The guy thought it was OK and acceptable to blow up a government building and machine gun teenagers on holiday. I think most people would find that extreme, to say the least...

No, your lousy few tax pennies didn't pay for this. The Max Planck Institute is a German institution with several branches all over that country and funded mainly with German public funds - yes, Germany still supports sciences and research. Folks there are not quite as short-sighted as they are on this side of the big pond. Anyway, fair resource distribution has nothing to do with you sharing what you earn with those that do nothing. You'd be able to grasp that if you weren't so paranoid or, according to this (and other) studies, if you weren't so apelike.

Paul, you can't see the forest for the trees. Our country, much like many businesses, is competing in a global economy. The fact is that we have lost in terms of competitive advantage over the last few decades. The question is, how do we regain some of that advantage? With investments into technologies and resources of the future or with subsidies for those of the past? With investments into a better educated workforce or by scaling back on the investment into tomorrow's workforce? With investments into a competitive infrastructure or by letting our infrastructure crumble? I think the answers are clear.

From what I read the opinion in dispute was about Affirmative Action being intended to grant historically disadvantaged people access to achieve (either in education or jobs). Yet somehow Slim's interpretation of this ignores the part about access and instead insinuates that ZS supports giving untalented or unskilled people an advantage over other people regardless of merit (and seemingly ignores an earlier post which conceded that the concept of Affirmative Action is outdated).
You can't reach such conclusions unless you misread what is written.

The opposite of spending money is receiving money....So technically more tax revenue = less spending.....Oh, I forgot, you believe tax cuts = more tax revenue. How does that work again?

Obama the Socialist will just go and tell Blacks that he had to lower everyones economic prospects but now that he has achieved that he will be able to in his second term to concentrate on making sure Blacks are over compensated. They will by it big time. After all when their hopes are dashed again he will already be in office and can't run again anyway.

Now assembly jobs. Hmmm. I wonder where assembly jobs can be reassigned to. Maybe into the design/manufacture sectors of this new technology.
Then again, are you now not defending something the market will probably want? Think about this.
But nice retarded insult. It took you a while to come up with that I bet.

Pretty much the only science discussion in this thread thus far- beyond the predictably irrelevant knee-jerks from supporters of the manufacture of anti-psychotics. Your problem here, Steven, is that you should stick to discussing science from a non-political perspective in a non-political part of this site, where perhaps you won't get lunatics thinking that climate researchers should seek jobs in pharmaceuticals or in biotech.

    Yay for choice!
Because all pathogens are washable off of foods, this is yet another example of government intruding into our personal lives.
I wonder how we can manage to wash the internal content of fruits, veggies, milk, cheese, meats, eggs, etc.

Why is a law like this necessary? Historic contributions are taught based on their relevance. Nobody goes into detail about the sexual orientation of most historic figures because it is typically not relevant to their contribution. That is, if Albert Einstein slept with men (honestly, I don't know much about his personal life) we would talk about him in relation to special relativity. It is irrelevant who he slept with. There is speculation that Alexander the Great was bisexual. But we talk about him in world history because he conquered most of the known world.
