:help: !!HELP!! :help: (you can skip down if you dont want all the diaglogue)

Called the 'expensive number' today after getting no replies to our emails regarding not receiving Packet 3 (London). [Was told by NVC that our K3 petition was sent to London on 9/22.]

They told us that they were mailed out on 9/28 !!!! OMG

The first person we talked to said "Its been 3 weeks - it must be lost, you should download the forms from the consulates website and send them in" then got off the phone as quickly as she could!!

So, we called back [me in the US, my wife in the UK - hooked up via BT landline + Skype :) ]

The next person was a bit more helpfull.

They told us to download the forms (actually providing a specific URL this time):

http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/.../visaforms.html (We knew this one from VJ already)

Then advised the following forms:

DS156 x2

DS230

DS156K (they did say that it was needed, even for the K3)

IV-15

"Send off the forms immediately, and the checklist once complete" - I asked which initiated the interview and was told " the COMPLETED checklist" - so we'll obviously get them sent at the same time.

BUT - we explained that IV-15 (on the site) links to a list in webpage format, not an official form - but they didnt seem to understand - "thats the one you need, send it back" ... ??

>>So I believe we'll have to print it out as a webpage and tick it off in pen !! Is that right ? (unless anyone has a scanned copy, please, please :) )

They then told us that the medical would be set after the first forms are received.

Lastly - they gave us another option which was to email (:() the consulate and request the Packet be sent again !!!!

OMG - This puts us back 3 weeks !! So we dont want to go the route of requesting the packet again - we can just imagine that would take even more time.

With pointers from other kind member we've already assembled the DS230 and DS156's.

So our main q's are:

1) Do we print out the IV-15 webpage and tick it off?

2) DS230 on the London Consular site (above) expires 2004 - is this what is in London Packet 3 ? I know a 2007 version exists on the NVC site - whick one to use?

Thanks so much for any help!

(I'm going to go and have a cry with my wife (on Skype) )

First thing, breath. B)

2) DS230 on the London Consular site (above) expires 2004 - is this what is in London Packet 3 ? I know a 2007 version exists on the NVC site - whick one to use?[/b]

I'd use the newest form.

"Send off the forms immediately, and the checklist once complete" - I asked which initiated the interview and was told " the COMPLETED checklist" - so we'll obviously get them sent at the same time.

I might be wrong since english is my second language, but to me a checklist is just that, a checklist - i.e. a list of things you check. It is not a form you have to fill. I think you could type a list of the documents included in packet 3 and then print it.

Anyone with more knowlegde than myself, please feel free to correct me here.

Good luck.

The IV-15 could be printed out but not sent, it is for your information, and instruction.

You should fill out, sign, and return to them:

DS-2001 (This is the Check List you sign and return)

http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/.../DS2001list.pdf

OF-230 PART 1 only.

http://travel.state.gov/pdf/DS-0230.pdf (If London is pointing to the older one they will probably accept it)

Or use the newer one.

http://foia.state.gov/FORMS/visa/ds0230.pdf

DS-156K

http://travel.state.gov/pdf/DS-0156k.pdf

DS-156 (Online version it will generate a bar coded form)

http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/...electronic.html

https://evisaforms.state.gov/ds156.asp?lang=1

DS-157 http://travel.state.gov/pdf/DS-0157.pdf

Good luck.

We're breathing a bit better now, thanks JaJo and YuAndDan !

I had thought the DS2001 was only used for the IR/CR1 - I'll stand corrected if wrong, can any London folk confirm?

(the help line person specifically said IV-15 - hence the confusion) if nothing definitive comes back - we will send both the DS2001 and a printed out and checked ("ticked") copy of the IV-15 list.

Also have noted that the DS-156K on the London Consulate site expires 2004 ! and again NVC form page has a newer version !

DS157 isn't needed as my wife is the benificiary, so wont send that.

Thanks everyone!

Dont know what many of us would do without VJ members help !!

Hi,

I sent off the DS2001 and the rest of the forms mainly because my packet 3 didnt arrive so it was thought it got lost so when i called the embassy in London about it they just said to download and print off the forms online including the DS2001, then a few days later my packet 3 arrived much to my dismay, so i filled out the IV-15 and sent that back as well, i guess from what i was told on the helpline that either one is acceptable but i sent the IV-15 off just to be sure.

No your wife doesnt need to fill out the DS157 - thats for male beneficiaries or male children that your wife may have thats going with her, but if she's going on her own then she doesnt need it.

Hope this helps

My pack 3 took 5 weeks to be actioned - from date of sending.

When you ring the expensive number their systems are not updated regularly - so the info they give you is not up to date - e-mail isn't that much better either.

When I suggested that I should send in further copies of everything they suggested that I SHOULD NOT provide duplicates until 6 weeks has passed

Not sure what you are talking about with the DS2001.....?

*Please see thread above - post from YuAndDan

>As we never recieved the actual IV-15 check list (Packet 3 lost) we printed out the list from the London Consulate's site and sent it in addition to the DS2001 - which is the notice of Application readiness and Checklist. (They are very similar in actual content)

and you give them your pay slip at the interview!!!!!!

>We called the Visa information line and were very specifically told to send it with the DS-156! Even after repeating the question in a different way.

And you do sign the 156. The 230 isn't signed.

a ) Hmm, I think you'll find that you have to sign DS230 Part I - its part 2 you dont sign.

b ) When we 1st reviewed signing the DS156 we found completely conflicting information on the London Consulate site:-

First look at: http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/...processing.html

It clearly states " Note: Please do not sign the the DS-156 or DS-156K. The forms must be signed before a consular officer on the day of the visa interview."

However look at: http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/...electronic.html

And it says to sign it !

My thought was that the DS156 is a multiple use form and when used for a standard Non-Immigrant Visa, may need to be signed. However, there exists specific instructions for those applying for K-xx visa's to the contrary.

Now the DS-156K specifically says not to sign it - so no doubts on that one. (we were told to submit it even for the K3 - and even though one of the questions is nonsensical for K3 married couples)

In reality, as I think I'm coming to realize here, is that there is more than one way to skin a cat (as they say).

We are all very nervous about making mistakes on these forms - because the fear of having a packet sent back for an error is all too real !

It not right (incredibly frustrating) that we get conflicting information, the Visa Information line is an external call center and a bit removed from the Visa Unit - they dont leave you feeling that you have the correct answers to your questions. (I dont know if they have some newbies there).

Well, the Packet's been sent now, but if anyone has further input, we'd be glad to hear it (I'd rather get some replacements ready now while Its fresh).

Happy Weekend to everyone!

>We called the Visa information line and were very specifically told to send it with the DS-156! Even after repeating the question in a different way.

If the visa info line gives conflicting info (as you pointed out) STOP USING THEM! Use VJ as your resource. Everyone else on VJ gives the pay slip at interview. The guides tell you to. The consulate's checklist (I know you did not get but you did see online) tells you to not send anything but the forms back.

a ) Hmm, I think you'll find that you have to sign DS230 Part I - its part 2 you dont sign.

I know that, I was not aware i had to spell everything out. Directions on the forms are in English! I linked to the EXAMPLE FORMS online, I figured you could read that yourself. See guides for 156 as well. The example forms have been used by HUNDREDS of VJers, probably thousands.

It's not rocket science here. If the forms are wrong, the consulate will tell you and I can assure you it won't be the end of the world.
