Others are right, you need the proof of relationship when filing for AOS becasue you need to send the I-130 too; sorry I am not too familiar with other types of visas. (At least I got a dialog going!)

Since your visa is valid till mid-2008, you do have time to get married once he returns from abroad. Otherwise, immediately after the marriage in December (he will need at least a couple of weeks before leaving), you can quickly get both of your names on a few things. It is not so hard, usually all it takes is a short visit to the bank, or a request at work to put the other person as beneficiary on life insurance, or a call to the utilities company to add a name to the bills, and addling a name on a credit card can be done instantly online. Also you can get friends to write the sworn affidavit, that's what we did.

You can get ahead of the game now by starting to read the Guides, gather up all applications and fill up what you can, it can take a lot of time to organize everything so get started NOW if you plan to file right after marriage!

My finance is US citizen. We are planning to marry soon during Xmas. But he has to return to work in another country for a few months after the marriage. So, should we file the GC application right after marriage or wait until we can live together after he finishes his work there.

thanks!

Sooner you file after marriage the sooner you will get the green card. Good luck.

Thank you all for your replies. But I wonder if he, a USC, is qualified as my sponsor because he is now working as a research in Switzerland for a year???
