I'm trying to wrap my head around how to fill out form 3299 - declaration for free entry of unaccompanied articles - for some goods I inherited from my mother coming by container ship. I've been an LPR for the last almost 3 years and all the questions on that form seem to be aimed at people just moving here. The CBP website very clearly states it is this form and I've figured most fields out but I have no idea what they want for question 9 which is on residency.
Fairly sure I want "I declare that my place of residence abroad WAS (rather than is) name of country
but I struggle with Length of Time - do they want the last visit in Germany? Or how long I lived there ever? Does anyone have experience with this and can help out? The shipping company isn't super helpful with the forms (they mainly do normal moves) and the CBP website is completely useless.
It also seems strange that my last date of arrival and plane number are relevant to this - would it be when I first POE'ed? And my husband was along for the ride last time I went home but since the things were my mom's / mine from when I was little they were never his household item. Help please?!
Many thanks!

When you go to the product page for your monitor you can see under specifications:
Power Requirements AC 100 - 120 V / 200 - 240 V, 50 / 60 Hz
So should work in US no problems.
-
A lot of electronics do work (our Canon printer seems quite happy in both environments) - check on the either the unit or the transformer if it has one and it should tell you what range of input it works with.

Thanks guys - I contacted them and they seem to be able to help even with my somewhat more complicated timeline and requirements (moving stuff from my mom's estate while visiting Germany etc). YAY!

Vielen Dank!

Does anyone have experience with a particular moving company in the Braunschweig area of Germany - I'm looking for full service, i.e. packing it up in my home, loading the container etc. end to end. Any advice would be highly appreciated!

It depends on the airport and even then I think it depends on the person supervising the lines - just ask the officer who is pointing you in the appropriate directions. As for having to do it alone I'm fairly sure that the USC is allowed to be in the foreigners' line, if the other way round is not possible - would mean longer line for you but at least you would wait together.
Good luck!

I'm using xe trade - they don't charge a fee but give you a slightly lower rate than the current market rate (as in the one you would see on a ticker). We looked at transferring some money yesterday from US to Europe - bank of america was charging only 35 USD but for the amount we wanted xe trade saved us about 200 USD overall. Might be worth checking out at any rate...

Rules are different from state to state - here in MA I was able to get a MA license with SSN and the NOA1 for AOS and it's valid for the normal MA time span, not limited to one year because of the NOA1 or anything. It probably helped that I went to the Boston RMV rather than one in a little town and there specifically to the place where they did conversions from foreign licenses (didn't need to take a test with my German license which was nice) so if it is imperative that your wife drive ASAP I would wait for NOA1 - which shouldn't take thaaaaat long - and then go to the main DMV in LA (check their website, maybe they comment on foreign licenses, that's the office I'd go to).
Good luck!

The K1 visa will be activated as soon as she enters for the first time after receipt of visa and cannot be re-used. You might be able to stall the process but not sure if that long is possible - check what the current time between NOA2 and visa in hand is for London embassy. Maybe it would be worth it to get in touch with the embassy once they have received the file and see if you can push your interview until after the vacation (or if it would be possible to keep your - hopefully approved - file on hold until after the vacation and then send in the passport when returned to get the visa into it).

Looks like I was mistaken (it's been almost 4 years) - I was sure I got it in English, but I only found the same you found that they only do it in German, sorry about that. (Dear me, my memory...)
-
I think police certificates are only valid for a certain period of time (not sure anymore how long) but seeing that in theory you shouldn't need one anyway, you're probably good with the old one.
Just as FYI should you ever need one in the future I'm fairly sure I managed to obtain one that was in English (possibly other languages as well, don't remember) by ordering a "for use abroad" one - should they request an up-to-date one make sure to order that, so you don't have to fork out for the translation, at least...
-
You probably don't need the one from Germany (and it is reasonable to argue that, seeing that you can prove that you were only there for 11 months) - on the other hand it costs something like 13 Euro so it might be worth it to just get it anyway and have it should they ask...
Good luck!

I understand the sentiment, but wouldn't her father also understand that you don't want to go through all the trouble again and pay another fee? Frankly, I've met a couple at my interview who already did a "mock" marriage beforehand. Just the ceremony and reception, but without a license or anything. Because it was the only time that her family could get together. Maybe consider something like this before losing all your progress
This is potentially dangerous advice to give - if it looks too much like a wedding, even if nothing official gets signed - they could reject the K1 because they consider them already married and therefore no longer eligible for a fiance visa and that would have some not-so-pleasant repercussions if other people here on VJ are to be believed (and I have no reason to question them).
-
This might be naive - but why don't YOU just file the divorce papers that are sitting at your place if she'd already signed them. You might have to pay the filing fee, but should still be less than if she dragged things out and you start your new career.
Re what she could potentially do to you: She could claim physical abuse and file for removal of conditions under VAWA - be careful not to be alone with her. (Check the forum for people who've been taken for that by searing for VAWA).
I'd file the papers you have (keep the envelope etc an make copies before you do) and get her out of your life ASAP. If she can prove that you have both entered the marriage legitimately she could probably still remove conditions by herself but that wouldn't really be your problem anymore (though not sure about the affidavit of support if she uses means tested benefits).
Sorry you're going through this!

Looks like the Meitifs are planning to sue and this law Prof seems to think they would win...

Never ever lie on the forms! I'm not sure what degree of relation they are interested in, that might be in the instructions but I would just list it. My brother has been living here in the US since before we filed K1 and no one even mentioned that at any state of the game...
