Hey guys, i asked this before and never received a definite answer. Yes, Im still doing the i-129f. Ive had about zero free time in the last month and mainly asked questions on here to gain knowledge in the mean time. My fiancees given name on her passport is jenifer mariano de. Her last name is listed on a different space. the De in her name means "Of" really. Its to say shes of that family. so would her middle name be Mariano De? Or should I drop the De all together. I think its important that it matches the passport which has all 3 names as her given name but it makes for an odd middle name.

I know, I know.. im taking alot of time with this, but I'm not sending it in til July anyways, right after she gets here for her visit.

I think the 'de' would go with her last name, have you asked her? If the "De" is included on her passport, and other ID, then definitely put it in there.

I agree with Stina.

I also had a name-related question and called NVC last week. They told me to use the exact name that appears on my passport.

The "de" would be part of her surname just like the French du in du Pont or du Toit. Looks like somebody incorrectly attached the "de" to her middle name when they processed her pasport. What does it say on her birth certificate?

I havent asked her what it says on her birth certificate, she cant find her original and would need to order a copy. This seems tricky now. Should I match her passport and have De as part of her given name? or use it as part of the surname even though someone entered it on the wrong line on her passport? Ive seen other papers with just her first and last name which didnt include the "De"

I dont know if I should neglect it since its on her passport as part of her given name..Thanks for your advice guys!

I would definitely include it if it's on her passport, but I would ask her afterward what her middle name is to avoid confusion down the line!

I totally agree with you all.

My great-grandad's original surname was Di Mano, which means "of hands" ...as he came from a long line of builders. When he came here, he was adopted-hence a name change-but, is listed as his original surname in his papers when he arrived at Ellis Island back in the days when it the worst of it was a simple de-lousing, a short quarantine, and a brand new life in a matter of days...
