So, you are the only Americans in the Americas, what is the problem letting other peoples from the Americas who aren't Americans in to your country?

you won't find anyone here on VJ that has a problem w/ letting others from anywhere into this country, when they do it LEGALLY. its the people that sneak across the border & suck off the social service progams set up for Americans and LEGAL immigrants, while claiming to be victims. i & many other have a problem with.

Yet, Charles needs to travel a little more in the Americas as I have to answer his own trip around the hemisphere.

i'm been to about 18 countries, lived for 13 years overseas and not in the mood to travel to every banana republic in central and south america just to see you proven wrong.

there is no other country that includes "america" in its title.

You are right about the title. Yet again, what wrong are you so interested in proving me?

I argue right to call based on geography and the silliness of assuming "we" are the only ones with a right to do so just based on our name as a country. In fact, the correct title would have to be something more like "fromamericans" or "ofamericans" to clearly state that its the United States of America and not imply United States = America- which is what those "little minds" bickering over little things like what's in a name. Or its evolution thereof.

People should be accommodated and listened to if they have an opinion about this as again, geography and political/cultural context are different things and need to be separated and understood before jumping any gun to conclude and assume.

Edited to add: banana republic hmmm? Then you wonder why the boasted American term can offend so many out there?

in essence, you can't provide an answer regarding the names of countries. who gives a hoot what freaking continent something is on?

if someone is offended by my term of banana republic, oh well. spare me the pc outrage.

LOL... chill Charles... Don't offend others when they haven't offended you.

When the continent's name is more inclusionary as to naming oneself- South America vs. United States OF America, then its at worst an equal playing field. Again, my argument is quite specific and clear.

I thought I stated there is no answer to satisfy your question. And in essence I told you so.

A hoot is given when arrogance comes into play.

not worked up so nothing to chill over.

however, if you want to further research that idea of yours, try this: have your wife cross into mexico and then back. when she comes back into the country, have her declare she's american. see what happens ;)

Declare to whom?

The border patrol agent or the USCIS passport agent that failed Geography 101? Or, maybe when they ask her what country are you from she can say the... truth, yes? :P And for that she has AP which seems to negate your attempt at comedy. Like I also imply, its a matter of attitude, and having 5 family members working in USCIS, they share the same attitude that typically ignores the rest of the American geography, vis-a-vis, the rest of the American continents.

That research suggestion seems to have come out of "Born in East L.A."

But, since you want to speculate, I just called my uncle at USCIS and he told me most border passport agents aren't really in the caring business as to what an immigrant to the United States with valid papers says he/she is from. An American told me that. ;)

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

declare to the border agent of course. is that too difficult for you to understand? and there's no need to insinuate that border patrol officers are dumb. just have her tell them she's american ;)

maybe you should you ask your uncle what happens to people who declare at a poe they are an american when they are not

Again, you're experiment is not well though out.

You can, as always, clarify to the agent that you're American by geography, x country of origin in South America. They can't disagree with that, can they? No, they can't detain you into Secondary for being a South American.

I insinuate that X Border Patrol Agent is dumb just like I insinuate that the majority of Americans are ignorant when it comes to geography. Google it if you want. As a matter of fact, I dare you to survey people on the street, since you want to challenge me to an experiment in stupidity, to assess the geographical capability of 100 Americans. Make it easy- ask them to label the United States of America on an unmarked map. Good luck.

Hint: here's Google hit#1- http://www.nationalgeographic.com/roper2006/findings.html

Search string: "geographical knowledge of Americans"

*Disclaimer*

I do not insinuate that Border Patrol Agents are morons. There is always the possibility, though, that the one that a non-USC may get in line when going through Passport Control as a US Resident/US Citizen can be just as ignorant as the average citizen on the street in Downtown USA.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
