Requesting an Expedite of AP

Hi All,

My husband and I are hoping to travel to Australia in April to attend his niece's christening (we are going to be the Godparents).. His sister had her baby after he arrived in the US and he hasn't even seen her yet (other than pictures). So we applied for AP in our original packet but had a few delays and now I don't think that the regular approval will come in time for us to make the Christening.

In search of answers (or misinformation!), I called the Customer Service line to find out if there was anything I could do. The lady I spoke with said "SURE! You can file for a humanitarian request to have them expedite the AP". I then wrote a letter and overnighted it to them and now I'm waiting for any kind of answer, or even a "touch".

My question is:

Has anyone here done this sort of thing before? If so, have you had any luck with it? We're really hoping to see the AP soon so that we can book the tickets well in advance, as tickets to Australia are not cheap.

Looking forward to your responses,

Melissa

Most emergency AP's have been for TRUE family emergencies like death or impending death.

You can try for an Infopass Appt but I truly believe that this form of request will not be expedited.

Good luck!

We went to our local office a few days ago (InfoPass appt) to try to get them to expedite ours (our reasoning was based financial commitments). The officer called the NBC and requested them to expedite it and to our surprise they (apparently) did. We did not however receive any thing on paper that substantiates this. It was touched the next day. I am planning on waiting a couple of weeks and if we do not hear anything, visiting our local office again.
