Replacement of Green card

On Nov 21, 2004 I got approval of my 2 year conditional permanent residency. A week later I received my green card in the mail with my first name misspelled. Since I considered it a USCIS error, I filed the I-90 and sent back the card using certified mail. My application was received on Dec 14, 2004. After that began a long wait for an NOA but I got none. Finally on February 21, 2006 I made an infopass appointment to speak with an Immigration Officer. The officer told me to wait for another 2-3 months and if I still didn’t hear anything to come back and see them. She gave me a temporary I-551 stamp in my passport for 3 months. Needless to say I still didn’t hear anything from USCIS and so at the end of May I went back to the office and spoke to another Immigration Officer. He said he would try and check my case and let me know if there was any record of my application. He was really nice and a few days later we got a call from him saying that he had checked and USCIS had no record of ever receiving my I-90 application despite the certified mail receipt I had. He advised me to file another I-90 for replacement of a lost card and pay the $270 fee. I e-filed the application and received my first NOA on May 31, 2006. Three months later we hadn’t heard anything so went back for an Infopass Appointment and this time got a 1 year stamp in my passport. In the meantime my biometrics appointment letter got sent to my old address (we moved and I filed all the paperwork and called about change of address but it didn’t help) and I missed my appointment by 3 weeks. Finally I made it for my biometrics on September 12, 2006 and received my card in the mail yesterday October 6, 2006!

So that’s our story. Am glad and relieved that I finally got my card.

But you are allowed to work with that case? you had it already but just that there was an error?

Lol, just in time to file I-751!

Yes its taken a long time! I was able to work because i kept getting these I551 stamps in my passport saying that i was allowed to work and reside here in the States.
