Hi, fellow VJers! I moved to the US in September 2023 on an IR1 visa. I have recently (April, 2024) started working here. My husband has been filing his taxes as MFJ for the last few years and I have always signed the docs. He says I don't need to file taxes this year as I had no US income until now. Is this true? And if I do need to file despite having no income, is it too late to do so? Will it create a problem if I file now? Your advice is much appreciated.

I have a NVC interview for CR1 visa scheduled very soon. My year 2023 Tax transcript will not be ready by that time. Hence planning to take year 2023 W2 along with pay stubs and filed income tax returns documents. My question is in I-864 form I have put my company DBA (Doing Business As) name as employer name but my W2 and paystub mentions parent company name. Will this be an issue while Consular appointment interview and any further documentation needed to prove that DBA company name on W2 is indeed employer name I put in I-864 form? Really appreciate if anyone can clarify and provide help.

I m looking for some insight, my husband had his interview ( Mumbai, India ) in January of this year. The counselor officer requested he submit more documentation , they did not keep his passport. All requested documentation was submitted within two weeks. Since February, there has been 11 times so far the date has changed when we check the case status. As for status itself, it continues to read Refused . Has anyone experienced several date changes , before receiving an actual decision? Can this be a good or bad thing ? Thanks for sharing any experience or knowledge.

My husband got social security card while on K1 with married name, which says "Valid for work only with DHS authorization". Now that his AOS is approved and we are waiting for physical green card before he can start to work, do we need to take another trip to social security office before he can officially work?
