it says i need to provide a copy of ALL pages of my passport issued with a validity of at least 5 years...so does that mean if my passport expires in july of 2009 it's no good?

No, you should be fine as long as the Passport hasn't expired. Another way to prove your citizenship is to provide a copy of the Birth certificate if borned in the US or a copy of the US Citizen's naturalization certificate.

Standard US passports are issued with a validity of 10 years, if you a minor (15 or under) they are issued with a validity of 5 years.

Your question is vague, and I was unsure of what form you were referring to, after looking at other posts/questions from your member profile it seems you are filling out the I-129f?

While you may send a complete copy of you passport to fulfill the requirement of the I-129F, you also have the option of sending a copy of your birth certificate (front and back). I sent both; the copy of my B.C. to fulfill the I 129-F requirement and a full copy of my passport as "evidence of our having met in person".

There are so many members here all at different stages of different immigration processes, by being more specific with the title of your post and your question you will get more responses and new members that have the same question are more likely to find the answer as well.

sorry i wasn't more specific...i AM filling out a I-129F and the copy of my passport i was talking about was for both proof that i've gone to visit her recently as well as to prove that i'm a us citizen...my passport was issued in 1999 and expires in 2009...so it should be ok right?

So yours expires in 2009, no good.

You need to get a new one or you could use a copy of your birth certificate to show citizenship.

The passport in question is just fine.

His passport was issued with a validity of 10 years, just like yours was. He doesn't need at least 5 years of remaining validity. Childrens' passports are issued for less time than adults.

No worries. Pushbrk's got it right; since yours was issued with a validity of ten years (since it was issued), you're good to go!

Ok then the directions are completely misleading. Why would they even mention the 5 year validity since Children can't file for visas? It makes no sense.
