    To answer my own question, the answer is yes! i asked the agent at the consulate and i was able to pick it up the next day. I would assume this is case by case

    Hi All, I'm hoping to stay in Auckland after my K1 interview (if its approved) to pick up my passport/visa as our response to packet 3 got temporarily lost in the post on the way to Auckland this week and we don't want to risk that again! Is it possible to pick it up at the Consulate? Has anyone done this? Thanks
