, I used 35000 AA advantage miles and in the end paid $50 for taxes and fees.

My ticket from D.C. to Lima cost $1015. I had been watching the fare consistantly for weeks. It jumped up to $1300 on weekends and dropped to a low of $975 early on Tuesday mornings. I purchased my far the following Wednesday before it returned to nearly $1300.

I stuck with American Airlines because I've ammased a bunch of miles with them.

Fare well in all your ticket purchases!

    Sincerely,

    Magnus

  12. Yes,

A lot of us have used it. It is simple, fast and straight forward. You are able to save it incomplete...then complete it at your liesure. You must pay the IV fee first before you may start to fill it in. However; be sure everything is complete and accurate when you hit complete and submit.

They say the process for correcting mistakes is gruesome.

Every question has a "help" section to it to help you give the correct info.

It quick and easy! Muy facil!!

    No te preocupas!

    Good Luck,

    Magnus
