Hi all.. figure there is enough people here that have more than enough computer knowlege... so .. here I sit.. in need...

MY DELEMA...

My father is a Military Historian.. has a rather extensive book list... the #1 book on his list ... is/was basically obsolete. I did many searches.. etc.. ended up finding a link to the co-author...

Long story short.. there was only 250 books printed...

The Co-Author.. age 77... said that he was not sure if he still had the info.. but.. if he could find the disc he would be happy to send me the book via cd. I asked for permission to print it.. he was honored..

This past week I got the cd.. and actually found a website that will print a book no minimum.. www.lulu.com for a book to be hardbound.. and about 350 pages would only cost me about $30.

SOooooo I searched.. and started at the site.. but.. I get a error.. .. the file i am transfering is in PDF format.. actually the book was finished in 2001.. or so .. so one . PDF/ acrobat.. is lower version than what is used now.. I think it was saved on Acrobat4.x? or so...

the error I get is.. that the fonts need to be embedded fonts.. .. also that the file is secure..

Is there any way around this?

The Co-author gave me permission to print.. and was happy to help...

But .. I dont know how to get these fonts converted.. or... transfered.. or stored as a unlocked file..

If anyone knows pdf converters.. can you help explain ..

or..

Does anyone know of any Printing company that will print a book off a cd.. and bind it..

I really dont want to go to kinkos.. and do a cheezy spiral bound thingy..

thanks..

Font embedding has been a feature of Microsoft applications such as Word and PowerPoint® for several years. It allows the fonts used in the creation of a document to travel with that document, ensuring that a user sees documents exactly as the designer intended them to be seen. Font embedding technology is built into Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 4 and above) bringing embedded fonts to the Web.

....

I would recommend that you make sure you've got the font it is looking for. Find out the name of the font and then do a search for that font that you can add to your Windows font directory.

So the fonts referenced internally by the PDF are currently in the PDF, or not in the PDF? If the latter, they are on your computer? Do you know which fonts?

I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.0 and would be happy to try and accomplish whatever you would like. PM me and I'll provide my email (or you can email me from the link on my web site referenced from my profile).

Thanks for the words..

the document is in PDF format..

I have found a site.. LULU that will print a book ... one if that is all you want.. but.. when i got to transfer the file.. the site tells me it needs embedded fonts..

The file is a pdf of a military history title: Submarine or Phantom Target ... in reference to the USS Renshaw.. target hit of 1951... .

Rather interesting piece of history if i do say so myself.. .. best part is the co-author.. not only gave me the copy of the book.. he also added about 5 other articles concerning the research post book print.. .. also some document/photos that a Korean Officer found while researching the same information.

KGSodie.. will indeed like to accept the assistance.. will pm you.. I have no problem sending you the files via email.. who knows.. maybe you can figure this out.... im stumped.. augh..

THANKS
