  Sorry for putting my 2 cents when they are not needed Dee, I just read your post and feel bad to hear all this as I have read your post in the past. A few things, give the relation its pertinent time before you go forward with enlarging the family; file a police report, or at least get advise from the police on the past issues , is better to be ready for the What IFs as now he is all u got here.
