  1. Hi all!

So I got hold of the NVC (FINALLY!) and found out that my interview is on January 10th, less than a month away!!! So, I have a few questions:

    1) We never received notice in the mail that our case was completed in September. Now, they say it takes 2 to 4 weeks to get the interview letter/required paperwork...what happens if I don't get this on time?! Can I show up to the interview without the letter? Can I get them to e-mail it to me?

    2) Since I want to prepare, is there a list of required documents somewhere so that I can start compiling them?

    3) I had the medical for K-3 in May. Do I have to do another one for the I-130 interview?

    4) I REALLY need to know how long I can expect to be at the consulate because I would love to go home right after the interview but the latest flight out is at 1:40 p.m. Is there a snowball's chance in hell that I could POSSIBLY make that flight after the interview? I really really don'wanna fly home on thursday morning and go to work grrr

    5) They kept my original police certificate after the K-3 Interview so all I have are copies...is this good enough? Or do I have to get another one?

    OMG it's almost over!!!

First of all congratulations on the interview!!

If the letter dosent arrive by the time you think you should have it then you must contact the Embassy/Consulate as you will need the letter to be allowed into the Embassy/Consulate!!

Medicals are good for a year, you can use the same medical for your CR1 that you used for your K3 , I Did!!........the only difference with a K3, vs CR1 is for CR1 you have to of had all the required vaccinations!!

Police certificate, you will need the original!.....................why after your K3 didnt you keep the original & the embassy/consulate keep the copy, thats what i did at my K3, so i was able to use it at my CR1 interview!

Good luck with the interview

Well, the thing is that they kept the ORIGINAL of my police certificate at the K3 interview. Maybe it was a mistake on their part, but I don't have the original anymore :( Do I need to get another one or is a copy good enough?

I thought it was 6 months for the medical, not one year...are you sure?

    Thanks!

You will need a new police certificate!!

I know for SURE the medical for London is a year maybe not for all countries, you might want to ask in the canadian forum!!

The embassy/consulate want to see all original + 1 copy, they keep the copy, so they will more than likely want to see an original police certificate BUT try emailing them & explain they kept your original when you interviewed for your K3 but you still have a copy, & could you use it!!

  3. Dear all,

According to the automated response, our case was completed by NVC on 21st November 06. Our packet was forwarded to the London Embassy on 28th November.

Can anyone tell us if the NVC sends a letter to beneficiaries to confirm that the case was completed? Is this done at the same time that they send paperwork to the embassy? We emailed the NVC to ask about this and they managed to respond without answering our questions.

We called the London Embassy a few days ago and they said they hadn't yet received our paperwork.

We're just curious because the NVC automated response says "please allow x weeks and we will contact you". We haven't been contacted however and the only way we know about the completion is by phoning NVC on a regular basis.

Any experience or advice is appreciated. Many thanks and good luck on your visa journies!

    Scouseredneck

Yes eventualy NCV will send a letter to the petitioner to say the file has been sent to London, dont call the embassy number as its a call center in Scotland  , you will be best emailing London direct, normaly it takes around 2 calendar months from case complete to interview!!

    Good luck

  4. Just learnt this morning that our case has been completed at the NVC!!:dance::dance:

Now I'm wondering: does anyone know how long it takes London to schedule a green card interview after they receive the stuff from NVC?

I have of course looked it up and seen responses varying from two weeks (although I think that was a K3) but there's another Green Card UK couple on here who have been waiting since the beginning of October and not got an interview date yet.

The official info is that London takes 4-12 weeks.

Is that 4-12 weeks to SCHEDULE an interview, which is then another 4 weeks? Or is that 4-12 weeks between receiving package and having the interview? Because I seem to remember that when you get your interview letter through, the interview is usually scheduled about a month in advance.

Any info would be much appreciated!

It works out as close to 2 calendar months from case complete

  5. yes i understand both go through security screening, my question is since the i-130 got approved without any further administrative reviews, can't the k-3 go through likewise. I'm trying to figure out why the K-3 is taking so long to get approved than the I-130.

As these are totaly different petitions processed at different places, your I-130 was approved without an hitch, that dosent mean that your K3 couldnt be slowed down for administrative reviews!!!.............or it just could be that the I-129f for K3 is much slower these days!!!

  6. I agree with fwaguy that it is typically done by the county and not the city. You should contact the county the marriage took place in for the answer. This really doesn't seem like a big deal, hope you get it sorted out.

thank you.you guys are so kind and helpful. do you know what kind of department we'd be looking for at the county, would it be a town hall or something?

City Hall is the place where you would of got your marriage license from, did you>??..............did you get your license & then after your wedding did you get your marriage certificate??

    EDITED to give e.g..................

I also got married in the US........we went to Detroit city hall to get the license, after the wedding we went back to city hall with the signed license & they converted it into a marriage certificate!!........BUT not all states are the same here its all on the same paper license & certificate.....other states may issue seperate bits of paper

  7. I have been going through the forms I-130 and G-325a that we have been told to fill out. We looked at the G 235a form and its asking for hubbies assets.

Now we only have $10,000 savings at this time, but will come into another $20,000 (aus) by June.

Will having only $10,000 in savings now affect the application? Will they deny it on that?

We are getting a joint sponsor (Hubbies mate and wife who earn combined $40,000 USD per year), but we don't file the joint sponsor form till later on right?

Also its asking hubbies yearly income. Does that mean his income now, or his US income (none as he's worked here for 5yrs)

    Thanks

    EMerald

If you are only just filing the I-130 & G-325a out then you have lots of time before you file a affidavit of support, I-864 which i think is probably the form you are refering to??..........................when my husband filled out this form, he didnt put any assets all he chose to put on the form was his annual earnings, & backed that up with tax returns, he didnt put the house or anything else on there!!

  8. Hello! I'm traveling to Tanzania in January to be with my fiance for a few months. We've been trying to figure out where it would be best to get married / what type of visa would be best for us. In the case that we decide to file for a IR-1/CR-1, we'd have to get married in Tanzania. How do I obtain proof that I am single and legally able to get married?

Also, was the IR-1/CR-1 process hellishly long for those who have gone through it? It's tempting because it's so much cheaper than the K-1 process, but I don't really want to be away from my fiance any longer than I have to.

    Thanks!

The CR1 process is a long process but worth it!!, and also its not really any cheaper than the K1 process, all the same fee's have to be payed for both!!....just at different times, with the CR1 you will pay the fee's at NVC that you would pay anyway for AOS with a K1!!

as proving your single, well all i can say is you cant unless you have divorce papers??.....other than that its all based on "your word"!!

  9. Good Luck for tomorrow Lansbury and PJA002, sure you will do just fine

Amanda, you have been a busy little bee :o) the list looks good though

 hahahaha thanks, it was driving me nuts, nothing was "inline"................ .............maybe that says summat about me

  10. I 'm in a big pickle right now!! I have my K3 interview on the 13th Nov which is great BUT the NVC sent my complete CR1 case to the Embassy 6 days ago ( they dont have it yet)

I emailed the embassy to say that the NVC had completed my case and could i interview for the CR1 on he 13th instead of the K3. I sent the email over 12 days ago and have still not had a response. So I called the London embassy today and they couldnt tell me anything!! The girl was not very nice on the phone either! :(

To top things off I am sick from the MMR vaccination I had to get at the medical! ( which i already had)

I really dont know what to do!! I really want to interview for the CR1 and dont want to have to come back to the UK for it!! I booked my flight for the USA for the 11th Dec but i guess that can be changed if need be! Has anyone else had this problem or in the same boat??

    Sorry for the moan!!

    Happy halloween Everyone!

    becca x

From case complete @NVC to interview in London is normaly 2 months..................I doubt you will beable to change your K3 interview to a CR1 interview...................I think the best option is either cancel the K3 interview & wait for your CR1 interview to be scheduled, keep emailing them & fingers crossed, you could end up lucky & if they have input your CR1 case into the computer you MIGHT if your lucky get the switch..........Good Luck

  11. I hope you hear very soon Val (L)

  12. im filing my petition I-130 for my wife in the phlippines on oct 31.

after ill get the receipt from I-130 ill be doing I-129f right away.

    my question is....

how long does it take (months) for the visa council or embassy to let me present my affidavit of support for my wife after all those applications were approved.??????

the reason why im asking this is because i am going to quit my job as a registered nurse and spend my time with my wife in the phlippines until i need to present my affidavit of support. by the time that i need to present my affidavit of support, that will be the time ill come back to the states and look for a job right away since i understand that in order to present affidavit of support, i need to have a job.

though i have enough savings on my bank right now.

help me guys, i just miss my wife so so much. i cant stand being away from her.

thanks guys. i love you all.

It will be months before you have to submit your affidavit of support!!.how many months is like asking how long is a piece of string!!..............but it will be a few months at least!!

  13. Can somebody tell me the number sequence to press to speak to an operator when calling the department of state...

Ive tried searching but am unable to find it

    Thanks in advance

press 1, 1, 0 or that is what it used to be.

    Department of State is DOS

    DOS

    202 663 1225

    Press options 1,0,4,3,0

Use these options to talk to a live operator.

I used options 1, 0, 0 after calling 202-663-1225 and I was able to speak with an operator live.

I used the 202-663-1225 number too.....then as soon as its answered you press 1-1-0

  14. Hi all,

As per the post, I saw 4 cases has transfered to different service center for processing such as California and Vermont. Chicago is the only one handle K-3 neither Vermont nor California. Please post your views.

    Thanks

Chicago dont process the form either, its just where you mail it to, they tranfer (in the past) to Missouri.....it seems they have since started tranfering to other service center's

  15. At this point, this is essentialy a CR1 now, right? So James's shortcuts should be applicable? Deffinetly some new studying to do, this was an unexpected (but pleasant) turn.

Yes CR1 & James short cuts!! CR1 is the best visa of the 2(K3)...........it can take 3 months to get through NVC, or as little as 60days, then after case complete you have to wait for a interview to be scheduled  .......................so dont give up on the K3 you could still get that first, &maybe if that happens return to Canada for CR1 interview??....................you have options now, but i will say agin the CR1 is the better Visa!!

good luck on which ever route you choose

  16. I entered on K3 & CR!..............both pretty straight forward!!

K3 POE was philly, they took my Brown envelope & me into secondary to be processed,I was told to collect my luggage first before going to secondary, the whole processing took about 20 minutes as lots of brown envelopes going through Philly at the same time, they did'nt ask me anything they processed it all while i sat in the waiting area, when they had done they called me up to give me my passport back, with the I-94 stapled in!! & they explained the AOS process to me!!.

I went back to England for my CR1 interview & entered at Chicago POE, i stood inline at the "Visitor" line, i handed in my brown envelope, then was told to go to the end desk to be processed, the officer throw my white I-94 away saying i didnt need one!!, he then took finger print for my greencard, stamped my visa & explained this was my temp greencard untill the actualy card arrived, he was very nice!!, took 5 minutes
