Global Warming? How about sustainable energy? How about embarking on the trip towarsds future energy rather than subsidizing yesterday's energy? How about leading rather than being led. How about not allowing oneself to go from one dependency (oil) to another (future energy technology)?
Oh, and I have yet to see any good point that was presented here. Chuck had half a point in regards to the hot weather in parts of this country. That's a non-issue, though. I live in a pretty hot spot and my electric bill sure isn't killing me. In fact, when rates went up, my electric bill went down. Thanks in large part to my investment into an energy efficient A/C unit. We installed it about two eyars ago and it'll have paid for itself by the end of the summer.

The problem with this thinking is Human migration is a force of nature and can not be harnessed. When the Tsunami hits you can stand on the beach and scream ugly names at it, but you are going to take a beating in the process. If you head to the hills you might have a strategy that can help you survive it. Immigration reform is the "conservative" economic strategy to dealing with a force of nature.
Crimigration of the Immigration process is like screaming on the beach. Why do you think DHS now encompasses USCIS? The big government conservatives want to profit off this natural disaster, but us taxpayers are going to take a severe beating in the process. The same people that clean up the Oil Spills and Hurricanes and Tornadoes now clean up the "people spills". Buy some stock in CCA.
Look at what we spend to deport less people than left on their own many years ago. We have created a situation where people are discouraged to leave, and if you don't believe that pop over to the I601 forum or go visit I2us.net. We have bad laws on the books. US Citizens families are being torn apart every day. What kind of government creates a law that splits a family that contains a US Citizens? Take the pregnant wife of a two time Gulf War Veteran out of her house at gunpoint and shoot her over the border on a bus while she is carrying a US Citizen and a US Citizens child... are you frigging kidding me?
We screw up the economy in Mexico so we can build the second wave of the Prison Industrial Complex, and we lose our national soul in the process. We don't need to make America a police state. Migrants move where it is safe and they can sustain themselves our constitution was written to protect everyone who is here legal and undocumented. We hold these truths to be self evident.

I'm not going to get into with the anti-immigration crowd (yes, there are some here who are more or less against immigration) and I'll explain why:

You say, it's illegal immigration that you are against, not legal immigration, but when solutions to the current problems of having millions of undocumented people in this country, anything short of deporting them you regard as being pro-illegal, and you aren't willing to compromise. No path to legalization, not even for children brought here, no guest worker program. Yet interestingly - you yourself have benefited from being able to bring a foreigner into this country by simply marrying them. When U.S. immigration history is brought up, like the fact that Europeans essentially invaded this land and claimed it their own, you dismiss that as not being relevant because it happened long ago. Yet, the mere thought of offering a legal pathway for those who've been here several years makes you break out in hives.
See, the real argument is over immigration. You disguise your dislike around the word 'illegal' but offer no concessions or compromises for legal avenues for those who are already here. Some openly admit they want to limit immigration into this country (like peejay). So those who offer no compromise and no concessions to our current situation are either anally-retentive a$holes who only think about themselves and their foreign spouses, or xenophobic, or racist....or perhaps a little of all three. All the arguments as to why you aren't willing to make any concessions or compromise short of deportation points to that reality. So GFY.

Wrong. When you mix students of different abilities together in one classroom, all the students can succeed. The ones who are brighter benefit from learning how to interact with those who perhaps aren't as bright. As well, those same students learn how to adapt. Because in the real world, people think, learn, and move at different levels, regardless of what industry they're in. The slower students learn valuable critical thinking, discussion, and practice skills from students who are brighter. They also learn that they can set higher goals for themselves.
Bright students who are constantly told they are elite will continue to think this without necessarily further challenging themselves. They also do not always recognize their limits.
Slower students often get pigeon-holed into a category because they (and the people around them) think they "can't" do something. At least through secondary education students should be well-rounded and study all the disciplines.
And the NCLB Act was total and utter ####### because it prevents teachers from actually teaching and altering their lessons to their particular students.

He's an American citizen. He provided the documentation necessary. Hmm...did anyone ask for Bush's "long form birth certificate"? Or Reagan's? Or Clinton's? etc?
Is it because our president has a name that people are suspicious of? Because he's black? Because his father is from Africa?
I think this whole thing is absolutely ridonkulous.

I am anti-illegal immigration and certainly not a xenophobe. I do support rational avenues to legalization in certain cases that are beneficial to the nation.
This does not mean that some attitudes in the anti-illegal crusade are eerily reminiscent of racism and xenophobia.
Well if they turn legal, they could get employed at double the wage then. I think what you may mean is that it is the employers that are pressing the wage market lower by preferring illegal labor.
