While I was walking back from the soda fountain, this little girl of about 4 embraced me, her arms reaching out to my legs. Jinky and I both looked at each other and laughed out of surprise. Jinky then overheard her parents speaking in Tagalog and introduced herself. It turns out that she was born at 24 weeks old, I think the father said she only weighed a pound. After 3 months in the hospital she finally came home, but she is now legally blind and now 4 years old. The little girl reached out to touch Jinky as she asked Jinky her name. I had a hard time swallowing my food after that. In a world where children are told to be cautious with strangers, her way of 'seeing' somebody is to touch them. She touched me in the heart for sure.

Teaches you about innocence and just being, eh? Thanks for the reminder Steve - of my/our health. Sometimes we take it for granted
