When should I worry?

At what point should I worry about not hearing anything regarding the visa? I received my first NOA on September 4th. I know it's ultimately not in my hands. I'm just wondering if it's a good thing or bad thing that it is taking a while.

Don't worry yet. I got my first NOA 7/13 and haven't heard anything yet either. I'd relax for a while and try not to think about it too much. I have been hearing on the boards here that mine should be very soon as they are working on the vicinity of my date now so if yours is september it's going to be a little while yet.

Some people seem to have their case "touched" while others don't so if you signed up for online updates and don't see anything don't worry too much. It's not worth the stress. I've seen many posters here say theirs never got touched according to the uscis online updates, but their cases were all approved.

in the end, of course, nothing can predict your dates with any certainty, but it kept me sane to be able to track trends, see what was happening at the different centres, etc etc

Your timeline is your friend. According to your timeline, you should see something around Feb 4th. Remember this is just a guideline based on previous approval rates, but it should give you an idea. If you still haven't heard anything by the end of Feb, you'll probably want to start pestering USCIS.
