  1. A friend of mine who I have been helping through the process is very concerned. His fiancée went to St Lukes for the medical and the x-ray was questionable according to St Lukes. She had to return for three days last week for the (Phlegm test) where you have to cough into a specimen jar to check for active TB. This was Tues-Thurs last week with a consultation with a doctor on Friday. The doctor told her that the test turned up negative but it was still up to the embassy if a visa will be issued. Her exact words were, "you have a 50-50 chance". This seems very strange to me as the test came up negitive and St Lukes never took a second x-ray to see if the problem was just a bad film, isn't she the doctor? I really haven't come across someone posting with this chain of events so I don't know what to tell my friend. She had to return to St Lukes on Monday, yesterday, for vaccinations and was given her passport back with a note stating that medical results were being transferred to the embassy. She has never been sick or showed signs of any active TB. She is about 8hrs from the interview and just hoping that everyone can send her a prayer or just a "good Luck". Here hoping for the best!!!

  2. I called the Philippine Consulate (PC) in Los Angeles, California and they have no idea how to update my Baby's Passport/Visa with her married name. We're getting married next Friday. The PC recommended that I call the USE (yes.. in Manila). Who's on first? No, third base... LOL!

Look on the Philippino US website for downloadable forms. You will need to complete the notice of marriage and the request to ammend passport. Lots of requirement for a stamp and some hand written notes in the passport to reflect her new name.

  3. I am also interested in what happened at the initial medical exam date. When the x-rays were taken, what happened then? I have a friend who's fiancee had her medical recently. They have asked her to come back for three days of phlem testing. Did the same happen to you? When did they inform the girl she had active TB? Thanks, Marilyn and Peter.

That is what I am asking. They only way to tell if it is active is a combination of test, not just an xray and labs results take a couple of days. Unless she was showing symptoms, which he says she was not, I'd get a second opinion like at Makati Medical or even St Lukes without telling them the results of the scheduled medical. Let us know what you find out. Payato

My understanding, after doing some research, is that "Phlem" testing, is searching for respiratory diseases, including but not limited to TB. Phlem has to do with mucas in a persons airway, which is a breeding ground for bacteria and even a cause of bad breath. That bacteria breeding ground could be the means at which TB blossoms in the body or other unkind diseases. Testing of that mucas, i believe, is just to seeing what bad things may reside there. It could be somthing or nothing. My research has not said how long it would take to do the tests. Hopefully it will come out that your friend is just fine. Instead of the 3 days, she was told go back to St Luke's, 9 later.

On the day of and while at the medical exam, she showed signs of the TB. Prior to that day, she had no symptoms at all, but she did have symptoms that day. Including bleeding of the mouth, though very minor. That bleeding, she thought maybe she bit her tongue or had a bad tooth or something. TB was the last thing that crossed her mind.

She is taking medicine daily. Thank you!

Thanks for the update. My friends fiancee is at St Lukes right now, in her second of three days of Phlem testing. They didn't tell her she failed the exam when she arrived. Thanks for the info and I will submit an update when I know more news. Thanks!

  4. St. Lukes discovered that she had active TB! She is undergoing treatment and will not be eligible for her interview in 6 months. No one knew of her aliment until she went to the medical exam, about a week early. St Lukes told her that they canceled the interview, for now.

Ok, what do they mean active TB? Did she test postive for exposure (most common) or did they run labs and xrays to determine if she has TB? The treatment is 9 months not 6... my daughter and I both tested postive for exposure. If she has active TB, make sure she gets the proper treatment and medications.

I would think all you would have to do is contact the Embassy and reschedule the interview since you have a medical justification for delaying it and her missing the interview. Good Luck, Payato

  5. hipcat,

Point of clarification: no, she did not immigrate to the US.

Stepping out of character for a moment and making a judgement based on insufficient information - the guy is a cad, no matter what his reason for changing his mind. He has done this woman a terrible disservice.

    Yodrak

My wife's friend recently immigrated to the US on a K1 visa and when she got here her fiancee decided he didn't want to get married. ...

I think the first "he" was a typo. The poster refers to the K-1 as a "she" in the rest of the post.

  6. Visa Applicants Must Use Electronic Application Form as of November 1

To speed the application process for a non-immigrant visa to the United States, the U.S. Embassy will require all visa applicants after November 1, 2006, to use an electronic application form available for free on the Internet. This form must be completed and presented to the Embassy on the date of your visa interview.

For the full story (Manila Embassy Website) - CLICK HERE

I am curious if this applies to K-1's and K-3's, which are technically non-immigrant visa's but handled by the immigrant visa section. In the last part of the posting, it seems to describe the procedures that non-immigrant visa applicants can use, like calling to schedule an appointment and visa-point that K-1's and K-3's cannot use. If this is the case, then people who have November interview dates should be provided this information in the K-packets and not blank copies of the forms.

    I want my RFE!!!!!!!!!

March 7th and still no RFE ??? I have read some of this members post and I am SHOCKED! We all need to band together and do something - any suggestions what we could all band together and do?

    TucsonBill,

A few of us are already working on ways to bring attention to profound problems within the current system USCIS is using. If you're interested, you can contact me about it via PM or email. Oddly, a lot of people say they want to do something, but then don't seem to really budge...

I've been writing letters. I've also been exploring means to get wider media attention. True enough that the more of us that are focusing our efforts, the more people are likely to sit up and take notice.

The current system not only propagates lengthy and unnecessary delays, but charges unnecessary fees and compromises national security. There's nothing good about it. Change has been needed for some time, but while everyone seems to talk alot about it, no one ever does anything. The Ombudsman reports, and the increasing level of frustration they indicate, are proof positive. Unfortunately, that same apathy seems to exist at the customer level. "Just sit and wait. Everyone has to. It'll all be over some day." That's not good enough for me. It shocks me again and again that it seems to be good enough for so many. And as I've said repeatedly now...If you think the petition phase is bad, wait till you see what's coming with AOS...It's gonna get much worse...

I felt the same when I was going through the process and 150 - 250 days just getting through the NSC and TSC was the norm. I wrote to just about anyone you can think of, including the Pres and VP and got the standard "we will look into the situation" bullcrap letters. We, people petitioning to bring foreign nationals over to the US are a very small minority in the country as a whole and also within the group of people dealing with the USCIS. Petitions have been made before and haven't produced any changes. About the only thing that might work is a lawsuit, but what do you claim is the wrong committed? USCIS doesn't promise to process petitions within a given amount of time. You could state that anyone not serviced by the Vermont service center is not getting equal treatment, then they would just slow down Vermont to match the other service centers.

When Marilyn and I were going through the process, it felt like forever. Looking back, it wasn't as bad as it seemed at the time and also brought us closer together as we endured the wait. You know what they say, "anything worth wide is worth waiting for." Take care, Marilyn and Peter.

AOS isn't worse. Even though you still deal with the same incompetent government workforce, you have your husband or wife there beside you. Marilyn and I had to deal with the wrong middle name on the green card, repeated trips over an hour away each time to get it corrected, but she was with me so it doesn't seem so bad. I have been dealing with government workers for 10 years, not just in the USCIS and let me tell you, things are NOT going to change.

    Take care, Marilyn and Peter.

  9. To,

Everyone who was interested in our case being denied... (L)

I retained an attorney to appeal our case this morning . Of course, there are NO guarantees of an approval.

We felt it was our only recourse at this point, so this is where we are at as of right now.

We want to thank those who sent us PM's and were concerned, and also those who posted encouraging words in my recent thread, and the many prayers that went out to us out of brotherly/sisterly love.

There had been some questions concerning this denial. I can tell you that when we filed , we filed under a hardship. I do not want people thinking their case will be denied because ours was. Each case, as we all know, is different in it's own right.

Keep us in your prayers, it is going to be a rough road ahead.

God Bless you all ! (F)

    Jabree and Hitham

I am sorry to tell you that you will not succeed and will spend money on a wasted effort with the lawyer. Please read from the link below and think about possible ways to physically meet.

Good luck and take care, Marilyn and Peter.

  10. am1996: This forum is one of the most agreeable ones I've ever been on (with perhaps the exception of "off topic" sometimes). The fact is every thread I have seen you post in has turned into a frustrating slanging match. This doesn't seem to happen to anyone else, at some point you have to realise that it's your attitude on here that's causing the friction and not everyone else.

Someone really needs to lock this thread.

This poster am1996 is very similar to another lawyer that used to post here, Matt Udall Very similar, Hmmm. Just like this poster, he was very arrogant and dimwitted to the way of the real world of immigration and the USCIS. Can you imagine walking into a USCIS office and quoting legal citations? Telling an officer that the REAL meaning of this law is such and such and they are wrong. He also seemed to have all the time in the world to respond to each and every post almost immediately right after people created them. When everyone on the board finally got wise to how terrible he was, he left and demanded that items he had contributed to this board be taken down. I asked him if he picked up his pacifier on the way out. Hmm, very similar and just as dense.

    Marilyn and Peter.
