  1. Ok, so I have lurked around this site for 3 years, but never actually posted a question. However, my husband and I are beginning the AOS process, and I swear to god, each step is progressively more confusing.

First Question: Form I-864....I do not make enough $$ on my own (grad student), and will need a co-sponsor. My brother has agreed to do so. I believe we both must fill out this form, correct?

Ans: since your brother does not live with you, yes,you do need to sign same affidavit of support form: I-864.

Also, will I need to include him in our household size (even though he lives in CA and we are in IN), thus making it a household of 3? How do I clarify this in Part 5 Q21: Household Size. Brother who is co-sponsor but does not live with you doesn't really fit into any of the categories listed...I don't know why I am so confused by this, but I am. I am assuming (I hope correctly) that form I-864A does NOT need to be used in this sort of situation (since we do not live in the same household).

Ans: you don't need to include your brother in your household size since he lives in a different house. he though needs to reach the poverty guideline to become a co-sponsor plus the intending immigrant. so, in your household size: you and your husband + any other who lives with you. on your brother household size: your brother + your husband + anyone that lives with your brother.

Second Question: Form 693...my husband did not retain any copy of his medical exam (which would have been performed in Feb. of this year) when he came over in March. Since medical is less than a year old at this time, we do not need to worry about this, correct? What about the vaccination requirement? Would it be better just to go to the health dept/civil surgeon to get that taken care of proactively or just hope that papers got sent where they need to be? What would you do....

Ans: you do need to transcribed the form 693 if the vaccination record stated "incomplete". if the vaccination record from original country is lost...i'm not sure what to do anymore. since it should be included on the AOS packet along with the transcribed form 693 if vaccination record stated "incomplete". let's wait for the others to answer this question.

I am sure I will have many more questions in the coming days, but those are the two biggest & most urgent at this time.

Thanks for helping a confused gal out!!

  2. is it okay to ask why didn't you marry when you were together in the philippines for a long time. most filipino parents (not all) would raise their eyebrows for couples especially their kids staying together having a child and not getting married to honor family's name. my mom would never understand. but it is your own business why you didn't get married. God bless and good luck on your journey. just my personal opinion. no offense intended.

this question can be raised during the interview. so, a valid prepared answer could come in handy. good luck once again.

  3. Hello everyone, can anybody help/advice us? In the I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, there is a portion there, which USCIS office? Date. Are we the one who choose for a date and USCIS office? In I-693,report of medical examination and vaccination record,i believe that i only need to transfer my vaccination record to that form through a USCIS civil surgeon. Can anybody tell me if which specific vaccination needed in AOS. i got a complete series of shot in MMR,Tdap,HepA-HepB and i had a history of chicken fox so i did'nt get the Varicella Vaccine.I did'nt have a flu vaccine since its not a flu season. We are trying to know the specific vaccination requirements since all the USCIS civil surgeon which is near in our place and neighboring town told us to pay $300 just for validating the I-693 form which is too expensive. Replies are greatly appreciated.THANK YOU!

on the line which asked which USCIS office, my answer was "none" and no entry for the date. cause it was related to the question on question 11 asking whether or not i have applied AED before which i answered "no" since this is my first time to apply.

the form you're talking to as "form through a USCIS civil surgeon" is the I-693 itself. some civil surgeon would recommend you to undergo that medical exam and several vaccine shots. with my experience, i printed the I-693 form instruction highlighting the part that for those who enter the US with a K-1 visa had our medical in our country of origin. and we don't need to have another medical exam as long as the medical is less than 1 year. as for the vaccine i talked my way out of that as we have no budget for it.i for one, would recommend it as it is good for us to protect us from diseases through immunization. if you have the budget for that, go for it. if you don't have, talk your way out of that.if they insist then shop around who would allow you to skip those shots. if you would, drive further like 2-3 hours. you could make it a road trip for you two and have fun while on it.

  4. please send everything. follow the steps here:

    adjusting status

    for the affidavit of support:

this is the instruction for the I-864 form:

    1. I-864 form

    2. ITR (recent/3 consecutive years)

    3. paystubs

    4. employment certificate

    5. proof citizenship/permanent residency

    6. bank statement

    7. assets (if applicable)

  5. when i arrived in our home in the US, i suggested to my husband to cut our cable, phone, internet bundle. my husband ended his entire account on this provider. and then, i applied as new costumer. we cut down more or less, $100 on our bills for this. i started clipping coupons and only buy those on sale and are free after coupons. we save a lot on this too. our landline phone was disconnected along with the bundle. we have our cellphones, anyhow. so, it was really not necessary. we only buy clothes for gifts on special occasions. we have still enough clothes to wear. we're planning to change our wardrobe after 10 years. lol. no kidding. that's our plan. we're trying to save every penny we can to survive in this country. i am just glad my husband supports me all the way. we never get to buy toothpaste anymore. they're free and most of the time, i get a sample on the mail. thanks to a private group in facebook called pretty ladies, i'm able to be updated on any sample available. been a member to all those blog sites they recommended and i could get to order free sample everyday. hope i am able to share some infos to save. i learned a lot when i came to the US. i was pampered back home. i buy, travel and spend money whenever i want back home. never thinking of saving. i grow up when i migrated here. and it's a good thing. marriage life in the US is for me, somewhat, a challenge but a welcome challenge. we need to learn things ASAP. that's life is all about.i love my husband more. he always encourages me whatever things i am planning to do to save.

  6. make some small income generating projects. babysit kids of neighbors/friends, borrow money from friends, borrow money from back home (i did this), do some garage sales ( i don't mind letting go of some stuffs for my AOS). look for co-sponsor. list some prospective co-sponsors. approached each one of them. always think positive. trust me, there is for sure one of them that would be willing to help you. list even those whom you know but are in the other state you're in. call them and ask them. prepare all documents. write up and ready everything that all your husband needs to do would be to sign. as well as for your co-sponsor. work on the solutions. loosen up on the problems. God bless and good luck

  7. they are legends. some filipinos believe they are real. even in our province, they would point out who are the aswangs.they're like a family. the power handed down to generation to generation. i wanted to see one to be sure they are real. but never ever seen any aswang. some night a bird would call into the night "wak wak wak". and they would say, that's the aswang. when i look for it outside, it's only just a big black bird eating on the fruits on the tree next to our house. in the morning, the fruit was on the ground, half eaten. i believe...aswang is only a legend. mangkukulam is another story. some people obviously do these bad omen things to wish their enemies harm. but whether or not it is effective is a matter of faith, i personally believe. but i'm sure, God will always protect his people against evil deeds.

  8. by the way, ricefield is expensive compare to coco land. but, ricefield is risky investment compare to cocoland. ricefield also needs capital every planting up to harvesting. then, from there you'll reap you rewards after. while a cocoland, well, when you purchased it, it has coconut trees already. and it is granted every 3 months you can harvest the coconuts for copra. the only expenses is the labor. sometimes, copra is higher than rice while on other times rice is higher than copra.

to lessen any doubts on this sale, ask for the copy of the deed of sale and the tax declaration copy from the assesor's office of this ricefield. it is stated there how much this ricefield yield per harvest. it is all stated there.good luck.

  9. i'm not an expert in rice fields but i would just share what i know. based on my knowledge, a rice field is measured by the ganta (the number of seedlings that it can be planted on a ricefield) and not by hectare. pls correct me if i'm wrong.back at home, when we want to buy a ricefield, we'll know how big is the ricefield by asking: "how much ganta of rice can be planted on this ricefield" then, the question is immediately followed by another question which is: " is it rainfeed or irrigation?" as these questions are those that would determine if the ricefield is worth buying or not or if the rice is reasonable or not.

making it notarized is the first step of transferring the name of the land from the previous owner to the new owner. the second is getting it titled if it is not yet titled. filing for land titles is expensive in the philippines. as from our province it could range from 10,000 php to 25,000 php. it depends on whether or not the land tax was religiously paid or not. some transactions could be that the seller will be the one to notarized the deed of sale while others both seller and buyer divide the cost and others the buyer will be the one to notarize it.it all depends on the agreement. titled lands are better as you only need to transfer it to the new buyer.

i don't know how much a 1 hectare ricefield needs for fertilizer. but i do know that 1 sack of fertilizer costs around 1500php - 2,200php. wow, the ricefield must be huge to yield a 70,000-100,000/3 months. average ricefield back at home, just the average which yield around more or less 100 cans of rice/harvest or 33 sacks of rice. one sack of rice contains 3 cans or rice.once they would be milled and processed into ready to cook rice, it would go down to about 28 sacks of rice. the number of rice will go down as the unclean rice still has rice shells on it and maybe hay with it. this number still has not yet been subtracted with the share for the fertilizer and labor. all in all, around 42,000php will be the yield. you still need to minus the labor and the share of the fertilizer and all.

by the way, rainfeed ricefield can only be planted once a year while irrigation ricefield is 2x-3x a year. it all depends on the water and the weather.

and it is true that a tractor is around 50,000php. but you need a truck to carry that around or else you need to hire one which is an additional expense. hoping this help you. maybe others have more accurate infos.

  10. thank you for all the replies. my husband and i decided that we need to live separately from her. my husband will going to talk with my MIL when she comes home next week. thank you so much guys. i feel relieved somehow that this will finally end and we (my husband and i) will have our own home, free from annoying MIL dramas.

  11. i understand but you have to realize your mother in law was brought up in a different time where its not common for this to happen. Aside from this I assume there are other issues. Well easy solution is to get her out of your lives but be careful when a man has to choose between his mother and any other woman the situation normally gets ugly. you tried talking to her about it? about the stress its bringing on your relationship?

thank you. yes, there are other issues that caused to flare this up. i complained to my husband that my mother in law orders/asks me to do things for her when my husband is not around. she wants me to do her nails, hair, encode some paper works on the computer, massage her etc. for two weeks, i started to go with my husband to work to avoid these. i don't mind doing things for her once in a while but it seems like it has become a habit for her to order me around. maybe she got an idea why i am going with my husband to work and confront my husband. my husband admit that i was going with him to work because i am avoiding her. and so, my mother in law confronted me about this and about my sleep over and my babysitting at my friend's house.
