Both Parents names on birth certificate?

I read elsewhere on this forum that basically your application won't get looked at unless both parents names are on your birth certificate.

Normally I wouldn't think this would be a big deal but the more stories I read the more ridiculous the whole visa process seems to get and applications get returned for the smallest of reasons.

My situation is that my birth certificate only shows my mom's name as my real dad buggered off before I was born - I've never met him so he wouldn't be able to vouch for me and state he is my biological father.

My mother is no longer alive so should they need to speak with her, that wouldn't be possible.

This isn't really a major issue is it? I mean surely plenty of people only have one parent named on their birth certificates.

I don't like to panic unless I have to - so do I panic now or later?

I believe the requirement is only that you submit your long form birth certificate. People often mention both parents being listed as a way of distinguishing between the long form and the short form types of certificates. As long as it is your official long form birth certificate, I really don't think it matters that only one parent is listed. As you said, there are probably plenty of other people with only one parent listed for various reasons.

Seems to be a lot of birth cert. questions today. A page on the NVC site says you need both parents names but if you don't have it there's not much you cn do.

My problem is my mothers married name is entered where her maiden name should be. Does anyone think this is a problem before I start the long and expensive correction process. I have to send back the cert. copy of my birth. cert. they sent me and my short form one so I'll be left with no birth cert. for about 8 wks.

Do you think the embassy would accept a copy of her birth cert and my parents marriage cert?

To the OP -- my husbands BC does not have a dad listed for the exact same reason you don't have one. We don't even know what his name is to get it corrected if we wanted. Anyhow, I now have my GC and everything worked out for us. He was the USC but I don't think it should matter that much.
